Oh man, I'm getting old.
I have a total needed for this puzzle:
40 minutes time
2 Playmobil figures, Bernard & Albert should represent  ::)
10 Post It with the months and days

And the bad thing about it
The puzzle is for 14 year old students  ;D

RedKetchup

i have no idea. the citations at bottom dont give any clue of what is her birthday date so i doubt the answer is a 'month' + ' a date ' ^^

You could thus be right.  ;D

You are closer to the result as Red  ;D

salamander

Does that mean July 16 is correct, or just closer than Red?  I didn't explain why I think it's July 16 in case you wanted to leave this open for awhile, so I get if you don't want to say if July 16 is right or wrong.

BTW, wouldn't it have been easier for Albert and Bernard to just talk to each other to find out what the other knew?  ;)

You have a message in the mailbox.

"I don't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know that Bernard doesn't know it too." Rules out May and June, as Bernard could possibly know, if he was told 19 (May) or 18 (June).
"At first I didn't know when Cheryl's birthday is, but I know now." Rules out July 14 and Aug 14, as if it were one of these, he still could not know.
"Then I also know when Cheryl's birthday is." Must be July 16, if he knew it was in "August," he still could not know the date.

@irrelevant -- pretty the same path I took.

The interesting thing is that this puzzle doesn't follow the usual pattern of this type of puzzle.  Usually, the clues (ie, Albert's and Bernard's statements) are stand-alone.  In this case though, Bernard gets additional information based on the way his statement is worded: 'at first I didn't know, but now I do' ... this means that some additional information came Bernard's way at the comma.  As near as I can tell, the only place that information could have come from is from Albert's first statement.  That Albert is certain that Bernard doesn't know the answer is a clue to Bernard.  I'd have to assume that Albert and Bernard were talking to each other without actually telling the other what the month/date was.
