Nice. Thank you. One thing that's always bugged me is valuable resources left lying out in the rain and snow.

One minor suggestion for you to consider, @kid1293 : it would be good if you could start naming your mod files with "Kid" in front. So this one would be KidYardCover, for example. There are so many mods available now it makes it much easier to find stuff and also easier to remember which mod is which if the modder's name is in the mod file name.

ELEMENTAL,with the new community button that is an awesome idea for all modders. it would give us a way to organize our mod orders too.

@elemental - excellent idea, I will do that and probably change my old mods
when 1.0.7 goes live. I still have some flags to set and maybe combine or split up
my mods in a better way.

Thank you, they look fabulous :)
If (only if) you do an update, can you please include an F-variant with the roof from the Alotofseeds / the pretty house in the Work Place mod.  Not sure if you can use the same roof texture, but it would be lovely, matching storage covers.
It's only an "if" you do decide to do more, I am happy with what you have now :D

Well, you get this one for a prize!
I have renamed EVERYTHING in the mod. Now all starts with Kid....
Not for being a big egoist, but for easier sorting and overview.
That means it is now a new mod. So -

Remove any coverings.
Save and remove old mod.
Install this new version and rebuild.
This should work and well... they are free to build so it's a win-win.

uploaded in a few

Easter is over, but enjoy your new roof! :)

It's in download now.

@QueryEverything , you and @Abandoned have earned the rank of 'advisors' :)
for all those ideas and improvements. That means I will consult you in the future
when making an upgrade (so everything is OK from the beginning).

...yeah, yeah, you too @brads3 ...  ;)

Hey Kid!

Great Idea with the names of the files...   but - I've a tiny request,  could you let us know the original file name on this so we can delete the correct old file?   (I know I should know which file this replaces, but when you get a certain age, well.....  I forgot what I was talking about)  Oh yeah, filenames!  just a request!   :P

Top row middle (brown fading to grey) - that's an interesting texture...  :)

Good set!

Post by: kid1293 on April 18, 2017, 10:15:08 AM
@adelegarland - I will only just add Kid in front of all the old filenames.
If I combine or split mods I will tell which mods are affected.

@Paeng - First it was the only narrow seamless texture I found. Now I make my own.
Maybe too bright at the edge...

My little starter area, I removed the large stockpile as soon as I could and added in the market.

I love the coverings, and the log building :)

The covering has a different brick to the row houses manufacturing building, but it doesn't look out of place. (but, as a little note, the odd roadtile does, the blacksmith has 2 but the tailor only 1, which is decoratively speaking, frustrating!!!)  :)
*cough*hint*cough*

Really loving these little addons :D  Thank you!!

I really like yours @kralyerg I really like that they are custom width & length, they most definitely have their place!! :D

And you can tell I'm not too much of a city builder, lol.  I'm not Paeng or the other talented screenshot artists :D

I always wondered why the vanilla game had the stock piles wide open and exposed to the environment, it never made any sense to me.... wet wood is useless !

Necora's pine set stockpile building was a great solution to those ugly looking stock piles, I use them in every town now.

And now we have these great looking covers as an option too !

Yay !

*happy dance*

;D

Is it too soon to ask for a Christmas wish ?

I'd love to see simple ghosted covers like these ranging in all kinds of different sizes to use over lots of other things.... a little 1x1 cover could be used over your tiny workplace blacksmith, beekeeper, dairy maker, storage crates, tiny chopper, etc etc.

Covers everywhere !

*snicker snicker*

I love the idea of covers for my workplaces. Since there are many different
things in that mod I can just as well add some covers.
(Let's talk about roof textures later)  ;)

Other than that - I guess I agree with @brads3 - fairy lights ?  ::)

edit - thinking about more covers in this mod too.  3x3?

Well, it is a cover for my workplaces (actually 3 roof textures with f-key)
and it will be in next update.

I really like those 1x1 ones :)  What about a 1 x 3 as well, to run down the side of the house (which is x3), and for those that have them running at 90o from the side, a 1x4, or at the very least a 1x3+1x1 next to it, so, if possible could the covers please be seamless for joining?

