I don't know whether to report this as a bug or not.

I haven't seen that little automation since I started using mods.  So maybe autosave is also inhibited if you use mods as well.  In any case, I have it turned off.  It is not hard to suspend, do a save, then resume.
Go not to the oracle, for it will say both yea and nay.

I use mods and it still appears, but only after about 200 or so citizens. We need something like that reminder mod in SC4 that reminds you to save.

Anyway, this hang is no longer an issue, because something I did made it go away.

I had been wondering about this for a while, too - feeling that autosave is somehow responsible for crashes... so I had it disabled for a while, but that only left absorbed me with no saves at all  LOL... so I enabled it again. Anyways - since cleaning out my mods and registry regularly, crashes stopped. I don't think autosave is/was responsible.

As for the little animation - I rarely see it, as I have my town hall window in the upper left, and apparently the autosave icon does not always go "on top"... so I'm frequently checking my save list in the options - and can say that there is always a current 'autosave' (not older than my default 10 minutes)...

What would you have had to clean from your registry?  And you had some junk mods?

wine provides a pseudo-registry complete with regedit to keep windoze programs happy.

Even when I was a windoze user, I considered the registry to be a horrible kludge.

The registry file for Banished includes two sets of keys for mods, one which "indexes" them and one which tells which ones are turned on. Every so often (especially when I remove a mod from windata) I go in and delete them all. The game doesn't mind and creates two new sets. In the beginning of mods these registry keys seemed to be involved with much crashing. I have the impression that that problem has not been fixed. The game seems only to add keys, not delete useless ones.

Well, that's a relief.  I don't relish having to do that kind of maintenance for a game.
