Title: BETA: MOD: Decorative Items Pack v 1.3 Beta - RedKetchup (fixed bug x2)
Post by: RedKetchup on September 16, 2014, 09:06:40 PM
Hello everyone ! Finally my BETA Mod is ready to be released :)

MOD: Decorative Items Pack v 1.2 - RedKetchup

1. This Mod introduce a new "root" toolbar called : Decorative Items
(http://worldofbanished.com/gallery/37_16_09_14_6_38_12.png)

Inside that toolbar you will find all the items coming from my Decorative Items Pack.

2. Fences (Wood Fence) : This Decorative Items pack hold many different wood fence. 1 straight line, 1 corner in a "L" shape, 1 corner in a "Y" shape and 1 corner in a "+" shape.
All those different shapes allow you match alot of fence design projects. you can rotate them with the "R" and "T" keys. if you want to destroy it or destroy one part, you will need to use the Remove structure tool.
Those fence cost between 1 and 3 logs to build and cost 10 buildwork units (time) to build. Only one worker will work on each fence.

later, i will add a stone fence options to let you do the same but with stone designs, and maybe also walls.

3. Trees (Wild Trees) : This Decorative Items pack hold many different wild trees. 1 Eternal Pine, 1 Eternal Birch, and 1 Eternal Oak. They all coming from the wild forest. Unfortunatly, limited by moddling skills , those decorative trees will spawn full growth , adult, when the builder will finish to plant it. Though they will change color during seasons, they cant die and they count as a 'building' the same way bridge, tunnel and well. So if you want to remove them, you will need to use the Remove Structure tool.  Those trees will cost 1 Seedling Unit to make it happend. you can also use "R" and "T" to rotate these trees.

4. New ressource : Seedlings. The General Good Merchant and the Resources Merchant will sell you Seedlings. This new ressource will also be crafted in a new building which will be called : Greenhouse. The base value of these new seedlings is 8 trade units and will come in packs that will let you use for many trees.

you're making me crazy! .)
I had downloaded the first beta version here, installed and played for 2 hours at 5 / 10x!
then you brought out the version of banishedinfo, I downloaded that version replacing the previous one and the game crashes because it tell me that the author has created a different version from the one saved for the game!
now my question is: in general, how can I update the mod to the various versions released for them to use on already saved games?
I have to leave in the folder Windata the various versions of the game takes the most recent?
I have to overwrite the old version? I have to rename the new version somehow?
or do I wait for you to release the final version?

oh I forgot !!
have you seen the link that I posted you on another thread to show the stone fence built by a Steam player?
has also used the locking gate wooden livestock.
and the opening of the fence in stone like that of the cemetery!

ireally dunno what does some non-compatibilities with some builds on old saves. i think you should switch versions when you start new maps.

this is a period of great troubles for the game, once people will greatly have slowed to make mods the game will be more stable. till then, all your saves are kinda going to garbage.

yes i saw your link, but the guy doesnt seems to be in any forums/website. working alone for himself.

Bonjours, over here!   ;)

I agree that so much is happening these days it's hard to keep up. We have a list of what works here:http://banishedpeople.freeforums.org/editor-s-choice-t99.html (http://banishedpeople.freeforums.org/editor-s-choice-t99.html) that can help.

I used my steam account, (have it for other games) to search for him and found nothing, not even his screen shots. The steam forum is difficult to use, even for an expert net user like me, the search engine sucks, the chaos of strange things posted, and lots of similar how-to videos, make it hard to find anything of value.   ::)

I thought I might make an attempt to not lose two hours of play in 5 / 10x reinstalling the very first version of your mod (fence instead of the tree), loading the game, turning off the mod, saving.
where can I find it?

it is not appearing in my game when activated.
Title: Re: BETA: MOD: Decorative Items Pack v 1.1 Beta - RedKetchup
Post by: RedKetchup on September 18, 2014, 10:23:45 AM
there is no mod  'order' in the game unless you have conflicts , if you have a conflict the data you really want to load is the first one in the order, when there is a conflict the 2nd one data that conflict is discarded.

if you load a save game, make sure you return in mod to re-activate it. can you do a screenshot of your mod window while in your save game ?

keep in mind it is always "touched" to use an upgraded version with an old save. always preferable to do an extra save just in case.

My relatives from Oklahoma and Georgia would say someone was "teched (which I took as dialect for "touched") in the head" when they wanted to imply that the person was a bit crazy. Sort of like calling someone "kookie" or a "kook" in the late 50s and early 60s (after the character in the TV series 77 Sunset Strip). @RedKetchup, is your usage from Quebec French?

"Touched in the head" is also used in Indiana, where I'm from, except of course with Hoosiers they say "teched in the haid." ;)

I know that @RedKetchup is a proud Francophone.  I wish that I could speak French as well as he does English. My grandkids, who are in French Immersion in school, think that I am more than a little bit out of it for my lack of French skills. The reason I brought up the "touched" and "tetched" difference is that I love language and wanted to understand how different languages express things. I remember how learning German many years ago (unfortunately all too rusty now) opened me to new ways of thinking about issues and new ways of understanding other cultures. I really admire those of you who use this board in your second (or third or fourth) language and wish that I had your ability in languages.

