Title: Plantations
Post by: Nominix on September 30, 2016, 09:03:03 AM
Just working with the mega mod a bit -The Red maple Farm and the Blackwell farm.  Red Maple is primarily a wheat farm with adjoining 11x11 1 person plots, Blackwell is mostly vegetable with adjoining Orchards. The fences are somewhat of a pain till they get the roadbound versions in the mega mod. But I do truly love the mega mod, hopefully they keep adding stuff to it.

Im using the megamod and its under decorations - town decorations - Windmill pump.
There is also a ghosted version which is quite handy.

Very nice  :)

I like to see my fences used. But I understand what @Paeng meant about the brightness of white objects in the game. I will tone down my white horse fences in a future version of DSFences.

They can be a bit bright, however I like the contrast they give. Some of the darker fences tend to get lost in the detail so the white is really nice when you want the fence to stand out. (See Blackwell farm Pic #2 above - Between the two small midevil barns I used a log fence gate - it can be missed quite easily.)

I think the biggest improvement would be a shadow or footprint of the fence as your building them. It does add a lot of time and sometimes frustration when building them and you cant tell where you just placed the last fence and have to go hunting the last piece you placed.

Another item that would be very handy would be 1 tile gates. As Im laying out some of my larger herd farms I could really use a 1 tile gate that works with both horse and log fences. Those would be great as well as a 2 tile gate for horse fences.

Do love your fences though, I dont build farms without them.

The pic below is where it would be handy to have a 1 wide gate. I have run into quite a number of places where a 1 wide would be handy, but this is the most recent one.

Yeah, bright is okay... just not plain white or black, which always look a bit alien in vid games...  :)

Check the menu again - there are two 1x gates (stone- and wood arch)  included (in one of the sub(sub) menus...  ;)
If you use CC, there is also a 1x gate that fits with any set...

In my OP i mention that Im using the megamod so yes CC is in there - at least most of it I think.

The arched 1 tile fence gate I think you are referring to  1. is not the same style as either the log or horse fence 2. only works if you use the center versions. So for me its pretty limited in its useage. That goes for other gates as well as at times I use the inside / edge versions to work around placement issues. Hopefully the road bound versions (from the original mod) will be put in the megamod soon. They do solve a lot of placement issues, for me anyways. I can and do use the 3 wide for one wide placement, here and there, if they fit. Many times they do fit, many times they dont.

The point is, that in each of the fence styles it would be good to have its own 1 and 2 tile gate variants and that the most important issue bar none is a footprint so we can tell that there is something being built there. Would be extremely handy when your building a lot of fences.
One size fits all uni gates are a stop gap.and ultimately will always have placement / style issues.

You are absolutely right :)
For an upcoming release (perhaps not the next one) I will try to give every fence the same options (including edge/center variants).

Just a couple more that are a more compact design. Still 10 fields but a lot less busy and much easier to build en mass. Overall size works with herd pens as well. 5 Pens of just over or around 10x20.

I love this screenshots, such a fabulous idea!

Ques:  What are the buildings in Red Maple Farm (3), I know the 3 story house, I have that in MM (I think), but what is the one (2?) on the left of it?

Great work & many thanks.

They are the midevil largest barn and medevil windmill and the midevil grain silo. All should be in the MM under RedKetchups stuff.
From left to right - Silo - House - Windmill - Largest Barn.  You could also sub the large barn for the midevil granary. I think they are same size but the granary only holds food and has cranes sticking out of the front and back of the upper floor. Now that I think about it, I think the granaries would have done better....I like the cranes :) They add a cool touch of realism.
