Title: Unloading a trading port
Post by: Nilla on October 04, 2020, 08:14:34 AM
I wrote the other day i my blog that I think I've seen how traders unload what they carry out from the port in the barn closest to where they live and not in the closest barn to the port. During all my games I haven't seen this before but I might not have looked carefully enough.

Anyway, I decided to take another look and after a merchant had brought 4000 flax, I watched my 3 traders. Two of them live in the house with the blue X and one in the house with a red x.

The man in the blue house always put the flax in the close big barn (that's pretty new and far from full) but he didn't use the closest entrance, he used the entrance closest to his house, blue line. The woman in the same house started like her husband but after a few rounds it looked like something hit her; suddenly she seemed to feel sorry for the people out in the pasture area who never saw any flax and went twice to a quite far away barn where definitely no flax is needed. After that she followed the blue line until the port was empty of flax.

The woman in the red house passed the closest entrance of the big barn and put the flax in the small barn that's closer to her place.

So yes, I would say the general rule is that traders use the barn closest to their home but sometimes they do the weirdest thing and goods may land in a remote barn somewhere.

not sure we humans will ever totally understand the bannies. they do have minds of their own. many times each has its own personality and do things differently. 1 might idle at a cemetary while 1 might take a leak in the forest.

similar weird things happen with market vendors. with so many modders, there is a huge variety to how they act. some pick up goods close to the market, while another will go far off to get them.some seem to help other workers when they go idle more than others. some will use their wheel barrows to help laborers haul goods.

there are many mysteries untapped as to what the modders can do and control. new modders have helped accomplish some things that were thought impossable before. the randomness that LUKE built into the game makes it unique.

I don't know if this helps but you can see if any bannies are going to a specific place.
The Path Tool.
1. click on the toolbar. You get a cursor with a question mark.
2 click on any bannie.

Now you see the path that is calculated as the one they should follow from work to home.

@Nilla In which direction do the footprint arrows point at the big barn? There was a discussion about the arrows on the vanilla barn a couple of years ago and about which side of the barn the bannies will use to unload/load stuff. I remember reading it in a topic here somewhere. Might be connected to what you are seeing.

The arrows are showing into the barn on the side that these Bannis don´t use and out of the barn at the side they use. But I can´t imagine, it has anything to do with that. My theory is that they use the door closest to where they live. But of course as always in Banished, I´m not sure. But I will continue to keep an eye on it.