What about a "Kid's Storage for All" mod, where the covers, the log storage could also be included, as well as the deco barrels, and the ghosted storage barrels.    And then the log storage could also come in the same F-texture options as these ones too ...  (Ok, maybe not, lol, but I had to sneak that in and ask, hehehe).

I was thinking (and not to change your idea, this is an outloud thought), what about a outdoors covering, like above, but the roof of it has the same incline as the roof from the workplace houses, that way they would look like they were an awning, made for the house.  Although, then for other uses, it may not work as well, but it was just an idea, little mini awnings :D

Ok, I haven't had caffeine so I need to step away from the keyboard, now I'm going around in circles, and inadvertently asking for things, that I probably shouldn't.  :D

{edit}  original:  1x3+1x4; what I meant: 1x3+1x1  = for a 1 x 4 length to cover 4 of the workstations at a time.

Well, I have to admit they do look a little scrawny on their own.  Maybe adding a post on both of the front corners would make it look less "scrawny" ?

*shrug*

But even still, I think those would work great as simple little 1x1's.  And because of the shape of the roofline on those it would be easy to add them next to each other in the game to make a longer cover (1x2, 1x3, 1x4, etc)... the roof line would blend nicely from one to the next without it looking like a bunch of different roofs standing next to each other.

Title: Re: Kid - Yard Cover V1.1
Post by: kid1293 on April 19, 2017, 10:42:36 PM
I'm re-doing them now, but haven't decided if I will have only a 1x1
and make a seamless texture (for stacking them)
or if I should make 1x1 2x1 3x1 4x1 (but not 4 seamless textures!)

One more - the workplace tables have to be moved alittle bit forward
that make space for posts. It shouldn't make much difference and it
should :) be compatible.

I think I go for 1x1 seamless and you are free to choose a 4th roof texture.  ;)
I decided to use the original Alotofseeds trader texture (yellow one with a happy roof)
as a 4th texture on house, cover, storage and fence

I loaded the Yard Cover today - in the modlist it shows green and I get a warning, something like

"Mod version is out of date - Kid Yard Cover - ver. 0 (0.0.0)"

Though ingame it shows in the CT and seems to work fine... do I have an old version, or what could be the "problem"?

Bah, skip that - I mistook the new logbarn for it... seems the yard cover does not show at all in my game...

yes, check the file size if it says vers 0 under the mod list. watch when you re doenload it also. had this happen recently to 2 different mods.1 i did get the next day,the other i re-tried for 2 days and needed a different link.your computer will stop and say download complete before the file is finished. i normally was getting the kick out after 50%+ others say as low as 35%.no idea why all of a sudden either.

if your mod is bigger than a certain amount of MB .. i suggest to always upload it on a cloud provider (like google drive) instead the forum storage. sorry if our web provider isnt that trustable.

And will continue to do so. I like the idea of an overstuffed shed in the backyard. :)

Yeah, I don't get it - in the "good old days" we would get notified if a DL was incomplete... now a 50% DL gets waived through as "complete"? Which part of the system is responsible?  >:(

I always blame Windows for bad things that happen. :)
But I don't know if this occurs in Linux too.
Then it's on the forum's side completely.

Well, well. @Abandoned asked for a workplace barn in another thread.
I wasn't aware of that. Been busy all day modelling and coding.
Happy, happy. A barn!

It is a simple model but...
All are 2 deep and comes in 1, 2 or 3 wide.
I have set flags for:
General - like the usual barn plus inedible
Food - edible, fruit, vegetables, protein and grain
Blacksmith - tools, logs, iron and coal
Tailor - Clothes and textiles
Firewood - WoodFuel
And they fit nicely under Yard roof!

...did I mention all have 3 f-key wall textures?

Yeah, I use Google Drive too for mods bigger then about 4 a 5 megs because it seems some people have trouble downloading some bigger files.
Instead of just uploading the PKM I first RAR them. That saves quite some megs too and I can include the String Table in the RAR so everything is in one place.

Some folks can only download a portion of the file and are missing some bytes.

It seem to be with the some bigger files is my understanding.

