Title: BRAD'S SETTLING OF AMERICA SERIES 4: Dubon
Post by: brads3 on July 06, 2020, 07:56:21 AM
mod adjustments-added DS thompson traders, enabled KID's gothic fantasy for the candle shop.removed KID's ghost town mods and the RK training camp deco mod.was necessary to have enough memory to run the game without too much slowdown.

Dubon,473516420, lush green lakes, very large map, fair, medium start,no disasters   turnips and peach seed

the 17 bannies have traveled  inland to a Great Lake. across the main river is Canada.with this being a very large map, there is still plenty of room to build.

Goal- build the DS Thompson trade posts along the south shore. we'll build a city with the DS TP's.we'll supply the trade posts with CC marble and jade and  wine.

we planted the turnips and peaches.6 Plymouth houses and  a fish pier were constructed. we set up a RH blacksmith, workshop tailor, and mini wood cutter. then the bannies decided to setup their own town center with some EB picnic tables and benches.a welcome sign will bring nomads.

YEAR 2 and 3

a lighthouse townhall will help bring merchant boats to the small trade post.we'll need this to trade for seeds, livestock, and some supplies to build the DS traders later. storage barns on both sides of the village will help store goods faster.we planted a 2nd peach orchard.

in year 3,a small pasture is cleared as a holding pen for any livestock.the White Swan tavern will make peach cider.a small playground behind it keeps the children from waundering off.

a couple with 2 children came into town. they trap in a pine forest near the main river.they'll give us pelts and furs in exchange for food and tools. we'll trade the pelts and make fur coats.

YEAR 4 and 5

4 workers and a child arrived in spring.they dig the marble quarry that will provide our main trade good.now we can stock the trading post. we take time to gather materials, firewood, and food.

we clear 2 more crop fields and add a new barn.

YEAR 6 and 7

the bannies plant flowers, clear debris from the center of town, add more storage and built a gothic farm house.

in late spring of year 7, 7 nomads arrived. 2 couples with 3 children.the have goats with them and asked to build a farm next to the holding pen in exchange for them giving us some grain and milk.

YEAR 8 and 9

the villagers built a school. and playground.

9 nomads arrived after a late snow storm.they had spotted our lighthouse. the 6 adults and 3 children were cold and hungry.they tell us that the lake connects to other lakes and goes on for many many miles.the claim is a there is a town on the other side in Canada with a huge fort.we can not see across the lake,so there is no way to know for sure.

we laughed at what they told us but these bannies claim they are boat builders.their plan is to build a boat shop and make and repair boats. they say in time many ships will travel to different towns along the lakes. by then, their plan is to supply cannons for military ships.1st these bannies were lost in a storm,2nd we have seen few trade merchants come by.the ship builders say they will compensate us and their plan will bring more merchants with more goods.

to boat builders need iron. their 1st step was to dig a multi-mine. that was fun to terraform in beside the marble quarry.they send 2 workers to the mine. it will bring iron and coal for their project. they next build a RK blacksmith to smelt iron ore.  the boat shop office dock and houses were completed. they managed to build 1 wooden boat.

YEAR 10 REVIEW

population 63 in 16 houses. the town by the lake grew quickly.we have the trade post stocked with marble. a pine forest supplies logs and furs. keeping with the lake theme, we have a lighthouse townhall and a boat shop is being built.goat farmers give us corn and milk.the start village grew enough to need a school.

over the next 10 years, we want to work to the east.there is a hill half way to the border. hopefully we can build to it. we need to trade for seeds and livestock. we also need more textiles for clothing. the nomad families have their own plans. as they multiply and their children grow up, each area will expand. the pine forest has their own ideas, the goats will breed, and the boat builders have their own high hopes.

we plan to have nomads arrive every 3 years or so. that works out good for the bannies to restock supplies.i did have to use the Debug mod to add 3 bridges for the nomad groups.

YEAR 10

a merchant brought us 5 red dairy cows. a pasture is cleared and fenced at the edge of the pine forest.this way the animals can drink water from the lake.the boat builders got the boat shop constructed. they can build boats under the cover and use logs to roll them into the lake. with the shop built and the ground sloped for the boats, their builder goes to help at the mine. until they get orders to repair or build new boats, several of them will help as laborers.they also provide iron that we can use in construction.

now i will explain how the boat shop functions. yes, it is a train.coal is exchanged for coins.half the coins will purchase food, supplies, or materials and half will go to the trade post. as the town grows and more baots arrive, the boat builders can expand. for now they do produce some  iron and stone.

