Title: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: RedKetchup on March 11, 2019, 07:58:50 AM
Gonna start a new thread now :) since the other one is about RKEC which is officially released in its final Patch 1.3 version :)

I prefer to start also a new thread because i will work on the new folder of RotP 1.0 version. :)
Enjoy RKEC 1.3 for the time RotP will take to be done ^^

today i am continuing to edit my posts and create a Wiki for RKEC 1.3

i started by the Map Generation. i explained and listed everything new when you decide to create a new game and everything the Map Generator will add to your map.

i am now at explaining the toolbars. i started with the vanilla toolbar and what i did and not did in each of the icons of each of the toolbars.

i did the house toolbar, the road toolbar, the storage toolbar, and the services toolbar....
i want to know if you find my text formatting is ok ?

Formatting is great, I like that you're doing everything in an order that matches the toolbar button order. It makes a lot of sense and the information is very useful =) The bold words and spacing helps to make it readable and "parse"-able, in case we're looking for info on just a specific item, it'll be easy to find.

Ok. today and yesterday i took a look to Rise of the Pharaoh.

i know there is something that has been made in one of my folder.... but i decided to start a very new mod folder Rise of the Pharaoh.

i am planning to make it like i did for RKEC, a total submersion into a theme...  Old Egypt. I will replace everything and nothing will survive Rise of the Pharaoh :)
But also, when i will need to go pickup all the models i did.... i will go 1 by 1 as needed and i will evaluate if i keep it as 100% as i did, or i will modify it in hope i will be more satisfied :) so i am deleting nothing made so far. all is at to be evaluate.

So since i am starting from scratch... i decided 2 textures for the moment. 2 terrains.

Desert (of course) with a sand desert texture. This will represent a map made in middle of the desert / oasis
Nile with a nice green grassy texture. This will represent a map made on the shores of the Nile... not quite the delta though since we can only have 1 river....
will be more to come...

the thing about the area the map will try to reproduce, it should not be too much mountains. it is more dunes. sand dunes....
so i played with some numbers... and i lowered the mountains all around the map (and we cant go) so now they look more like dunes with the sand desert texture
and the grassy Nile map i wish they look like hills.

so i disabled everything else to get just the map, clean , with what i am doing.
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: RedKetchup on March 18, 2019, 10:31:42 PM
as you could see in last screenshot from previous post.... then i started to make things spawn.

i have to decide what will spawn on the map at the generator of maps. I kept the RKEC copper, kept the silver and gold ore of RKEC. and then i decided what else.

Since we will try to reproduce the old pharaohs times.... they were are bronze age. they never known about iron. So i deleted the iron spawns. there wont be any Iron in RotP :) and then i added Tin veins. we will use copper and tin to make bronze :) As also as you could see, i change the color of the stone texture for a "sand"stone texture. in game we will see "Sandstone".

So I am at : What else i can add ?

I always wished to have marble in RKEC.... so i am trying it. i see marble as building material for some rich noble buildings...

so i guess we will have marble quarries.... but what if i make some ... available ? in the map generator ? Thats part also of my wishes when i wanted it for RKEC ...
And i try to get something nice and different. i wish to get those at edges of the map.

Some game spawn some huge deposites and in order to get the resource, you need to put a mine on top of it. a huge deposite would look much more better ... than little rock "marble" spawns.... but Banished doesnt work like that. So this is why i wish it is side of mountain cliffs or more/less

of course i need a good texture... this one is really too bright lol

of course... the trees are not there yet :)

it can give you a strange feeling when you see those pictures... ^^
.

