Title: Females-only generation
Post by: Dersha on March 26, 2018, 08:52:15 AM
I'm playing Banished for few months now (vanilla) and with my new town I've encountered a problem that I haven't seen before.
I'm in a year 6 and the first generation of kids just turned to adults recentůy. And just now, while checking the occupation of houses, I've noticed that the new adults are almost all females. So I'm having like 5 houses occupied by single young adult woman (and 3 more houses with 2 parents and 1 matured offspring - woman, again). And there are no single man to match them. I'm getting worried about how this will affect the population in next years. I got only like 2 couples from this new generation.
Is there any way to enhance birth rate of males? And why did this even happened? Is it a normal thing that happens in the game, like tough luck or something?
I'm using few mods but none of them should have anything to do with population or birth rates.

Thank you for any advice.

It's bad luck. This imbalance happens from time to time.

As long as there are some young boys, it will work fine. But only if the age difference is less than 20 years.(unless you're using some population mods, that changes this) As soon as there's a boy of 10, he will move to one of the single women. If he's a stundent or laborer doesn't matter, but only if she's younger than 30 years old.

The only trick I know, if you see, that most children have the same gender, is first to set the autosave, as often as possible. As soon as a child is born, see if it has the gender you want. If not, go back and start the game from the last autosave. There will be a baby born at the same time to the same woman, but it has another name and may have the other gender. If it's still the "wrong" gender go back and try again. It's tedious, I usually don't use this trick. Somehow it will turn out alright anyway. There might be a setback, the growth may stop for a while, but I have never seen that the settlement has "died" because of this.

if you want males, you need to put some houses next to mines and next to quaries :)

be glad it is females and not mostly males. females you can move out from parents and they can breed still.watch the females and when they finish school build more houses for them.

When that happened to me, I started accepting a lot of Nomads, hoping there would wind up being a better balance of sexes.  But sometimes that made too many people before I was prepared to feed, house and keep warm all of them.  If you leave it alone, after a while the older singles wind up with very young spouses.