YEAR 11 and 12

6 new settlers arrive just before summer.2 couples,a teen, and a child.they have been waundering the forests hunting and trapping. after a run in with a mountain lion, the women and the teenage daughter have had enuf of adventures. the women refuse to leave town . the 2 men had been hoping to find a place to trade the furs and leather. after much discussion, the women agree to let the men continue to hunt and trap. the women will stay near town and tan the hides and cut up the game.they will manage an outpost for trappers and hunters.

the pine foresters planted enough trees.they built a harvester cache and a larger storage shed. while they work, they train their daughter who will help them expand in about 3 years.until then the cache will work to gather food and stockpile some materials.

YEAR 13

the boat builders had their 1st customer. a merchant boat was damaged in a storm. they repaired and repainted it.this brought 600 coins. 300 will go to a newly built farm trade post.the other 300 coins purchased steel tools for the mine and quarry workers.so the merchant paid 300 coins and gave the builders 15 tools.

to acquire seed and livestock faster, RED's farm trade post was built. with so many mods and items, the odds of a merchant bringing seeds or livestock is quite low. they also will bring tropical seed and trade animals. the farm trade post will improve our odds.

YEAR 14 and 15

15 new setters arrive from Clermott. they have traveled a long ways. by ship from Europe across the ocean to the Landing Fort.by another boat up river to Elnor, and then by train to Clermott. they paid a merchant to bring them here.  they passed many towns and villages along their journey.

they are 4 couples with 2 children and 5 young teen workers. the teens are eager to mine iron ore and dig jade from the hill to the east. a doctor and his wife will build a hospital and grow herbs.1 family has chickens that they will tend.the jade will be traded for seeds and livestock.
one of the men will supervise the teens at the mine. his wife didn't think the teens not having an education was a good idea. she will school them at night to read and write. the 4th couple built a sawmill to provide lumber for a market.

we have traded for more chickens and bean, rasberry and potatoe seeds.

YEAR 16

a central market was built.this will keep all our goods organized in 1 place. a newly wed couple from the village move nearby and keep it stocked.the boat builders repaired another boat. the coins were spent to buy grape seeds. the pine foresters spoke with the boat builders. boats need rope and plenty of them.flax will be spun into twine. the general trade post will keep  a supply of twine ropes for the merchants. a 20x20 pasture was fenced to give the dairy cows more room. chickens are moved from the holding pen to the north pasture.

YEAR 17 and 18

a group of 5 bannies came to the outpost to trade furs and pelts. the wife was happy to have found a town.she decided to stay and build an inn near our market.her duaghter and her will run it and grow potatoes.the 2 men,her husband and brother, will travel to hunt and trap.she is excited as her son will be able to play with other children and get an education here.

the following year in late summer, 6 settlers arrived. 5 workers and a 2 yr old child.  they take over at the dairy pasture and expanded our farms.

YEAR 19

the goats have breed. the goat farmers built their son a house. the boat builders did another repair which brought in more coins and steel tools.they finished building a merchant boat to sell. they need turpentine and called on the forest workers again. a charcoal kiln and turpentine still will process pine boughs and resin into the turpentine.

we  traded jade and marble for 6 pigs.

Nice story and build Brads3. Very much enjoying it!
A fair warning though, that charcoal kiln has two work positions and that tree is or very close to it.
you'll need to put down a road or grass path around the charcoal kiln to mitigate a CTD.

Cheers.

the pine mod was handy to help the boatbuilders with turpentine and ropes. that charcoal might be needed to make the items for the DS trade posts hoping we can trade for some of the items before we get way over the stream. the kiln hasn't seen a problem yet.maybe they cut the tree.

YEAR 20 REVIEW

population doubled to 137 in 36 houses. we worked our way east. the jade quarry supplies the new farm trade post. the hunter's outpost brings in leather and furs. hunters and trappers stay at the inn when they come to town.a group of settlers from the Landing Fort   improved our city services. a hospital, market, and a 2nd school were constructed. the pine forest supplies twine ropes and turpentine for the boat builders.they also supply logs for the sawmill.we now have chickens, red cows, and pigs. our trade posts have brought in bean, potato, rasberry, and grape seeds.

over the next 10 years, i want to expand into the valley beyond the mine hill. the bannies can start planting the grapes for the wineries. we will need another forest and more farms.we still needd a grain seed.