@kid1293 glad the download problem was not with the whole WOB site, I thought that was the case since I had trouble uploaded the other day.  I also had problems before getting drop box to start downloading, message would say it is not responding.  So I will download and add to currant map.  thank you
Title: Re: Kid - Yard Cover V1.2
Post by: Abandoned on April 28, 2017, 06:27:57 AM
@kid1293 okay, I added the stone houses and yard cover mods to the currant map.  I did not place anything yet but look good and easy enough to find under community tool bar icon (red conflict warnings in mod list, no problem there). I now have the bigger status info box showing new flags but that's okay, it has @RedKetchup minimize button on it (thanks again Red) so good opportunity to start getting use to that.  :)  One yard cover comment already, the storage containers have f-key wood to match alotofseed trading post but the coverings do not have the happy roof, that would be nice. The workplace match that @QueryEverything suggested looks nice with house and will probably be the first one I build (thanks Query).  The sizes are very nice and versatile.  Planning to post latest chapter and get some quality playtime in after going grocery shopping.  :)

@kid1293 so far, no problem with coverings or storage units.  The ones I have tried so far are all being used and storing only the specified items they should be storing.  Blend in nicely where ever they are place.  :)

edit correction , at first the food storage unit was not storing the pre-sorted vegetables, laborers went right past it.  I built the workplace storage which I knew from experience stored them.  Now I see there are vegetables in that coverings storage unit.

just a thought, the garden storage shed from vegetable mod is red, which looks great with red barn and other red buildings but looks a little out of place on its own.  Would it be possible when you have a chance to make an f-variable for it, maybe wood.

I agree to that @Abandoned - but when I made it someone was so
into red walls and white trim, I just followed and made it red.

...more neutral color on to-do-list.

@kid1293 along with some other coloured storage shed for the Veg mod (which I think is an excellent idea to suit the new buildings you have been doing), may I please add to the request list:

1)  Ghosted 2 x 2 storage to fit into the Fenceless Farms "middle hole", I've written & posted about it here:
http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?topic=1546.msg32533#msg32533

2)  I would also like to see the shelter with a 2x2 or 2 x 4 version please, which I wrote about here:
http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?topic=1500.msg32527#msg32527

Both additions would look cosmetically, and add a little more 'to the scene'.

Neither are deal breakers, just ideas and I posted a few screenshots for each to show you how it would 'sort of' look :)
Thank you.

@I am trying to see which 1.0.7 mods are okay with 1.0.6.  If I update my game it will be after we see what Luke does, he is taking awhile.  Is that good?   So far I marked in my notes not to build town hall in your stone house set, it froze up, tiny town hall looks great with set.  The rest of the pieces worked fine, really nice looking houses.

@RedKetchup that would be good, and it will be interesting to see what Luke includes in update.

@kid1293 went back to Newport and built the stone house addon small spa.  It looks really good, added a few of your deco plants. It will look nice with the deep forest mod too.  I really like the color of the water, it would be nice to have that color carried over to a house, the color of the roof of the forest outpost church too.  Not that I'm making a suggestion, just saying I like those colors.  :)

@Paeng exactly, I'm with you on this one.  When there are so many different themed buildings, and ways of designing settlements, why would you want to stop at 1 set of barns, and be limited by that?  Where is the harm in diversity?
Spread the joy, why not?  :)

@brads3 I explained to you in another thread, that Slink does have a good set, but it's no longer as usable as it initially was, it also has a larger footprint than I personally like.

@Abandoned & Brads - I suggested the small market for Kid's mods, to suit his theme, it's not a deal breaker for me because there are other markets out there, I just happen to also like Kid's themes, and the markets to go with them. ;)
It's not a big deal.  People (like me) enjoy diversity :)  (as above)
And I did have a kickarse idea to match Kid's mods, so, why not have something new, if people are inspired?

@Abandoned liked my many roofs and @QueryEverything wanted it special.
I plan to put it here in Yard Covers. It's a Covered Shed.
It will have Yard Cover's 7 roofs and different walls.

There are now -  General / Pasture / Workplace storage.
It's really only 1x1+road but with an overhang all around.

I hope it gives ideas for added decorations and new workplaces.

@elemental does that apply to you and @QueryEverything ? Other people's opinions matter also.  This mod was made because I suggested it and if you don't like it don't use it.  Why don't you two make you own mods instead of expecting every mod be changed to your liking or go back to cc.

