Title: Small Boats for Banished Waters
Post by: Paeng on May 04, 2017, 12:00:44 PM
As we get more and more nice waterfront items, I been looking for boats, just for inspiration...

I packed a small zip (1.4Mb) with some I found -
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4od4urq8g10dl3u/boats.7z?dl=0

Also saw a raft that I'd love to see on my rivers (attached)...  :)

Looks good. Needs F-variant with the canvas roof.

Well yeah - the textures generally need improvement, and it's too dark...  :)

But I love the idea, and it's maybe not too complicated to "re-build" for our talented modders...  ;)

I would love to see a small deco mod for boats and rivercraft :)  Great idea @Paeng :D

Yeah, looks nice. It can be made as storage, it looks like that. And what about boat housing or temporary housing just for one family? I was thinking about that.

Yeah, storage sounds good...

Houseboats - yep, always wanted them, too...   :)

I never build a 3d model boat before (I build wooden model ships though) and after the production Set 2 is finished I have a go at it.

I think the one problem with making boats usable is that it would require them being connected to the shore so that the baniminions can get to them. If not I think it would be like when a piece of dock is finished but not connected to land yet and the builder gets stuck and starves to death.

Naturally...  Functional pieces need to connect to shore (e.g. with a jetty or dock piece), decorative companions should be ghosted...  :)

@Paeng I like the idea of storage and houseboat too, like that picture.  :)

I'm feeling the love and inspiration for watercraft & water living :D
I posted some photos as while back in a thread here & over on BL with some lovely houseboats and paddlesteamers, if the idea was expanded to included houseboats (for housing), and paddlesteamers for food (restaurants most are used as now on the Murray as well as entertainment), then there could be a lot of scope for water craft, that's functional.

I support @tanypredator & @Paeng ideas on this for that reason.  :)

In other news, I check Turbosquid and found only 3 houseboats under $49 :( ; but happily I found my inspiration posts I made months ago :)

Emmylou (https://www.murrayriverpaddlesteamers.com.au/our-fleet/ps-emmylou/) is still one of my most beloved Paddlesteamers, she was where we spent part of our honeymoon, hubby & I.  :)

I checked a number of 3D sites - main problem is that all 99.9% of houseboats I found are motorized, which is not really what we're after (yet  :D )...

* And hey - when the age of steam(punk) comes to Banished, I get first pickings LOL ... j/k

Hahaha :)  You're more than welcome to offer your Steampunk ideas up.
That would be pretty awesome :)

You know, with the new smelters & blacksmith chains, you never know we may get there sooner, rather than later @Paeng ;)  That would be very inventive!  Bannies in Steampunk gear, holy batwings, that would be something to see!

Oh, I've been pining for steam for a couple of years already, not pushing it though  :)

But with all the new developments (choo choo, particle "steam", heavier industrials etc.) that age might come closer... maybe one of the flags left will be turned into a new form of energy  ;)

Would you mind sharing your Pin board @Paeng  ?  If not publicly, but at least privately?
(No offence if you say no), I would love to see some of your style ideas!! :)

I think I'm going to change my own up with a new gaming only one, haha ...  I'm getting a larger collection of gaming ideas pinned more recently than anything else.  At least I've stopped spamming with hair colour, ROFLMAO!

Ohhhhhhh ....  lolololol ....  Damn and there I thought I was going to see a bit of your eclectic soul there @Paeng via Pins :)
That does make more sense, I apologise, I normally skim over some typos, especially in a multination board, so I just "over" read it, rather than took it for what it was.

What a good chuckle ;)

I've been thinking about the idea from @tanypredator and now
when I finished updating other stuff I thought it could be cool
with another 'happy' home.
I have made some simple gangways to reach the boat.
The boat to the left uses @Discrepancy jetties.

oh my gosh, look at those.  :)  Those are absolutely fantastic.   LOL with a few adjustment you could make a wild west wagon train also.  The house boats are great as is.

Added thought, one of those could be a nomad attractor as if they came down the river.  You know, @kid1293 , you have only yourself to blame if you get flood with suggestions and changes.   :)

Maybe one could also be a small market?

