Title: Competing Head to Head
Post by: eddieballgame on February 11, 2017, 04:48:55 AM
Recently a friend of mine & myself have been really enjoying this...sim. Simply a beautiful & well designed game. We also like to challenge each other by competing on the same maps. I have an idea for a scoring method to use when playing vs a friend or friends ( in a lan party scenario, for example ) & would like any input/ideas per this method.
Not really knowing what would be a good numerical value per the inhabitants, I have this thought for rating them.

Adults = 10 pts
Students = 5 pts
Children = 1 pt
Hearts & Stars = 10 pt ( half = 5, of course )

Decide how many years to play to, then add up your pts. This would be an easy/bare bones way to score a game for a "short" head to head challenge.
My main concern is the "correct" value to assign the folks as well as the Hearts & Stars. Thoughts?

There have bin a number of challenges on this website over the years. Take a look and get some inspiration (or try some of the challenges yourself, together with your friend). But as far as I remember never a system of points. I also don't think there is one way to do this "correct" as a way to make some"general point system". If you want to compete with your friend this way; I would suggest you set some points for one game. (why not your suggestion). The next game make something else.

Cool idea! For such a game I would choose a certain setup for both players with same mods, map, climate and start conditions. Then simply count your inhabitants after 100 years or so. And for a serious competition you can take a look at the Nordic mod. There is no cheating via debug option possible. And you also can create a win by economy. Who earned the most money.

Thanks for the input. Another thought on addressing those who like to play on a faster game speed setting. This could apply for a "lan party" short session. Simply divide your score by the number of years played. This would keep everything, somewhat, relative based on how fast one's years are progressing.
