Title: BRAD'S SETTLING OF AMERICA SERIES 3: Guerner
Post by: brads3 on October 13, 2019, 08:10:29 AM
this will be a fun map but quite different.no more of the food and trees of the Northeast.some of this is in Beta still so it will look weird.

mod count 95, RED's pharaoh mod with KID's mexican add on but twisted through Africa
none of this is PC or historically correct, this map covers 2 countries so it is no where near to scale

you have heard of Lewis and Clark who traveled out from the mighty river to cross the Louisianna Territory and explore it. this is the other group who traveled down the river and overland on the southern edge.

we traveled down the Mississippi river several days. while we camped 1 night, the river rose quite quicky.by morning, our boats were gone aong with much of our gear and supplies.the mighty river was rising and flowing too swift for travel. it was a huge change from the calmness the night before.

we packed the camp up and loaded it onto the livestock we had.luckily we had the horses and pack animals.we headed  cross country to the west. it was a long dusty trip.as we moved farther away from the river, the landscape changed.the lush grasses were replaced by sage brush and cactus.we passed by bison herds and indians. these indians seem to live in tipis and move with the bison herds.

1 day we came to an oasis and decided to make camp.over time we explored and found a river to the south. across the river,we saw villages. the houses appeared to be made of the sand we walked on.they do not look or act like indians.we will stay and explore this area further.

after too many attempts, this is the best i came up with for a map.ignore the main river turning east across the top.

by the time we found the oasis, our clothing was wore out and our tools were broken. we set up camp, planted 2 fields, and repaired tools.we were so short on food that everyone kept busy searching for whatever they could find. with the water of the oasis,we did get some hunting and fishing.

we quickly realized we will have to work for food and logs.it is too hot for the seeds we have. we dont have RED's fodder stables and greenhouses nor his orchard foresters. i do have crates and barrels that we can use to store goods.we look like indians working with stone tools and wearing our leather clothes.

YEAR 2 to 4

to help our food production we will need to dig irrigation ditches.the wheat did better but the pumpkins don't like the heat.we locate carts, storage crates, and sheds to save walking in the heat.we grow our own flax and make linen clothing.we found enough logs to repair our storage carts.

we still have some of the tree seedlings that we left the fort with.they are different than the trees that grow here. knowing the trees will need plenty of water, they will be planted near the lake north of camp.

although we have enough food,we decide to build a hothouse.this will give us more fruit.with it built near the irrigation ditch the worker can keep it watered.as our children become older,we begin to build houses.since the pumpkins and wheat did so poorly,we borrowed seed from the people south of the river and used irrigated fields.we will grow beans and corn.

YEAR 5 to 8

with bison roaming around the oasis,we weren't surprised when 2 scouts set up a tipi south of us.we expect more indians will arrive soon.

as expected the 2nd pair of indians arrive. they begin hunting  bison. the 3rd group was a family of 4 indians.they collect honey. they built 2 tipis ,1 for their teen son.the next set had 15,12 workers and 3 chidren.they setup a village and hunted south of us. while they hunted, they repaired and made new tipis.

at the moment we have no iron ore. we do have some bronze, copper and tin ore. we made more stone tools and linen clothes. i did have to manually force the adults to move into the houses instead of the young workers. to keep what little shade the trees provide,we select cut here and there.this way the native trees can continue to spread out.  i am curious to see if the thatch dies off.

we worked to increase storage. a 2nd worker was sent to plant trees. the trees do not grow quickly here.

YEAR 8 and 9

while the indians took time to hunt enough leather for their tipis,we cleared and smoothed a path to the south river. a stone bridge was built to access the villages. to slow our own growth,a mini school was built.this shoud delay our children from moving out and causing confusion.

that plan didn't work. 1 of the indians moved into the wagon with the teen girl.

the indians spread out, they have 3 hunting areas, the village,2 gatherers, and even a stockade for the horses.KIDs workpace and the mini mod give the indians soe workplaces.storage is crates, carts, and some mini sheds.i do wish we had a mod to expand the indians with. they still need a medicine man tent,a tailor with feather headdresses,an open meat dryer, etc.

i was impressed with the forester.surprising they planted native trees. some of the foresters might plant oak, pine, and birch trees.now that this 1 has filled in,i want to send 1 of the foresters  to plant the next. the trees and plants might change going north on this map.

