Title: Gitch in Pairing??
Post by: CathyM on February 23, 2019, 11:58:50 AM
Hi, all -
I'm still very much a newbie, but I seem to be having a glitch in pairing up the young folks into new housing! I don't have it with the vanilla version, but right now, running umanHunter/fishing dock buff/more wood/more stone/new flora/apiary/RK colorful houses/RK decor on Windows 8.1, I'm getting 1) a really long delay in housing anyone and 2) lots of singles being sent to new housing, when there are several pairs of young people waiting! This, of course, doesn't help town growth! I did actually boot out a 37 yr old female and she moved in with a 45 yr old male... but both are likely past childbearing.  :D

Is anyone else seeing this problem, and is there anyway to either direct the game to pick the youngsters before the singles, or keep the singles out? For anything but wood houses, I'd have to destroy the house - what a waste of resources!!

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

I responded to your post in the old thread, but when I read this it sounds like you actually do not have too many houses. None of the mods you list sound like they ought to affect housing, but one never knows. I find that if, for some reason, there is a pause between the house being built and a new couple moving in, singles might take advantage--or, worse yet, an established pair split into two houses. Usually marking the house for destruction and then restoring it quickly solves the problem, but not always. Occasionally I've had to do the destroy/restore a couple of times to get the desired result.

when you build an house or a set of housing, always keep the windows open on your desktop and close them only after you did verified if the new couple is legit. there are always somewho decide to leave and/or can't stop to yell at each other....

destroy / reclaim as needed.

some of the move can be related to who walks by the house asit is being completed. say you build near a blacksmith that is ready to move out but yuou want a couple. if that couple is busy elsewhere, it could jump to the blacksmith. bannies do have minds of their own and sometimes no matter what they won't listen to us.

Wow! Thanks for the hints... so if I make enough houses so that there are extra, that might help the pairing come out better than if I am building "just in time" (as they say)? I have noticed bannies seem to do what they want quite often! I was just wondering if I had a particular glitch... this latest game seems to have a lot more of the singles moving in than my other games did... I will play with the destroy/reclaim option.. but doesn't that waste the inventory? I am probably compulsive, but I hate things going to waste...  :-\

Oops - I read the advice backwards - you're suggesting I DON"T have more houses than needed... but I'm already doing that - not building until I see a couple (or even two) in their teens... and still these middle aged guys keep showing up... I'm gonna try the destroy/reclaim to evict them and see what happens... Thanks, all!!

Okay... the eviction by destruct/reclaim worked - some singles living next door to each other paired up when I evicted one of them, and I got another guy to move in with a single lady with a kid... I just wish there weren't so many singles to start with! It's a headache to rotate through houses and check to see if folks are making productive pairs.  :-X At least there's a way to "nudge" them now.  :-\ Thanks again!

Unfortunately, it looks like you describe a bug I have had a few times. I have no idea why it appears. Before the last time, I´ve only seen it in very large games > 3000 inhabitants but in the game, I played before my latest, I had less than 1000 inhabitants. The "fake demolishing trick" works but in my experience, if this glitch starts, it will happen again. It´s better to start a new game.

Thanks, Nila! I did think that it happened much more in one game than in another... I have lots of game started... I have to write down the mods each uses because I can't recall... and I only have about 10 mods downloaded!  :-\

I don´t think that it primary has anything to do with the mods. It might have something to do with the map. Last time I saw this, there was also another known bug on that map; after the merchants have done their business they turn back the way they came, turned again at the edge of the map and passed the port again without stopping. I don´t know if you´ve seen this but it may happen in any game, also vanilla. I don´t know if it´s connected to the unwillingness to pair but maybe.

Since I´ve seen this several times in really large settlements, I thought that it might have something to do with computer capacity and processing the different steps of the program. As I said the last time I saw this, the game wasn´t huge but I played with RKEd and that´s a large mod. I haven´t seen any other signs of the computer "being tired" like the lags, you also get in large settlements, so I don´t really believe in this theory.

Interesting, Nilla... because I'm also getting a couple other glitches in this game - the trader's boat losing top detail (is just a blue shape with the guy sitting in it) while pulled alongside the dock, and two of my peach orchards have "vanished" - I see them but they can't be selected in any way, nor are they being worked (I've started another topic on that question). You're right about the singles glitch continuing - I'm getting all kinds of singles in housing and it's annoying, but also satisfying when sometimes I can kick them out and they pair up. But this town is growing so much slower than my other games! I'll likely give it up and try again on another map.
