Title: I would like to try to...
Post by: Oona on September 18, 2017, 01:33:29 PM
...mod bannie clothing. It's beautifully done. I still want to change it. But there's a good reason no one here is doing that, isn't there?

Verteiron at BanishedInfo did some recolors of the stock skins. Thumbnails of his working files look like what I used to work with in Second Life (for friends. I did clothing too).

But what about the clothing over the avatars? Shining Rock hasn't released tools to mod the clothing layer, has it?

So there's nothing to be done?

new minds are always welcome to try and crack parts of the game code. you may find something noone has yet. it has been done recently even on other parts. the clothing as far as we have is limited to a few levels of coats.shoes is something that has been discussed and asked for off and on. that option so far does not exist.the game has its limits on what we can and can't do.lately the limits have been pushed farther .
i remember there were skin options. i have never checked into them though. do they just related to the skin color and style or can it be used to affect and change the colors and style of clothing?it is an interesting place to start looking i guess.

Texturing citizen models is technically not a big deal in Banished. It's a simple overwrite of the original image. Red made a very nice one for his Pharao set and a few other mods made it too. The challenge is to handle the unwrapped texture. I send you the original file and can make the code if necessary.

@Tom Sawyer - I appreciate you giving me the file. I would like the code too, please.

@brads3 - Thank you for being so welcoming. I have not been a coder yet in my life. Not even a script-kiddie. I am shy around these people because of what they can do. They have earned the right to laugh at me. But what I read at WoB makes me think they don't laugh at people without good reason. As far as shoes, I think we can "paint" a different shoe on the citizens' feet. But we can't change the citizen shape. So no high heels for ladies. No cloaks, no hats with brims, no pants for ladies, no knee-length tunics for men.

I do not yet know how to use the code Tom Sawyer may send me. I would be grateful if someone was willing to point me in the direction to go and learn to do that. (I have downloaded the modkit tonight and am studying the README.)

Such a pity we get no ladies in high heels .. running at 10 x speed through the woods.  ;D

Great that you want to go for this. Bannies really need some new clothes. For a simple overwrite of textures it does't need much code. You can use this mod template and alter it with icon, description and so on. You just need to make your new images in models/citizen/.. and to run the batch to bake a pkm.

You know, in the time period where Banished appears to be set (i.e. medieval), high heels were worn by both men and women. However they were only for the wealthy so that they could keep their fancy footwear out of the dirt and mud! It was around the mid or late 1600s that certain high heel designs became exclusively for women. I believe that the term "well heeled" has its origin in the use of high heeled footwear by the upper classes/wealthy.