YEAR 10 REVIEW

popuation 52 in 18 houses.about half indians and half settlers.a mixture of tipis, wagons, mini tents, and plantation houses.5 mods just in houses.the school is full. 1 might skip school and become our 10th laborer. the rest of the children are quite young.

the irrigation has helped our food. with the oasis there is penty of fish and game.the trees do appear to be spreading but much slower than the RKEC. i think if the RKEC was adjusted to halfway between this mod and the RKEC it woud be awesome.it is nice to have some open meadows. with the slower growth, i have not sent a combo forester to work the start camp.the thatch has not died off.yet the regrowth is ot overpowering.RED has done a good job of learning and adjusting the control #'s.

i worked to not over cut the trees.we cut some narrow strips through the forests here and there.that worked to give the trees space to sprout more trees.whereas if you clear a large area, the trees can only multiply on the outer edge.wtih the warm temps,we have yet to cut any firewood. i was trying to see if the wagons will burn thatch.all the other tipis and houses are.that is helping us conserve logs.

the population growth of the start camp was held down. with KID's welcome signs,we controlled the indians when we had resources.they did have to work for leather to finish the tipis. it worked out to give a nice breaking point before the next big expansion.

i wish i had brought more mods. i did bring some production and mine mods in case they were needed. wasn't sure what all woud be neeeded with RED's changes to the Pharaoh mod. it would have been helpful to have more greenhouses and an orchard mod.RED's decorations would have been handy.i think this will work quite well though.

before i start the huge project to the south,i think we need to work toward trading.we have linen clothing and wool to ship.if you think the map looks odd wait til we get across the border.

Neat. I'm liking this. Looks like the Nile maps also add the copper from RKEC and change the trees to palm? Keep it up.

YEAR 10 and 11

we had sent a messenger back to the fort with a report of our progress.10 setters arrived back. they  were the 1st of 2 groups promised. with news of the villages to the south of our border, orders had been given to estabish a fort to open a trade route between the colonies and the southlands.

the settlers dug another irrigation ditch and planted corn and potatoes.1 pair build a home in the forests.the 3rd couple built the post office and began clearing land for the fort.

a year later the 2nd group arrived. there were 12 of them,7 adults with 5 children. they built a trade post, school, doctor office, and a blacksmith.

local bronze was used for the trading post and we built the RK blacksmith to use the nearby copper ore.linen clothing, wool,as well as some local reeds and flowers were sent back to the colonies.

YEAR 12 and 13

the fort added a chapel and cemetary. the south wall had storage,a tailor, and a brewery.a stable for the horses and a barn for the cows was completed in year 13.they ake fur coats to trade and some ale from the plums.
another irrigated field was planted in oats.

YEAR 14 to 16
a fishing pier and bakery are added to the fort.a corner market will make sure goods are delivered  and distributed.we cleared land and built the north wall.it will be used to send 3 hunting parties out along the river.they will explore the land and bring in more furs as well as meat.

17 citizens arrived,12 adults and 5 young children.they are explorers and gold seekers.a placer mine works the river and a smelter was built.

our greatest problem is having enough logs with all the construction.this caused us to be short on tools.3 foresters work the heavily planted RK forest.2 plant the mixed forest of oaks and pines.an EB small market helps haul logs to the fort.a 2nd blacksmith is planed to process copper.