Trees will come :)
But before i wish to see the other things look without the need to cut a forest to see something LOL

Hello. Since you asked "What can I add". I prefer to play with the full screen showing, no info boxes (General Statistics and Townhall). I play that way because it's more enjoyable to not have the screen blocked, but also as a handicap. I'm trying to play by feel, and not numbers and counts of how much stuff I have. Ideally the game could be played with no info windows. In fact I'd like to see a challenge mode where no info boxes are possibe! This mode would be called Reality.
No info boxes mostly works except I also like to turn my farmers on and off so they can labor during summer since there is no benefit to them farming. (Only use orcharders during harvest, since there is no benefit to them orcharding during the rest of the year, unless trees need planting).
I can guess the season about half the time, but sometimes snow is early or late etc. That matters because crops appear to be planted in Early Spring, whether it's warm or cold, which is typically not the way it happens in reality. In reality, farmers are't going to plant their crops in snow, they'll go as soon or late as they think there won't be another frost, perhaps a certain temperature. I think it would be best if planting actually happened based on weather not season. This would be more realistic.
Assuming weather-based planing is not possible, I would like a map indicator for the season, since it's the one artificial thing you can't tell by looking at the map. Could you make a weathervane or almanac or calendar or something ON THE MAP that shows the season (in particular "early spring") or in other words, when the farmers can begin planting?
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: brads3 on March 20, 2019, 12:30:32 PM
in settings there is a way to turn those boxes off and the icons.so you won't have no help when a building has no materals or workers. check the game otions when you load it up.
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: donwolfkonecny on March 20, 2019, 12:43:35 PM
ooh ouch! Actually I didn't mean those boxes! I'll keep those! lol
That sounds difficult, you would be losing out on production and not know why...I like the idea I think I'll try it
I meant more like, I know some people run their tools on a minimum amount, or other resources, and it's just unrealistic in my opinion to be able to count all those things. I doubt right now my town could "Count" all the food in it. Estimate it sure, and that's what I'm proposing. You can still check the barns or markets and add them up. But you'd be missing out probably on some smaller storage areas.
But if it's all counted up for you, I feel it becomes less a game of "feel" and more a game of numbers/spreadsheets which doesn't interest me as much.

And I as I said, Season when farmers begin planting crops is NOT available from the map, it's only available from the statistics box. Hmm, maybe it could be realistic, like a farmers almanac? But as I said, I think farmers don't plant in snow just because the almanac says it's time to plant...
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: RedKetchup on March 20, 2019, 01:23:01 PM
when i asked what i can add.... i am talking about the resources/technology i can make spawn at the map generator. What you are talking, @donwolfkonecny  , is a job for programmers. you ask new ways that require new code. a moder cannot add new code. it can only use existent code that we see and that the developper want us to see...

So i found out that marble was not an egyptian thing, it is a greek thing. so NO marble. i changed it for limestone. pyramid and some other building will require limestone.
so RotP will have 2 kind of stone : Sandstone and Limestone, and mud bricks of course.

i just checked the Drifters Building and found an error. Thanks to a FB user who found the error.....

The Drifters really use the log limit but the spinner that is on the window is not the good one (food) so i edited the 2 drifters buildings and made shown the real good one as should be. (logs one)

we will get a 1.3.1 version tomorrow. (i've fixed a couple of other things too....) if there is something else to fix... please find it tonight LOL so i dont have to do a 1.3.2 after ^^

A combination of the two would be excellent.

Here  some screenshots. From pictures i saw, Egypt and the Nile part of the Egypt is not what we exactly think about Egypt & Deserts & Pyramids & Sphinxes....

So i tried to reproduce other kind of trees and vegetation we can get there.... where everything is about Evergreen Lush Luxurious environment.

QuoteThe wildlife of Egypt is composed of the flora and fauna of this country in northeastern Africa and southwestern Asia, and is substantial and varied. Apart from the fertile Nile Valley, which bisects the country from south to north, the majority of Egypt's landscape is desert, with a few scattered oases. It has long coastlines on the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Suez, the Gulf of Aqaba and the Red Sea. Each geographic region has a diversity of plants and animals each adapted to its own particular habitat.

So i made this tree. Look at it. and tell me what you think.

Title: Re: trees
Post by: donwolfkonecny on March 29, 2019, 12:08:10 PM
Yes they look more natural against the sand, than standard trees.
In my experience (I live in a desert), there are almost no tall trees, only bushy plants, normally not taller than the waist on a person.
Have you considered making wood only importable? Maybe the "tree"s all make thatch, used for construction.
Or clay to make adobe buildings, such as mexico Morocco or Mali.

