In this episode, we get started building our little hamlet of Northpass.  We set up food production and housing, and survive the first winter.

This Let's Play Banished series is a vanilla (without mods or assets from the workshop) play through.

if you click the gear and then the arrow with a line above it ,you can adjust the limits.in the beginning the limits are low so clearing more land will slow down due to not being able to store more logs and stone.even if you have the space the bannies won't keep collecting if they reach the limits.also builders only build they need laborers to carry supplies so they can build.you need more laborers than builders.you can also adjust the number of builders working on each project, this helps when you want to build sveral projects at once. you will learn more as you go. good job starting with vanilla, that will help you learn more and adjust your own playstyle.

Thanks for the tips!  I hope you enjoyed the video and keep watching the series!

In this episode, we get pretty close to running out of food and deal with several other resource issues.  But we survive another several years.

looks like you are learning.one thing that helps productions is having storage nearby.rather it be farms or foresters or fishing.the closer the storage the more they can produce.each person plays different and there are many ideas to farm sizes.your theory that more will work faster works but does have a flaw. crops grow at different rates. a crop that takes a longer time to grow isn't going to be faster with more workers.if the workers are far away in sprng and get back late, the field can still produce less.as long as you don't try to clear far away that shouldn't be a problem.at the same time though 4 workers won't speed the field up. what i try to do with food is set fields to 10x10 with 1 farmer. and i try to average at least 500 units of food per worker, farmers, hunters, fishermen, gatherers, etc.that way i take the population divide by 5 and that is how many workers i should have on food production.again each person has their own way of playing and style.more workers at fishing docks and hunting cabins will give more that 1 but i don't think 2 gives twice as much as 1,etc.so each added worker is less productive than the 1st.
i do like the idea of a % of the population as laborers.having general guidelines does help manage the game more.that is an advantage to banished, everyone can make their own rules and play their own way.   some play to expand and grow far and fast.some play to be stable, some want to trade more.i think that part of the game comes with experience.the more you play the better you adjust your style.
word of caution since the map dropped you in a rough spot. if you cross a river, the bannies have a tendency to get lost and waunder all over the map.they can do that without a bridge. say you accidently tried to clear trees on the other side of a stream, the bannies might go and not be able to get back across.they will then walk all the way around the river.most times they will freeze and starve before they make it back.

my style never been more than 1 or 2 laborers lol
asap i have more than that, i always find a way to find them a job to do :)

In this episode, we had a couple of tense years waiting for a storage barn to be built and the children to grow up, but we are in better shape now than before!

the farmer who starved was most likely lost as i explained bannies will do across streams now and then. it is part of the game.i see you are learning and getting more organized. i try not to block fields. i leave a 1 wide space all around even between 2 fields.i have seen players have problems with fields that were blocked not being worked. the other problem is the bannies use the space nearby to set the harvested down. once they set it down the road loses the speed benefit.the farmers do become laborers in the winter. so after harvest season, you can clear land and they will help. just try not to clear far away by late winter-early spring. once bannies die without a cemetary they just disappear and the cemetary would be too late to help the happiness meter from the previos dead bannies family.don't get too frustrated there is a learning curve to it all.

In this episode, we planned out the downtown area of the village, by building a chapel and marking where the town hall and main market will go.  We also completed construction of the quarry and resolved the firewood issues.

ohoh tool problems ^^

Indeed.  That'll be the focus of the next episode, which will probably be posted on Tuesday.

czardus

In this episode, we deal with the Great Tool Crisis of the Early 20s.  At the end of the last episode we were out of tools, so this episode focuses on generating more tools to resolve that issue.  We also address a few other issues regarding food production and wood.

In this episode, we continued to deal with a tool crisis along with food issues, but we solved both by making significant gains in efficiency.  We added another blacksmith, farm, upgraded some homes and built homes and a storage barn near our new fishing dock.

a cityhall would help you monitor the efficiency and see all the inventory at once.did you adjust the limits? to me you have more foresters than needed yet your log count isn't very high.also ,markets do help move goods closer to populated areas.it is growing nicely though.