YEAR 17 and 18

now that everyone is settled into their houses,we work to restock supplies.another mixed forest is planned to the north and a gathering hut works between them.we cleared and fenced a pasture at the fort.

we have our 1st death. a lady died during child birth.

the hot house that is set to produce blue berries is producing juniper berries.evidently RED has replaced the berry.so anything that uses blue berry should now use juniper berries.different and unusual change.the fort brewer switches fro plum ale to berry ale. even with the low alcohol limit, the bannies are drinking us out of food.

the lack of tools and low education have a huge impact on these irrigation fields. otherwise the fields have produced well or were.

YEAR 19

we need to recover fro the tool shortage.the general trade erchants bring so any ites but not enough seeds.we will expand the trading and add more trade posts. without RED's farm trading post,we will need 2,1 for seed and 1 for livestock.

        we traded for 3 cattle.

YEAR 20 REVIEW

population 123,29% educated in 33 houses.with the fort construction, we ran short on logs and stone at times. that made us short on tools which slowed us down. food production will improve as we overcome the tool shortage.it is taking longer to revcover than i had hoped.

the fort has a lot of room to expand.it is the 1st fort west of the Mississippi River.being this is Texas everything is bigger. hence,we made a large fort.

i am curious to see how this handles iron.  did RED swap the bronze for the iron like he did the juniper and blueberry?  i do have some mods to bring iron. i do wish we had a hill nearby for a mine.there is more work to do before heading to the south.

the plan is to get the indians to produce their tools.with them making stone or wood tomahawks,we should recover quickly from the shortages.a quarry will be needed for more stone.then i can begin the project south of the border.

the ROP mod has thatch regrowing.not sure where the bannies are getting it but they seem to collect more and more.
the new tree forest is very thick.it doesnt seem to plant palm trees.there are 3 workers there to cut logs.the regrowth is slower than the RKEC and we do have meadows still after 20 years.

YEAR 20 and 21

the indians are making wood tools. a multi quarry was started.we do need iron to complete this.we also trade for 3000 food, cabbage, watermelons, and blackberry.we also traded for corn seed.now that we overcame the tool shortage, i can plan the south area.

to help our trading,we add a 2nd tailor for the flax and the indians make leather coats.we take in 50 copper tools in trade.

YEAR 22 and 23

this will be fun. this will be a mixture of a few mods.there are a lot of different materials needed. we need to trade for some iron to finish the quarry.  the buildings look much different between the mods.i'll do what i can to make it loook decent and fit together.

while we work to increase stockpiles again,we add storage and crop fields to the south.we trade for 2 red dairy cows and fence another pasture. the indians build a FO thatch school and expand some tipis.

i had sent extra workers to a couple of the irrigated fields during the tool shortage. they can plow their own fields now. a 10% welcome sign will bring nomads to work south of the border next year.

we have an unlabeled seed according to the merchants.we also have an item with no label that we have 2 of.

YEAR 24 and 25

13 nomads arrive and build adobe houses across the bridge. they plant corn and squash.they have a RH blacksmith, tailor, and storage barns.

we skip nomads for  year 25 to work on making more tools.a pasture is fenced for the plantation village.the cattle will be moved there and we acquire chickens for the fort.more stone and copper ore is hauled. to get iron a RH building material trader is constructed.to keep all 4 trading posts supplied another flax garden is planted.

a merchant finally brings iron ore.we take 200 iron ore and  20 copper at the material trade post.finally we can finish the muti quarry.

the south village added 2 peach orchards and  corn and sunflower field.a new African beehive was built as well.they added 8 nomads and built more adobes.

we traded for 50 iron.  RH markets will keep the camp and indians supplied. they will move materials to keep workplaces supplied along with the food .

