I am looking forward to looking at everyone's entries but will wait until after I complete the challenge. I don't want to inadvertently borrow ideas from anyone else! I am still about half way through and trying to decide if I want to start over or push forward with the original. I originally forgot it was until year 50 so did not use my time all that well.  :-[   ::)

RedKetchup

yeah @mariesalias  thats what happended to me, time is passing like flies. i made my last zone at year 47-50 so .. population and stability didnt got time to kick in :(

Here's Year 48 in my version of the Valley of Death. Unfortuneately, life is pretty good here and the people are prospering, so only the usual amount of death.

The first pictures are the overview. Picture 1 is the summary info including town hall, map and summary window. As you can see I haven't filled the valley to the extent that some of you have. 302 is the population. It was a bit higher but is starting to drop a bit as we start into the up-down cycle of a stable (no new houses) settlement. I had up to 60 laborers, though some of those went to fruit growing. For trade I'm shifting from firewood to ale, thus the fruit growing.

Up next is the East side of the river, which is the grittier industrial side. This includes the original start location and is the oldest part of the settlement. It is also where the teo trading posts are. We'll call it East River for short.

Third shot is the Northwest section. Originally I had planned to make this another industrial area, but when I decided to refocus trade from firewood to ale, this became the ale producing part of the settlement. The second forest village is to the East and the ale section to the West. We can call that area Bierberg (Beer Mountain).

4th is "downtown." This is the central section of the valley West of the river. It is where the town hall and central section are. You can also see the hospital at the point where the small stream enters the main river. For some weird reason people come from all over town to hang out at the hospital. This area is known as West River (No one said these citizens were creative at naming things).

The last picture in this series is the Southwest. This is where the main cemetery is and where the livestock raising is centered. The second chapel is here. In this map I have not gone for crop diversity, making sure that I had wheat and corn and beans as an early-season crop (for early frosts in Autumn), cabbage as a mid-season crop and squash as a late-season crop (for late frosts in Spring).

The next series are views of the various squares.

Sounds like we need to extend the number of years out to 100 to give everyone time to make their village grow.

Only if you add a longer time to complete  :P

I'm happy where I am now, so I feel no need for another 50 years.

Ok, we will leave things the way they are and try to give more time for future challenges.

Too much talk, too little do.  I only skipped this challenge because I would've walked away with it.  ::) :o ::)

C'mon already, I wanna see what folks have come up with :).  It gives me something to aspire to.

Demonocracy

I've been on the challenge, but I have to admit that I'm doing so with pretty much no goal at all.  It has been fun. : )

Don't sell yourself short.  **Go Bobbi, Go Bobbi, Go Bobbi, Go ...** -- First time Double Champion (of, course, it could get pretty lonely in that forum area by yourself  ::) )

I've completed my first (and possibly only) attempt.  I don't expect to have time for another try at this, so I'll have to submit what I have.

Now, I'm aware that the population is small with only 95 people total, but here's what I hope will set mine apart:

1.  All production numbers are based on the number 6.
2.  All villagers are equipped with warm clothes.
3.  All villagers are equipped with steel tools.
4.  All houses are stone.
5.  All houses are spaced away from one (rather than touching sides).
6.  The letters D V (Death Valley) appear along with the storage cart from the beginning as the centerpiece.

The purpose, at least for me, was not to build the largest, most populated village.  I wanted the village to produce and use only the best of materials and give each villager the best life possible.

I did attempt to focus on the aesthetics, but I do think I missed the mark when comparing my village to some of our talented fellows.

In any case, here are some screenshots.  (I don't know how to upload a save file, so I'll only upload it if I'm part of the winning candidates.)

This is the village center.

Aerial view of the major portion of town.

Town hall numbers showing the map seed as its number basis.  Ultimately, the numbers didn't work out that way for the end result, but that was the goal.

Main district with mostly homes and centerpieces.  Two small graveyards are behind a church bordered by modest farms.

Along the river's edge, production is completed.  Woodcutters, tailor, blacksmith, trade port, and fishermen work here.

I hope you all enjoy!  Thanks, guys.  This was a lot of fun.  : )
