Title: Irrelevant: Whoville: using Mini-Buildings
Post by: irrelevant on December 13, 2015, 11:06:27 AM
Not really intending to make this into a regular blog, but I've started a new town where I am mainly using @kralyerg Blackliquid Mini Buildings: Mini Foresters, Gatherers, Schools, Choppers, Fishermen, Herbalists, Workshops. I tried, and rejected, mini-hunters, as their circles are too small to be useful, and when I build normal hunters, I staff them with a single hunter anyway.

Also just using Farm Stands instead of regular markets. I wish there was a Mini Trade Post!

I just thought folks might be interested to see how a town can work using just these small producers in place of the regular ones. Except for the hunters, I find them quite useful, actually.

I have not collected any stone or iron using laborers, it has all been harvested with foresters. The Mini Foresters are very good for this.

The Mini-Workshop in particular is extremely useful in the early going, both coats and tools for a very small investment, in a tiny footprint.

Above, my hunters are producing far less than normal. Could this be related somehow to the sheer number of production circles in the circle of each hunting cabin?

I thought there was a mini-TP.   ???   The best one is the mini-Tailor/Blacksmith.     Even after getting coal, I kept the mini-Blacksmith to sell Iron Tools.
The mini-Forester is great in town next to the mini-chopper so the annoying "out of firewood' message doesn't pop up.

I love these mini buildings.    Want trees in your town... just add a mini-forester.      ;D

Sorry for the double post but couldn't add the picture in edit mode.
Great town name.   Isn't that the town that Grinch stole from :)

@purringcat Yes, every Who down in Whoville liked Christmas a lot.  :D

I guess I have an early version of small buildings.  :(

Year 13 - pop 41

The early years are the most interesting to me.

@kralyerg The small foresters set to cut and plant tend to strip their circles bare after a few years. The micro this necessitates is annoying; I keep needing to turn some off, others on. Maybe if the circles were ever so slightly larger.....

Planning three TPs for this map. The second will be in the cove at top right there, and the third will be on the stream in the upper north central area. Very small river on this map, which is good. I tend to overdo TPs (always having so much stuff to trade away), and then I get bored with the trading.

Nice to see. I tried these mini buildings, too, in a small game some time ago, but I didn't blog it. I did it much more extreme than you do it (are you surprised??)  ;)
I built only these mini buildings. They are really cute!

Opposite to you, I found the hunters extremely profitable for such a small area. Mine normally caught 2-3 deer, sometimes even 4. I made a screenshot of that, because I was very surprised. I made the same experience as you about the foresters.

There were some other things, that made me stop that game after maybe 20 years (my last screenshot is from year 19) and I don't think I played much more:

I only use these small tents. That's not very successful, if you want to expand. They only hold 3 persons, so you have to trick the game and that needs a lot of micromanagement. OK at the beginning, but as the settlement grows it's kind of boring

There were some quite annoying bugs, too: If you build woodcutters close to each other and also woodcutters and blacksmiths/tailors close, they sometimes refuse to produce. I didn't find out why. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not.

On some occasions the people couldn't get into their tents. They carried firewood (always firewood, never food) to the tent, didn't leave it there, but went back to the stockpile where they got it and than back to the tent again, over and over again until I demolished the tent.

I'm sorry you use an early version of the mod @irrelevant,  without some of the buildings. You should have used the small trading ports. They are really cute and hold very little goods. They are not easy to use. If you put too much into them, you cannot trade much, before they are full. I made one screenshot with 600 firewood, 100 hide coats, 500 mushrooms and 2000 venison. That was way too much, I think it was full to about 80%. So I started to split the trade; grain and fruit for mushrooms and venison in some ports and iron, wool, steel tools(?) and logs(?) for firewood and clothes in others (It was some time ago, so I don't exactly remember what I bought).

I'll also show you the cute little town hall. Like everything else it cost a few logs to build. You don't need any stones. That's a problem.  :-\ ;D I had to build stone roads and graveyards to get rid of some, that filled the stockpiles.

@Nilla really like your little town! I'm jealous, wish I'd had the updated version of the mod  :(

Which one's the town hall?

The town hall is on the second picture; the "building" with the tree-stump-stools. By the way; the school looks a bit the same, only smaller stumps and no roof. (right corner 3. picture). The small food markets are also very nice, with the colorful baskets. There are two of them on that picture.