YEAR 30 REVIEW

population 180,just short of half educated, in 48 houses.the camp grew and the settlers built a fort.the indian village continue to hunt nearby. an adobe village has been started south of the border.3 different types of people living in 4 or 5 areas deending on how you count them.

yes,we are still short on some goods.we have survived the tool shortage.the irrigated fields work steadily.i had the bannies searching for materials too long and farmers were late to their crop fields.the south is already working to clear several more fields.

it took time to overcome the shortages. i would have liked to have more progress to the south by now. the multi quarry does produce iron, stone, and some coal.trading has expanded and now includes saddles and coal.the merchants do bring more goods on their boats.   we took in  a little glass and limestone  as well as salt for the leatherworks.we have chickens, beef cattle, and the Texas longhorns.we gained 4 seeds plus the peaches.

there are several mods i wish i had here. the thatch or RED's fodder mod woud be nice to have near the indians.with no mountains, mining is tough. i am not sure we have a way to get copper ore except to continue gathering it. now that we have iron, more stone quarries can be dug.

while the adobe village is busy with the crop fields,  more houses and another pasture are needed.then we can build the 2nd south village.there should be at least 4 on that side of the river.it will take the next 10 years to buid the 2nd south village.

our crops do poorly with the hot sun. we cleared 3 more fields but do not have confidence in getting much from them.more irrigated fields will be needed.the peach orchards produce a decent amount of fruit.

combo gardeners will cut trees for the indians, the start camp, and fort.the south village built a tiny quarry. they will need more stone soon. more plantation houses and tipis were needed for graduates.we also clear another pasture.

while land is being cleared for the 2nd south village, the builders work with the indians.more tipis and storage are built. another gatherer and bee collector are sent out.

9 nomads will move to the south. the crops do not like this heat.we have tried different seeds, but have more losses than gains. i didn't want to replace these as the variety is nice to have.hopefully we find a seed that will grow well here.

they settled the mission where they had found a pond full of fish. even in this hot climate, it never goes dry. they built the mission and the town grew around it.it had a distillery and EB winery.
i allowed the 15 nomads that arrived in year 36 to stay. this should speed progress along.they planted a 3rd peach orchard. a log depot works to haul logs back to the plantation village. we needed to empty piles that are quite full.

to improve the movement of food,4 mini food markets were built. 1 for the adobe village,1 the indians, the ission, and 1 to the start camp.the RH markets are working to keep workplaces supplied.the southern blacksmiths are making steel tools to use up coal. with this warm climate, we hardly use any firewood. hence our stockpiles are full of logs.we have started to ship some of them.

the mission added 3 more irrigated fields, cleared 2 pastures, and 2 quiet gardens and a fountain.i stil have lots of clearing to the south to do and the west side.

YEAR 40 REVIEW

population 285,56% educated,in 75 houses, including 1 boardinghouse or hostel. are production levels have improved.we have yet to find a crop seed that will grow well in the war climate.KID's gardens produce very well.

the mission has grown over the last 10 years. they are producing steel tools.the south section needs another grape orchard and several garden fields. the west wall will have another hostel and the school extension.

there is just enough regrowth of the trees to make the bannies work.even with trading logs, stockpiles remain full.a food trading post would help move some excess items and bring more food. the material TP brings a lot of copper and ore for tools as well as salt.the main TP brings a ixture of items. often the erchants do not have food on their boats.

there should be enough space to start the RK Pharaoh village between the mission and the river.we have traded for some mud bricks and limestone.if we have to wait to produce items,i'll send the bannies buiding the bridge and start work across the river.once they move logs out, they shoud work much faster.

7 nomads arrived and moved into the mission hostel.they helped speed the clearing of trees. a bee keeper wil keep the grapes pollinated.a picnic area near the winery and  more benches were built and more rose bushes planted.
a small greenhouse will produce pumpkins, just to add some variety.