YEAR 20 and 21

17 new settlers arrived in late spring.6 couples,a 10 year old,and 4 young children. 1 couple will help the foresters cut logs and make tools for the jade quarry workers.another  decides to fish the lake on the other side of the pine forest. a 3rd family moves south to fence a pasture for the pigs.

as always we have extra items and needed to move goods faster, the trade post expanded to include a RK stone dock TP.the hope is merchants will bring Ds goods to build the city later.

in our 21st year, 2 more couples of the settlers work to dig a stone quarry. they also work to collect beeswax to make candles with.

we traded for 4 bison, root, and veggy seeds. a deal was made with the boat builders. the RK blacksmith makes steel tools and 2 workers are sent to the multi-mine.

we need a 25x20 pasture for the bison. a KID forester and gathering hut are planned between the livestock farms and the wine valley. while we have time, several of the villagers use it to build houses for the graduates.the boat builders have had requests for fish nets. the only official boat shop known to Banished was constructed, the Sherbrooke boat shop.

we have 50 houses.there are 10 laborers supplying 2 builders.

YEAR 24 to 26

it was late summer, when Deon and DEll arrived with their daughter Benity and her 2 children.they work to clear land and build in the wine valley. they will soon have honey from all the bees that pollinate the grapes.

the boat builders took time to cut 147 logs for us to make up for those they used to make boats. a merchant finally brought oat seed. the goat farmers plant 2 fields. several other fields were switched to oats as well.

Deon's cousins arrive in year 26  to build the Autumn Leaves taverrn. this will make the grape wine.the 4 will help clear the land for more grape orchards.the Autumn Leaves makes ale from apples but it matches with the houses too well not to use it.

YEAR 27 to 29

a market will move supplies for the wine valley. the KIDS forest exended south. a hunter works  between the 2.

a merchant brought a group of 5 bannies to town. they were waundering lost along the river.  1 couple established a kitchen near the main market. they make flour and nut bread. the others headed to help the boat builders. they've been busier lately repairing boats. a DS coal bell pit will inrease the coal outputs that is traded for food.

we moved the pigs to a larger pasture near the stream.the pigs will be much happier with the cool mud to roll in.the goat farmers cleared a pasture to fence the goats. the wine brewers planted a garden and added their 2nd beekeeper to pollinate more grape ochards. they have built our 3rd school.

YEAR 30 REVIEW

population again doubled to 290. half adult workers and 10% students. there are 63 houses plus the inn.  KID foresters work the south side of the mine hill.a mini forester works with the pine forest to our north. the wine valley is busy planting grape orchards.  we expanded the trade posts. the lake provides plenty of fish. more merchant and fishermen have stopped at the boat shop for fish nets, ropes, or repairs. the goats multiplied. the trade posts brought in the grain seed we needed. we have added root, cucumber, veggy, tomato, and strawberry seeds.we also traded for bison and goats. the merchants have brought some of the building materials for the DS trade posts that will be needed.

the start town has 2 markets,3 schools,a huge trade district,1 hospital with a cemetary and herb grower.there's a hunters outpost, inn, and post office. counting the winery, there are 2 taverns.we have 2 forest areas and several mines and quarries. they do have a butcher and bakery.

the trade district has been busy. i think it is working well. RED's farm trade post has helped us acquire many seeds and livestock. we have traded huge amounts of marble, that is overpowered, and some jade.  we have fish nets, twine<ropes>,and turtpentine from the pine mod. since the boat shop won't move these, the trade posts have to sell them. the boat shop does exchange coal for coins. some of the coins are stocked at the trade posts and some is traded by the wharehouse factory<RED's train engine> for cherries. a KID's train car sells more coal for walnuts.it is a roundabout way of working. it is neat way of using the different mods. the shop fits well with the lake theme.1 advantage to the train mods are they don't need mico-managed. other than switching the input of RED's engine to bring in firewood or logs, the boat shop functions on its own.

next 10 year goals- as the bannies multiply, they will add to the areas around the start town. we need to cross the stream and start work on the city. the plan is to use RED's colorful houses. some do need glass which we don't have yet. the veggy and strawberries will be planted along the south map edge.north of the fields,we do want some food processors and then the DS trade posts along the lake shore.beyond that the plan is quite flexible. i do think we will need some factories and wharehouses to store and move supplies. it is a huge area. we'll get across the stream and see how it goes.