And having taught at the Masters and Doctoral level for 30 years I can tell you that many graduate students who are monolingual native speakers of English can't do as well as many of you can in the language.  :'(

Where we live, knowing the two languages are almost a must, I meant no offense with my comments. The discussion of different terms can be interesting since we are all friends here! :)

Since obviously you have an extreme talent for this, can I ask, could you make us some color for the game? Maybe the cherry trees are pink or something at the least? Love this game and am loving the mods, but the game seriously needs some color in it!

Thank you for all that you're doing!

Think the colours are fine really, mostly, but I'd love a new stone house that wasn't so butt ugly. It feels like a downgrade from the cosy look of the woodhouses.

Isn't that the truth! There is the one stone house with the wrap-around porch that looks nice, but you can't have all the houses in your village looking the same. Even a small porch over just the front door would help.

People need to get to their house to eat, so that is probably the reason. Remove that road restriction, somebody are bound to stick houses even more crowded together. People live there, and need to get there to eat... "Why the hell are my people starving to death?!"

Yeah I think the space for a road is necessary so that town designers don't put houses directly next to each other and stop people from entering.

I would love to see more variety in housing choices. Especially stone houses.

there are some StoneFenceTJunctionMesh and StoneFenceFourwayMesh in the game but seems incompleted 3D or i dunno. i failed to added them when i added the straight one and the corner one. i was getting some weird error when i tried to compile them. i also felt the compile was getting bug by extremly long long long long path/name.rsc.

i will recheck later, maybe add my own ones when i ll do some walls too.

Just had a good long play with the latest pack - it's so fantastic, and everything so well done... but I guess you already knew this, right?  ;D

Okay, the few 'indestructible' items have been mentioned - I'm sure you find a solution  ;)

Another little thing - right now the "Seedling Limit" of the Greenhouse is tied to the "Log Limit" of the Forester Lodge, so when I reduce the seedling limit I automatically reduce the log limit as well - quite a trap LOL... took me a while to figure out why there were no more logs coming out of my forests...  Nothing really serious, once the cause is understood - still, would be nice if you can separate those two, if at all possible... if not - no sweat, just one for the ReadMe  ;)

One little issue that I ran into. I built the arbors going the wrong direction.  :-[  I could remove the roads under them but not the arbors themselves. They truly are indestructible. Next time I'll look more carefully before I build.

Actually a modder's dream... LOL

Seriously though - that seems to be the case with any lot that is "traffic enabled" - which is of course essential to the gate-pieces... I'm sure RedK will solve this, must be somewhere in the code for those green arrows, I guess...

i ll try at some point to make a new button, kinda same as 'upgrade to stone house' on wooden house but saying "remove the item" :P

@RedKetchup something I have noticed lately is that the number of seedlings in my settlement is several times more than the quota I set. For example, I have a quota of 1400 seedlings (which is closely connected with the quota for logs such that if you change one it changes the other) but my inventory reports over 8000 seedlings in storage. Even if I trade away 1000 I still have 8000. Those nursery workers are going nuts!

LOL

Yeah, I second your observations... a friend of mine has added this -

QuoteI have four botanists; the limit is set at 6000 and appears to have been reached. But
(1) : there are only 836 seedlings in storage.
(2) : there are four TPs with 1500 seedlings each = 6000 seedlings

Which means this mod counts what's in the TPs and not what is in the general storage, right?
Should it work that way?

Though both of us were like "Oh well, at least it works somehow... and without crash."  ;D

what is in TP doesnt count about limits ! same for firewood. if you put 900, at 900 you ll get the full status icon and the woodcutter will stop. then you tell the TP : hey go pick up 400 firewood. and hop ! woodcutter restart to work and can make another 400 to reach 900 again.

in TP it doesnt count. you all know that!

Sorry to say, but when it comes to seedlings, just as @Paeng says, the content in the trading port counts. Just noticed this as I was playing around a bit with the mods. It is not a big deal, no real problem to put the limit higher.

I think that the seedling count may have some other problem. The "limit" is linked to the log limit--watch and as you adjust one the other adjusts too. But seedling production simply ignores the limit, even when it displays the "up to max limits" icon. The nursery worker just keeps on going. The other night I had something like 10,000 seedlings (none in TP) with a "limit" of 1400. When I put 5000 in TPs the total reported in inventory went down as it should, but the nursery worker soon had it right back up. I started selling seedlings along with ale and they just kept coming. It is almost like @RedKetchup has inadvertently invented the perfect trade commodity: No raw materials, you never run out and you never need very many for your own citizens! Better than ale and firewood put together!

What could possibly go wrong?    go wrong?     go wrong?