YEAR 43

we have taken a lot of food in trade the last few years.we took root seeds and will see if they can produce in the heat. surprisingly nobody has orange, watermelon, or tropical seeds to offer us.we can start shutting down the livestock and seed trading posts.

the west wall was finished. the bannies took time to clean up inside the mission and planted more decorations. it is a large mission.there are a lot of stuff from many mods in here.our food production has improved. the population has grown enough that we need 5 more houses.

i had tried to load the new Mexican upgrade but had no luck.  i a very grateful that i had your garden mod. w ithout those greenhouse fields,i never would survive on food in this hot climate.

these  mexicans are odd. they will have an africa look to their area yet.LOL

YEAR 44 and 45

15 NOMADS arrive to begin the Egyptian village.this will be fun to build.there is different material requirements.   this mod is still in development so some buildings haven't been changed yet.  it has storage, markets, and some houses.a mudpit to make the needed mud bricks and a few decorations come with the mod.

we did need to make some bronze. the merchants brought 2 types of bronze so we traded for a few of each.we still need to make more mud bricks for some counstruction projects.

YEAR 46 and 47

we finished a boarding house and large market. tea is planted and 2 garden fields.we need ore limestone for the statues.other than what the bannies collect as they clear land,we have to trade for more.i don't see any way to get it.

knowing how fast and thick the regrowth is,we took a year to clear more trees around the mission and Egypt villages.

YEAR 48 and 49

this next area will be fun.it is the African mods by @angainor88. not sure how it all will fit together. i did send the bannies building some houses while they clear land. a workpile and KID's cart will be all the storage they have while they work.

the traders will work at moving logs out of the south piles.

we have so any children that our schools are all full. the plantation village wi build a school. while they are there, the workers finish off EB's irrigation canal and plant 2 more fields.

YEAR 50 REVIEW

population 394,102 children,65% educated,in 102 houses. food production is well balanced even thou it is a little low. trading helps bring in a bout 2000 food each year. the bannies fell short on copper. they spent the last winter scavenging copper ore so tools  will recover. the indian chief is 74 and the undertaker is 80 years old.

we started with a small camp and built a nice trading fort.the indians settles nearby to hunt bison. south of our border is the Mexican adobe village,a huge mission, and an Egyptian village. a double south African town has been started.the fort produces saddles from leather they trade from the indians. they also have groups of explorers that bring back furs and gold.  the adobe village can not produce food with crop fields in this heat. the peaches do well.the spring fed pond supplies the mission with fish and enough water for their roses and shade trees. the egypt village is small but makes a good work camp for builders and laborers.

it is quite different with a mixture of mods. i think it looks good.having mod options helped keep us supplied with food and tools.

there are a few combo gardeners working to clear regrowth. the RK ROP is better than the RKEC for that. here thatch-fodder does regrow.the bannies keep looking for leopards and snakes. they do wonder why it doesn't rain much in this jungle. LOL RED did make improvements. it took twice as long for the regrowth to take over, but the forests look thicker than the RKEC.

the african town is 2 mod sets. being a large area,it will probaby take more than 10 years to finish.

the only storage for the African sets is a mountain storage. they will need some crates and carts for storage from KID and EB.2 KID greenhouse fields will grow food. the African mod comes with tea so an orchard is planted. a  dock and a market are completed.

YEAR 51

i went to look at the write ups on these mods. not everythig translated to english in the toolbars  and i wanted to be sure of what the buildigs did.i don't want to mess it up and was hoping for more info on how the set fits together. found i am missing the africa housig set.hopefully i am not missing any other parts. with several mods makig up a set,it is handy to have a list of all of the parts.in this case i actually have 2 sets, south africa and moracco.

while workers are busy hauling materials, the builders work to improve some roads.an egyptian stone road stretches from the african vilage to the mission. the university is competed and a synagogue and tannery.

YEAR 52

a tea house and a food stand are built.not sure if the tea house will function since it reads that it takes tea leaves.this did process tea once i raised the luxury limit. the building does read that it uses the food limit.

since it is africa or mexico,i decided to upgrade to a sandy road for the african village. not all roads can lay dow over top of another so i didn't go back and change roads thru the mission. since the mission has the spring, several parks are upgraded to a lush grass.

there are a lot of different houses in these sets. i wil use the huts for farmers. then the south african or cape town set south of the lake.

