((My apologies for not having a pic, I'm nowhere near finished yet and this Family Tree is part of a video series that's still in the concept stage.))

I'm working on some ideas for a new video series. As part of this I've decided to track, as best I can, a complete Family tree, and maaaaate there's some funny stuff goin' on!

I got Uncles shacking up with their Neices, Mothers distraught with their husbands leaving them and falling in love with their Sons, Husbands bailing on their Wives when they get knocked up, a Woman getting sick of their husband and living by themselves hahaha.

I'm adding my own little story to each instance which makes it a bit more dramatic.

I'd like to know any funny things you guys have noticed over your time playing, with the families particularly.

Cheers

@DashJenkins, I did this for The Allberger Diaries series (very, very incomplete):

You can see how I imagined the people reacting.

I did the full-on family tree for everyone up to the point it was taking over my life, and you are quite right. In Banished marrying your cousin is mild. I started on hard, so the pool was very limited. It got to the point of "Please send nomads! We need genetic diversity!"

I used @torgonius' Banished Citizen Tracker spread sheet which I modified for the date span I was interested in and a freeware (I didn't want to put out any money for this project) genealogy program called Gramps. The part that finally got to me was all the data recording: Play a game year writing down everything that happened, then enter it all on the housing chart I made, Uncle Torg's spreadsheet and the genealogy program. Every game year took two days.

I think that @slink has also done some Banished genealogy, too.

@rkelly17 That's great thank you mate I'll see if that tracker is a bit easier to use than my botched spreadsheet I've been adding to!

Also I'm going to read "The Allberger Diaries" in full today because I love the idea (and appreciate how much effort you put in), I'm personally leaning towards more of a soapies style full of over the top drama and ridiculous reactions from the villagers, think "Bold and the Beautiful" lol.

I've been trying to keep track of everyone in my blog Dunsett and boy does it get interesting fast.  They start moving all over and are not picky about who they end up with.  I just had one lady who's husband died so she went to her father-in-law and then when he died she went to the brother-in-law.  Both new husbands died shortly after she moved in with them.  Maybe it was less out of love and more out of vengeance.

Anyway good luck, cause its a massive undertaking and I've only gotten into the sixties population wise and the paper I'm keeping track on is getting messy.  That comment about one game year taking two days to record sounds accurate to me.  Be prepared for what you're up against.

Sounds like she might have been killing them, or maybe she was as awful as my ex-wife and they killed themselves. lol. I look forward to the updates on the family matters.

For this reason I'm going to do my best to really slow population growth by only constructing a new house when my "story" calls for it, when it's part of the plot for example.
I've had 17-20 pop for the last 5 or so game years with the first generation dieing recently, so this way I hope to only have a small number of citizens to track at a time!

I'll also have to check out your blog, it definitely adds another dimension to the game when you take a close look at the filthy buggers.