Hmmm... maybe grunge them up a bit more? They look so clean and brandnew...  ;)

@kid1293 how very exciting :)  A dream mod of mine to have little riverboats, and thanks to this, woohoo!  Here they come :D
Being that they match with Discrepancy's mod, they will then fit with @Necora Maritime PEI sets as they are the same height, and I use them interchangedly, so that's a plus too :D

I've attached an image of one of my favourite paddlesteamers, and I know 'no new boats', but if there was some way to get her colours as an alternative texture, that would be sweet.
The far right is quite similar, but 'not quite'.  :D

It's been a while since I've been to Emmy, so this is a real treat for me to see these little travellers!!

Favoured colours by boat builders where we go to are in whites, charcoals & greys, as well as the Emmy scheme.

A history of the Pevensy is here:

http://www.echucamoama.com/echuca-moama-paddlesteamers

For some other colour themes :D

ps:  rumour has it that at least one of the PS was a brothel at some stage ...  hahahaha, probably steer clear of red highlights then ;)

@kid1293 another weathered wood thought would be to match plimoth set grey and later when branching out from houseboats it could also be a driftwood collector to use to build those plimoth houses.  :)  Another style houseboat would be more raft like with log base and a flat roof.

edit: maybe add a small wash line to the back of the raft for that lived in look.

Footsteps dressed in red

And the wind whispers Mary

@kid1293 my idea for a steam boat was to do something like Red's choo choo (a companion to it perhaps) but a hostel will be a cool idea for one too.

No, I meant something like this

peddler? you mean use them like DS has his wagon carts? that makes sence. i do wish there was a way to generate seeds by "trading" that way.
could you  do a set that gives different items for various trades. say like it gives fish for feathers or other textiles? or gives feathers and duck meat for cider? different variations for differebt boats?

peddlers? that's why we have river boat merchants and trading posts.  A wagon train or gypsy caravan would make more sense.

But I like the idea of special traders!
Title: Re: Small Boats for Banished Waters

hmm i could tell you how i think it works if it helps? i think it works like a production building but instead of making tools,or wheat flour. it takrd different goods and "makes" or gives out various other iems. it is specific as to this+ this= that out. the indian tradeing post is pricey. the items you get are not cheap.

One of my all time favourite books is George RR Martin's Fevre Dream (http://www.georgerrmartin.com/grrm_book/fevre-dream/) (well before GoT, 14 yrs), and it's so dog eared after all the years of reading, it was a rare Hard cover (rare, because few made it into circulation at the time in Australia, it was well before GoT was ever written), and it talks about the trade on the Mississippi and a few other things, and it paints an amazing imagery of life on the water.
http://www.georgerrmartin.com/grrm_book/fevre-dream/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fevre_Dream
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/382450.Fevre_Dream

But, I also spent a lot of my teen years in Echuca/Moama and the family having a houseboat, the way of the river has always called to me (which is why I have often posted the images I have of the river over the last few months, waiting for magic ;) ), so to see these little Ladies, and the possibility of more to come, well now.  That's just superb!!

A floating hostel is perfect, it's historically accurate, and of course there is the trade boats, the hotels, the pubs, the illegal smugglers and prohibition era goodies, the chapels, the brothels, and of course - the tourist movers.

Anyone that's interested, a beautiful Australian mini series:  All the Rivers Run, show life on the Murray River, and it certainly has a lot of charm.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3L2tT2KJfA / https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikkH4UwYGwM
http://www.crawfords.com.au/libary/series/rivers_run1.shtml / http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086663/ / https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_the_Rivers_Run

Also too, the theme would also suit the Gold Mining / Mining themed sets as well, there's a good cross over there, and for the Wild West theme @kid1293

Flat bottomed barges, the dinghies, the run abouts, the large glorious houseboats, the small little tow boats, taxis etc.
We've barely scratched the surface of what could be done.

Now, if only Luke had unlocked the secret of movement ingame ;)  Watch out horses, wagons & carts, choochooos ... water vessels, it's all there, simmering away.

Ah, nostalgia.  My heart does love the water. ;)