YEAR 53

we plant another tea and peach orchard.  it takes almost 3yrs for the tea orchard to produce. i do think the tea is in-edible since none of the bannies have any in their houses.

a bath house was added and more huts and houses.so far the only thing i added to these sets was storage and KID's gardens.even the beekeeper is from the african mods.

Yes, the tea from the tea trees is inedible. It's under the same limit as herbs are. The finished product of tea that's made in the tea house is under the same limit as alcohol :)

i figured that out with the tea house. by then i had several orchards producing super well. have started trading both tea's.  set more traders to help move stuff farther north toward the trade posts.

YEAR 54

we built the small mosque and started work on the super large 1. a clock tower was completed and a grape orchard was planted. the clock tower works as a townhall.the african town has grown large enough that it extends to the edge of the map. the large mosque needs alot of stone but not many logs. a 2nd fishing dock and more houses were added.

the bannies are concerned with the jungle. they are worried the chidren will get lost or attacked by animals.as such they have slowed down progress. it is thick enough that even as they build more and more the log pile remains full.logs are being hauled to the mission.the log depot moves them from there north for the trade posts.

we trade for copper to keep the tools supplied and salt for EB's leatherworks. food trading is restricted to mainly what we produce as well as watermelons and berries.we have taken in tomatoes and chili since we can not produce those in the hot climate.

YEAR 55

the fort graduates build a village south of the fort. several markets are constructed to trade goods among the many towns. they will haul goods between the villages and tradng posts. this will be a good way to use up some logs.

all the logs from the african village workpile  have been hauled away.they did finish the huge mosque.just clearing along the shore of the lake re-filled the pile to 80%.

YEAR 56

a stone chapel is built at the market village.a native trader will trade ale for venison fro the indians. i do wish this had better options as it is very expensive trades.the village stretches to the river and adds a fishing dock and EB farm house. a tiny fish smoker will help use firewood at the fort.more houses have been constructed to scatter laborers.i do think that helps move goods around to the outer regions.

for some reason we are showing 2 kinds of chili in the inventory. we have traded down a lot more logs.

we head back south to the African village. a pasture is cleared and needs fenced.the cattle will be moved here and chickens will use the plantation pasture.to support all the houses, more garden fields need planted. a capetown bar and dutch hospital are completed.an EB salt mine and a multi-mine are dug beside 2 mountain storage barns.

YEAR 60 REVIEW

population 531, with 60 laborers.79 % educated in140 houses.even thou the builders constantly add more, we always 20 houses short. we are overstocked on logs and short on stone and iron. food production is decent with the garden fields. had i known tea produced so well and was not edible,we would have planted more peach orchards instead of tea. we are trading tea leaves and tea for food.

the Africa village is over half completed.it is a colorful town.  there are a lot more houses to build. there is a good variety to them.hopefully by the time we have enough stone to finish them, the workers will have the trees cleared.more workers are moving the logs out of the piles.

once the south village is completed,i do want to do some clean up for the indians and fort.i do wish i had a thatch or fodder mod for the indians at least.with the heat, RED's greenhouses would have gave more food varieties. those limit some of the food processing.

YEAR 60

as logs move north, food needs to move south.more vendors are sent to help haul the food. with more limits and variety of goods, the merchants spend time stocking a mixture of items ad less food.the mini food market helps solve that. however,it only allows 1 vendor. the larger markets are busy moving a variety of textiles and minerals.nobody is going hungry ad we keep planting more food to feed the many houses.

i should mention that i did NOT build the farmers market with SLINK's set south of the fort. that would have worked against us. it would have pulled food away from the outer regions and made the situation worse.those markets work to move textiles, herbs, tea, and other excess goods so farmers have more space in their barns ad carts.

the south africa town has 20 different houses plus color ad texture options to several of them.

the AFRICAN mods have some unique housing options.players may find parts of these sets handy as they are very diverse. the huts could work in a plains or indian map. the town and row houses might fit in some mine or production maps.