I know along a river there can be trees, but I think you cannot put trees only on the river in banished.

These trees look beautiful but I also support the idea, that trees are rare and there can be other options for buildings and fuel. I don´t know what´s possible.

there are 3 biomes i wanna do with Rise of the Pharaoh.

Desert where nothing lives, maybe some oasis inside....
Nile where everything is luxurious
Savana where is midway between. not a desert, but it is hot and wild

i know RotP wont be about Logs. i know very well also i wont be able to prevent cheating getting extra forester and turn those desert into a north west temperate forest (america - euro zone)
there will be few use for logs.

Those trees are a phenomenal recreation of the ones in the pictures. I can't imagine how long that took you in your 3d model program, they look VERY similar to the reference picture. I'm very impressed =)
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: Jinxiewinxie on March 29, 2019, 12:31:44 PM
As for the cheating..  you could make a forester template that overwrites the base one in game and then have it point to a new tree template that grows less trees and much slower =) Then, the only folks who can cheat would be ones who download mods that replace the base game forester =)

I don't think you should try to plan around "cheaters", or you will spend all your time trying to outwit them instead of making good new stuff!

Besides who cares if they are making their game easier or bigger, maybe we can think of them as "mod-modders" lol

I really dig it! Do you think you'll do one that's sort of like the shrubbery that's along the water's edge on the left hand side of the reference picture you posted earlier? It looks like a plant people in my area sometimes grow decoratively, with the white fronds sticking out of the greenery.
Title: Re: plants
Post by: donwolfkonecny on March 29, 2019, 06:31:43 PM
Yes plants in a desert area would look more like this, pointy and sharp and hard. Not lush and big broad leaves.
I understand you want the area near the rivers to be lush and that's okay because it's not actually desert it's riparian.

I am afraid of the blocks I see in the background. I am not familiar with them and I am afraid of things with which I am not familiar.

the question is : With which theme do i start ? starting with the pointy and sharp desert ? and what if i would love to start with the other, the nice beautiful new life on the shore of the Nile ? (for my citizens ?)

I´m sure you´ll do the right thing. Do what makes fun to you.

To me, the reed looks a bit odd in a warm climate. Not the kind of reed where you can hide a baby Moses. But I´m not so familiar with the kind of plants that grows in that area so they might be right after all.

i know i havent posted much lately, but i am still working on the maps of Rise of the Pharaoh and the way things spawns on the map.

i started with redoing the layers of how spawn each part of the vegetation: starting at max shore: Papyrus, Reeds, Shore trees, then land trees (along with the minerals back)
and then since 2 days, i edited all numbers in all maps concepts about : number of lakes, sizes of lakes, number of rivers, how much mountains or not. only thing left is the erosion.

which bring me a question. I wish to make mountains looks like hills and dunes.... but it has a nasty side effect. it can take from 30 to 45 more seconds to generate the map, just cause the erosion.
So i am wondering if i should do it or not.

I am willing to have a slight decrease to load time for hills and dunes.
There are hills, dunes, and mountains in Egypt. Is it possible to have all three.

Waiting with baited breath for this mod set. Really love your work.
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread

i am almost done playing with geological effects : lakes, number, sizes, river counts, number of flat zones, their sizes, how connected they need to be.... and then erosion.
erosion data is set in each map for each size (4 sizes per map: small, medium, large, Xlarge) and look like this:

         // erosion
         int _erosion = 4000000;

thats the origival mountain map value. RKEC is set at int _erosion = 2400000; smaller the number is , more steep and high are mountains.

so to make the mountain look like dunes or small hills... you need to make up that number to 20,000,000 to 90,000,000 (20mega to 90mega instead of 2.4 or 4.0 mega)
but it takes a lot of time to bring down those mountains.

but it looks, it almost specially control the mountains all around the map, the map edges. and i can make control more the hills/mountain i am forming from the bottom of the valley......

i think it takes less time now. my biggest number is 20 mega. but more mostly towards good numbers now.

