Another deer whisperer!

I've seen the behaviour of the hunters, too. It seems like a hunter hunts a grazing deer, if he spots one, inside his hunting circle or outside, it doesn't matter. Normally he stays in his circle, as he works, but if he has something to do outside/he gets the new profession hunter and hasn't reached his circle; bam; Bambi dead!

Every year certainly hasn't been like this, but sometimes it just comes together :)

(I've seen a few 1200 or 1160 (1 uned. catch) too, but it's rare)

often, the fact they have a cooldown on killing a wild animal (one animal per month per cabin) can lead to misunderstandings.

I guess this is work for me. Before, I used to put my hunting cabin just near forester lodge because i read that they work best together. I don't really care about the deers stop point, I just put it near forester lodge. Well, I experimented with it, I build a hunting cabin just in the middle of my housing complex, but it covers two deer stop points. And lo! I never imagine that they produce more venisson and leather than two other hunting lodges which are just deep inside a forest (the forester lodges are only plant, i disable them tu cut down the trees). My best hunting lodge produce about 800 venison and 24 leather per year, while thw other two about 400-640 venison and12-16 leathers per year.

I don't think it's good to set foresters on planting only, if you have other buildings located in the same area. I have tried gatherers and herbalists. It might be the same with hunters. The trees are too dense, so there might be less space for deer. You must also think about, that an uneducated hunter makes less than an educated. If I remember it right 200/6 to 160/4. Your 640 meat 16 leather is a proof for uneducation; the same number of deer; 4, as 800/24 for an educated.

I guess you're right. I don't have the ss of my last game, but I can't repeat it in my new town

This is an eye-opener. I thought the deer herds were purely cosmetic. This would explain why hunting always felt a little weak in terms of food for me - not enough deer in range.

you can still overhunt them also. yes it was fixed in later versions however,if you kill all the deer closest to you and the next herd is on the far corner,it will be a long time before they get near your hunters.so even thou you ay not kill them off the map, you can kill all the 1's close by.

2 rules help. do not overuse TOM's quick hunters. if the herd is less than 5 animals don't even send the hunter. 2nd, if forests are tight together, it helps to use 1 hunter cabin for both. this cabin in the middle will work both forests.

that being said there are exceptions and ways around this. in the railroad map i am on<see village blog>, i have "hunters" who work the far noth regions of the map that is not being built on. these hunters do not actually kill the wild animals on the map. the camp iis a group of RED's fort tower and KID's fort guard towers. and no they are not woring as a cheat. the map keeps hitting the textile limit whcih does shut down the towers from working.