YEAR 30 to 32

step 1 to crossing the stream. we moved builders and laborers south, extended the road, and built a DS stone bridge. then we started a work pile near the bridge. rough measurements-we have 20 spaces for the trade district,40 for a city and 20 for farms along the southern border.

step 3 is to lay a road to connect the south bridge with a nomad crossing. west of this is where the city will go. while the road was being cleared, a couple moved near the nomad bridge to fish.

a group of 10 arrive.4 couples with 2 children. they will plow fields along the stream and start clearing land for the city.  work is slow with the distance ,but we make progress. the road between the bridges is started. the south road has been started also.

the country farmers added food pantries for storage.they set up a sorting shed for the veggy's and 2 farmyards for firewood.they continued clearing land south for a pasture. while the pasture was being cleared, the bannies decided on the Sherbrooke school to keep the farm children educated.

by now there have been more graduates. the village needed more housing.there were a lot of 16 year old newly weds.the wine valley built the EB winery to process the grapes. they continue to expand the orchards northward.it may look strange, but the CC orchard forest will plant the grapes more efficiently than clearing  fields.

while the villagers were busy,10 settlers arrived. 3 couples ,a young worker, and 3 children. they head south to stretch the country farms to the west. both the marble and jade quarries had to be improved. the country farms added a blacksmith and more storage. they have kept busy widening roads and cutting trees.

the country farmers traded for black and white dairy cows for their pasture.once more the inn is empty.

YEAR 36 and 37

The south forest workers have complained bout the walk to school. a colonial school is built for them and the livestock farmers.the miners expanded and dug another mine for iron and coal. the wine valley dug a well to water the orchards from.

the start village has outgrown itself. there isn't much space left for housing. the farm trade post has taken in many seeds and livestock.it will be upgraded to a normal trade post.this will improve our trading and increase the storage.

the country farmers have continued clearing land.finally they have worked their way west to the edge of where the city will be built. the road north to the nomad crossing has been layed out and cleared. there is a lot of land between the stream and the city zone. this large area will probably be left to forest to provide logs and firewood. it does form a nice break between the 2 towns. the  huge maps do give enough land to build counties more than just 1 town.

YEAR 38 and 39

i try to build in a way that makes sence to the bannies. as each area grows the population, that area expands. this has worked, but will get tighter as there is less space to the start village. the foresters are crowded and do need more houses. they will expand across the stream. due to the flow of the stream, mini foresters with KID's gatherer and hunter are used. we needed the smaller radius for the foresters.

10 settlers arrive. 7 workers and 3 children. they continue the expansion of farms along the south city road. they doubled the size of the school. 1 young bannie decided to build a lighthouse along the lake shore.once the inn was emptied, the mini foresters completed their houses.

population growth has slowed. we are at 448 citizens,98 students, in 99 houses and the inn. the country farmers to the far south has been settled by 3 groups of 10 nomads.the road extends north to the nomad crossing where a lighthouse has been built. they have a double Sherbooke school and blacksmith. the farm trade post was upgraded to a general.the wine valley expanded north and built the EB winery and picnic area. both marble and jade quarries were dug deeper and a KID tiny mine was added. the foresters worked across the river to give a break between the 2 towns.

the start village is about out of space. we also stuggle to keep up on firewood.the forest expansion should solve that soon.we need 6 houses for newlyweds at the start village.

goal for the next deacde- expand the country farms half way across the southern edge of the city.then work north and establish a market and wharehouse district. the city houses will need glass. we'll need a sand pit and glass factory.

the country farms fenced a 2nd pasture for pigs.the villagers have already been breeding them. to supply firewood there a wood cutter will work near the mini forests. a chop chop is set near the start village market.the wine valley built a DS fuel market to help store  their firewood.
tool and clothing limits are increased to 1000. workers are doubled and more houses have been built.