RED good job looking into this. wil this increased load time have other affects? will it slow the game as the bannies walk up and down them? how much affect on graphics?

i like the idea of having long hills instead of mountains. even if they sloped up to max height of a mountain, they would give much walking room. be great places for foresters. maybe we can have some flat tops to the hills also. this idea cod make some fun maps.

i am working presently on a row housing addon for RKEC.

so far 1 icon made, in 12 colors, they have 4 different models (2x with dorments or without) + (2x models with door one side or the other). those are 2x4 with road, hold 4 people only (2 adults 2 children) and cost 24 lumber, 8 stones. the last tile in the back allow shorelines(the back foundations will adapt to the water).

planing to make a 3 tiles width with 5 peeps, and a 1 tile wide for retirement apts(allowing 2 adults only)
also planning to add 3 floor high with 5 peeps.

this will be included one day in RKEC 1.4

NMT3.0 Rowhouses

NMT3.0 Rowhouses

Description: This mod adds 4 different kind of rowhouses: 2x3, 3x3, 4x4, and a 1x3 retirement apartment. Many have alternated "F" models with doors and windows changing place... all that in 12 different colors !

NMT Row House : A NMT Row house is used for housing your citizens. 2x4. Cost 24 Lumber, 8 Stones. Heat Eff% 80. Residence: 4 citizens.
NMT Row House : A NMT Row house is used for housing your citizens. 3x4. Cost 36 Lumber, 12 Stones. Heat Eff% 80. Residence: 5 citizens.
NMT Row House : A NMT Row house is used for housing your citizens. 4x4. Cost 48 Lumber, 12 Stones. Heat Eff% 80. Residence: 5 citizens.
Retirement RowHouse : A NMT Retirement Row house is used for housing your oldies. 1x4. Cost 16 Lumber, 6 Stones. Heat Eff% 80. Residence: 2 citizens. WARNING: No child can born in this retirement rowhouse for oldies.

TIPS: There is absolutely no control on who can live an house so you will have to manage it yourself. if you want to see and have a specific citizen or a specific couple of 50s60s aged citizens to live in those special houses, you will need to kick them from where they are just before the completion of the house. since they will be homeless, once done they will take it. after , their old house, you can give it to a young couple.

Enjoy!

@RedKetchup :DThank you very much for the release of "NMT3.0 Rowhouses" mods - great. I have a question, is it possible to add mod "Ketchup INC" to RK Editor Choice MOD? would now be a supplement to the mod "Jinxie - Bitty Pasta v1.1? - if @Jinxiewinxie would agree to add to the pasta - ketchup? - cool idea? I like to use mod in full. The second question is whether it is possible to add" BeefTomato "- @ kid1293 - to "Ketchup Factory" - also this mod would be used in full. I am asking for help in this area? This file is located on the Kid's Mods page - the title "Some Old Mods and Sources 1"
BeefTomato.zip (262.58 kB - downloaded 68 times.)
BeefTomato_source.zip (172.14 kB - downloaded 25 times.) Cheers!
Title: Re: adding Ketchup Inc to RKEC
Post by: donwolfkonecny on April 30, 2019, 07:18:38 AM
I am just curious, is there a reason to not use them as stand-alone mods? Is there an incompatibility?
The reason I ask is because I don't play CC because it is too overwhelming. I think starting to add non-productionchain mods to RKEC might start to "bloat" RKEC and make it also overwhelming. But, it is not up to me! :)
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: RedKetchup on April 30, 2019, 09:04:50 AM
yes it can be used as standalone mod.

the thing with this mod to be included in rkec is : the building is ugly as hell... so i would need to make a totally new mesh/design.

but today, i want to continue RotP. i am to need to make the random food spawns.
ive read the food will be totally different. they talk about wild celery, wild leeks, and things like that lol

Quote
Most years saw a magnificent harvest of cereal (barley and emmer wheat, which could be used to make bread, cakes and beer); vegetables (beans, lentils, onions, garlic, leeks, lettuces and cucumbers), and fruits (including grapes, figs and dates).
Sep 22, 2014

so i am gonna add : onions, lentils, garlic, wild leeks, and i ve read also about wild celery
do they have mushrooms ?