The funny thing is that, even though the two max limits move in lock step, the logs seem to function completely separately. They go up to the limit and the foresters get the icon and stop working until the number drops below the limit, just like normal. The nursery workers seem to be the only ones to ignore the limit, and their profligacy doesn't seem to affect other workers--at the max limit level. Seedlings can fill up a barn, so you have to watch for that.

whats about to put all your limits to 999,999 ? :P

in fact, the limits are in same bags with the attendances limits..... the resources flags......

we CANT create New ones.

i tried to create a new limit called seedlings : didnt work and acting strange when you put all low limits everywhere, some says linked to wood.
i tried to create new resources flags calle Dairy : i gave all my dairy products a dairy flags (similar to grain), and when i asked merchant to bring on dairy: he sold nothing.
i tried to make a new attendance flag for Library : the counter stay at 0 and doesnt count at all.

this is whats happening Nilla.

I never had that many seedlings.  I traded them away.  I was always short on logs, too, but that was because I did not have enough foresters for my population.  It was a warm climate, thank goodness, although I am not certain whether the houses actually consumed less firewood just because the temperature never fell below freezing.  The crops were all harvested at the normal time even though it was still warm enough for some of them to continue growing, and some were not completely grown because I had lured the farmers away for labor during Early Spring.  Eventually they were headed for a food shortage because my experimental layout did not produce enough food and I was too busy playing with mods to notice in time.  Oops.   :-[  They are turned off right now, awaiting my interest again.

No big deal with the seedlings.

A question: Maybe I am just stupid but, I cannot delete gates and these wooden entrances. Is there a trick I havn´t discovered or a bug?

it s a bug 10 times mentionned :) it was or i let a road be created under it, or it was the removed. i discoivered it only after i allowed to have road constructed.

My impression is that the "bug" is in the game, not in @RedKetchup's mod. I've seen other mod makers mention it and tell users to be careful. There is something about one-square, road-capable structures that makes them immortal.

Thank you,

sorry i havn´t read all threads so carefully after I am back from my holidays. :-[

And @RedKetchup ; no worries, I like your mods even with these "bugleins" (I have lived many years in Germany, and in German you can put -lein (or -chen) at the end of a word to make it a small one).

I've played around with the greenhouse, and I really like this mod. It's a neat idea, this banished community discovering new types of trees and cultivating them for export.

I'm not 100% with its implementation, though. IMO the construction costs should be changed - I think 24 logs, 24 iron, and 48 firewood (if possible) would be better. Stone and greenhouses are incompatible. If you don't believe me, throw a rock at a greenhouse and see what happens.

I would also cut both the production rate and the price by a quarter - to 6 and 6. The way it is now, it's just a little money-making machine.

Many greenhouses have stone foundations.  Maybe not this one, but I have even seen greenhouses dug into the ground so that there are stone walls waist-high when you are inside.  It makes them easier to heat.  Drainage is a bitch, though.   ;D

Added a fix for the wood fences and the trellis. you cannot build a road under it anymore, but you will able to remove them as you want now.

it will only work for your future gates/trellis , not those which has been built previously with the non-remove bug.

So if I want people to be able to walk through the trellis I have to keep the old one? Personally I'm OK with the "bug" (just be careful when placing) because I like to use the trellis as an entrance to various places with a road through it. But I can understand why some wanted removability and @RedKetchup always aims to please.  :)

Hey Red, one thing that occurred to me recently about this mod, is that the toolbar could be reduced with the use of the F key, so that there could be single statue and eternal tree buttons, for example. Just a thought after seeing you had implemented that feature with your 2-story houses.

If you're using Windows, you should be able to open the .zip file like any other folder by double-clicking it.  You can then drag the .pkm file to your WinData folder.  You shouldn't need a separate program to open the .zip file.

If you're using something other than Windows, let us know what it is -- I'm sure someone will be able to help.

You have the same Windows version I do, and I don't have to use 7zip to install the zipped mods (although you can if you want).  I'm able to open zipped files like I described, treating them as any other folder in Windows Explorer.

Are you getting an error from trying to open the file, or is it a matter of not knowing how to open it?  If the first case, you might have a corrupted download -- re-downloading it might help.

I tried the old fashioned right mouse click and open and it said invalid zip, so I tired 7zip... WinRar never worked for me, again mostly my inability to understand programming easily...
will try redownloading see if that fixes it...

[Edit] Ok that worked now....

Occasionally the World of Banished download function doesn't work perfectly and I get an incomplete zip. A second try at the download usually works fine.

Is it possible/easy to sell surplus of power to the electric company in America, or is it only for your own domestic use?

Apparently we can essentially sell it to the power company, at least where we live.  That is, we get a credit against our consumption.  We do not get handed a check.

@RedKetchup

Is it possible to change trellis to look like decorative hedge doorways? To make them 1x3 size? That way roads coud still be built underneath. The original trellis could be used for parks or sth...

the trellis wont be return in a future update cause the 3D mesh is from world of warcraft and i dont have the permission to use them. i dont think i want to create a new one, it doesnt fit well the game (at least not with this look)

Is there any chance for you to make some of the the decorative items ghosted now too ?

Particularly the scarecrow, benches, and trellis ?

I'd love to be able to plunk the scarecrow down in the middle of a crop field but can't because it's not ghosted.... and the trellis would be great for running a road through it for bannies to walk under like an entryway into a fenced area... and being able to place the benches right in front of houses/buildings, etc.

Pretty please ?

;D