YEAR 41 and 42

we have 2 issues. 1 is the start village needs more storage space.a lot of it is taken up by the heavy marble and extra food. the bannies have used crates and barrels to increase space of some workplaces and barns. that is not enough thou.a DS veggy barn near the central market will have to be built.once goods start moving to the city, the start village won't have this issue.

the 2nd issue is the edge mountains have pushed the south road farther north than intended.the country farms already expanded a quarter of the way acrossed.a road will go north half way north toward the lake, then west..that will leave about 20 squares for the trade district along the lake shore. this will give the city 80 wide by 60 north not counting the farms.plenty of room to work with.

while the builders were busy with the roads,12 new settlers arrived.3 couples,3 young workers, and 3 children. they build along the nomad road and will start making glass. along with the RK glass factory they build a EB stone quarry. the stone will be used to upgrade to city roads.since the factory only allows for 1 worker, we did double the size. that will help speed the glass making up.

the bannies have 2 issues that slow work for the year.  an outbreak of chicken pox and the coal bell pit needed dug deeper.the outbreak quickly spread thru all areas.the 1 doctor and herb grower did their best but we lost 4 bannies to the disease.this is where the mod order has a disadvantage. even thou the health shows full hearts, the bannies can have hidden problems.i am sure the lack of firewood added to the sickness.

YEAR 43

the boat builders added a blacksmith to make cannons.those are needed for military ships. the miners dug thru the mountain to access the wine valley. the wine valley built a 2nd EB winery to process more grapes. since they had the extra space the country farmers fenced another large pasture for more dairy cows. the goat farmers took over the holding pen.

YEAR 44 and 45

by  now, our population is growing fast enuf i doubt we can take any more nomads. we made several adjustments to the trade posts to move more goods faster.the foresters built a small market near the stream.the builders have kept busy with more roads and the laborers with clearing land and trees.

the wine valley continued planting grapes. they added more gardens. along the river to the north, land was left to forests. the city built more houses and began work on food processors.

YEAR 48 and 49

near the Colonial meeting hall, a large school and hospital with a cemetary are needed. the butcher shop needed pens to hold animals to be butchered. the city of course wanted it away from the houses. it is conveniently located. with all the milk,a RK dairy was built to make butter.

the wine valley added 2 hothouses and a field of beans. a market will help keep the northern workers supplied.

YEAR 50 REVIEW

population to 684,in 148 houses. only 1 group of 12 settlers arrived.we have no time or room to take more. the city is growing steadily. we have a glass factory and markets are storing materials for the future DS trade posts.a townhall, hospital, and large school are established in the town center. a food processing zone cuts meat, makes butter  and bread.the upgraded city road and coloful houses do bring the city to life.

our start villagers did add some houses and storage.the boat builders are making cannons when they have time. they keep busy with the repairs of fishing and merchant boats.even the wine valley is full. they have planted grapes for 2 wineries plus the Autumn Leaves tavern.there is land south of the valley that remains unzoned.

next goals- we will start building the DS trade posts. we did trade for some of the building materials needed.the city is already making glassware to trade. they will need to decide what goods to trade with those. the eastern half of the city is producing enuf food to support more houses and workers.they have plenty of land to keep them busy. i'd like to fillin a lot of this half of the city before starting the western half.

DUBON END

WE have come a long ways since the 1st bannies settled on the edge of the Great Lake.the start village still trades marble and jade. the boat builders are busy selling ropes, turpentine, and fish nets.they repair and build fishing boats and supply ships.  to the east , grape wineries fill the valley. trappers and hunters frequent the town's inn.
the main trade city has 2 lighthouses to guide ships for the DS THOMPSON trade post docks. the bannies have a beach and many parks to hang out at.there are several taverns and shops to visit. the city has 4 lodge houses for travelers. you can stop at the ag district for feed or to trade livestock.no need to worry bout getting your boots muddy with the upgraded city roads.

population 1250,651 adults and 206 in schools.we have 278 houses including the boardinghouses and inn. the bannies have outgrown the map by about 50 couples.

the mods work well together. i don't remember any issues. KID's education patch helps keep the farming and hunting outputs consistant. the DS THOMPSON traders mod has a variety of dock pieces and decorations with it. they work well, bringing in a lot of boat traffic. i do prefer an AG TP that combines the seeds and livestock instead of needing 2 TP's for them.in the beginning of maps when you are trying to acquire these, it is easier to stock 1 TP instead of 2. thankfully RED has an AG TP in the RKEC mod and it doesn't require lumber. i do wish  a modder would expand on KID's concept with houses as shops. he started that with the wild west mods, using shops,a post office, and undertaker as housing. i cheated and used NECORA's Sherbrooke houses for shops. for city maps,it would be handy to have more options.