Hello I have a request.
After playing for a while with multiple mods, I am finding my marketplace/barn is filled with too many types of "useless" stuff.
I cannot see the important stuff at bottom of barn such as how many "warm coat" I have because it is at bottom of list. Meanwhile I see tons of Chanterelles, fiddlehead, lettuce, kale, cucumber, radish, all of which are "useless" because they cannot be used for anything. Also they make it difficult to know how many "vegetable" I have because I can't add them up quickly. Maybe those are fun for some people but for me they are useless - they may as all be "roots" because they are not part of any production chain. I like production chain. So my request is, please make production chains for foods, or don't make them separate items, make them "light" that means you make them pretty on the map but they collect as "mushroom, root, berries onion".
But if you can make a soup that requires "celery leeks" then that is fun, and useful.
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: RedKetchup on May 01, 2019, 10:04:02 AM
haha you need a Cooking Mod :)

meanwhile, i did Wild Garlic which will spawn and grow like an onion. spawned by the few trees.
they are discreet? (not big, not flashy)

i don't think bigger would look better.
Title: Re: Red's new Work In Progress (3) thread
Post by: donwolfkonecny on May 01, 2019, 10:22:10 AM
I like the way they look. However I find them a little difficult to see them, and identify them, especially if partially hidden by tree or something. I hear you don't want to make them bigger or flashy. I wonder if you could put some white behind them or something because with the shadow they look a little fuzzy.
I like the way they look and I would rather see them even if that means "flashy". I like the things to be easily identifiable. Actually your large picture of the flowers looks really really great, but the small picture in the ground looks nothing like that. I think I would like them larger so I can see all the nice work you put into them :)

@RedKetchup re NMT rowhouses mod. Added this to my mods and put it just below RKEC 1.3 in the list with RKEC being at top of list. I'm not seeing it as a housing choice. However I do now see TWO Country Little house with pantry/stockage. That's been duplicated and the original Country Little House (the one by itself) is no longer there.

What have I done wrong?

today i decided to fix and do all my remove toolbar.

things on the ground dont necessairly have the same names as vanilla or rkec had... so i ve got to fix all the links to natural resources files ...

as you can see, there are some gone (iron, deadwood)  and some new ones appeared (tin, wild things). many of the rkec remove tools are back.

here the final Remove toolbar:

@RedKetchup  :DIf I can suggest something about "Egypt" - I read that ancient Egypt "papyrus growing on the banks of the river made paper, mats, boats and other objects" - that would be an industry - In addition to growing legumes, including lentils, chickpeas and sesame ; vegetables - lettuce, onions, garlic; fruits - especially dates and grapes, as well as fodder plants for animal nutrition"
and secondly, I dream of a farm of camels and crocodiles - it does not have to be an animation here - but these animals are exotic - it would be nice to put them in this climate - bannies - to have meat, wool and eggs? Please, think about my suggestion? Greetings ;D :-[

this picture show you something i saw and i love to see.... this little design of housing is very incredible looking and when i look at it, i cannot help myself to see it as a Colorful Little House 2 :) with probably a first floor 3x4 tiles, and as colorful little house, the 2nd floor would take the next 2 tiles to the right and imbricate exactly like colorful.

i love this photo of 2 floor little house

@RedKetchup. :(I am saddened by this message - I can only pray to God - about your health - I think I write cheers - but music forgive me - I just want to cheer you with these words - my English language is very weak - I used to do other times and do not attach to teach our generation to English - this is a very sad period for me - the masses were in the so-called cold war - between Russia and the USA - I tried with my debit card - unfortunately it did not work out - have to be a little patient - we have a lot lately the heat is coming from 30 C - to almost 40 C in the shade - for me it is a lot - and I'm also moving - I lost 15 kg - but I think it's only because of age - I'm anxious to 70-siatsk I wish you a lot of health . I am with you with all my heart - maybe you will beat your sickness in the end - I can write other words - * hugs * and Greetings