That's all fine and dandy except for the fact all of these little afterthought additions to the main mods causes the dreaded "save game" problems.... meaning that every time there's some little addition to a mod, then your saved towns are no longer any good and you have to start over from scratch.

It makes more sense to have these little add-ons as separate mods so that they can get added without wrecking/crashing saved towns.

I'm with Abandoned on this one...

For simplicity's sake just keep these things as separate little mods because let's face it, kid could come up with a bazillion great little add-on ideas for all of his main mods over a period of severals weeks/months/years and if he keeps adding/updating his main mods with all these great little things he's coming up with, none of us are ever going to be able to play out a game to its full potential due to having to start from scratch again and again and again.

This way kid can make all kinds of awesome additions that he wants to throw out there for us to play and we all get to download them adding them into our towns to our heart's content without worrying about save game compatability...

In a nutshell:  I (for one) don't want to have to start new games constantly because I can't resist all these fantastic little additions the modders are coming up with !

I want them all dammit !!

I don't mind the worn look, I use it a lot around the city centre, but I have become quite partial for the pasture area to use the brown straw (??) one.  Check image - BUT - that's not to say I won't love this, because it's the core one I do use anyway in the city - but, for a regional area, perhaps the straw?
(No, I won't ask you to do all of them, I'm grateful enough.  :)

I'm all for revamping texture quality for ingame usage, I do like optimized textures, but where a good balance can be found, I support it.
It is ridiculously hard to find that happy medium, and if you find it in a larger texture for the storage, then I'm ok with that.

It's entirely up to you how you want to release it - I think it makes sense that it is with the Yard Covers, after all, it is a Yard Cover, personally, I'm happy for it to be here in the YC mod, because it just makes sense.
Alternatively, you could add it to the Bits n Pieces mod as a companion to the fenceless pastures, which is what inspired this in the first place ;)

Especially given that you only have to maintain 1 mod, and as you are inspired to add things, or change textures etc, you only have to do 1 mod - not 2, it makes logic a winner :)

We have overcast weather today, you can have your sun (originally wrote as sin, lol) I will keep the clouds, and as such my Bannies dry haha!  :)

And any given day I would agree with you, if it was tweaks to existing things - then wait for a larger push out from the modder to then update, unless it's a game changer, or there is a massive bug in the code, then waiting 1 or 2 updates before downloading makes sense.

From what I understand @ancientmuse as long as an existing building in game has not been changed, then a new mod version shouldn't break a current map.  In this case, adding a new shelter to the mod - won't break the map because it has never been built in game.
Now, had it been a change to an existing cover (say the 5 tile became a 5x3), or a file had a new name etc - then there are problems, but (and I'm welcome to be proven wrong by the modders ;) ) in this case, I don't think the addition of a building and no other changes, would cause any problems.

But, your sentiment is understood :)  If, there were crash worthy changes :)
And, hopefully this comes across correctly, for those that are worried that it's a game changer, waiting for a new map, or waiting to try it - it's ok to wait :)  Because it's not a bug fix, I wouldn't see it as urgent, if you are worried about your map stability, so holding off won't be a problem - unless, of course you really want it "now", in which case, save it all, and roll that dice ;)  haha.  (not mean spirited, I hope it came across that way )

I have saved and deleted too many maps to count ...  new mods = new adventures :D

@Abandoned the language you used earlier directed at Query was just plain rude. It's Kid's mod. He did the work, so he should be able to update it any which way he pleases. So to quote you, if you don't like that then you are also welcome to make your own mods.

As far as save game issues go... nobody is forcing anybody to update straight away. Nobody is forced to update at all. So in the particular case there are no issues with saved games.

All of us have many ideas and wishes - I'd rather see all of them collected in fresh threads, away from WiPs, with time for the modders to sort through them, get fresh inspiration, start them off on other lines of development, whenever they feel like it, and where they feel it fits in.

Piling all sorts of new things into running developments --make this 12 inches higher, that 6 inches lower, but with three new textures, compatible with this but not with that, oh and there should be a whole range of xxx added, and and and-- it all gets kinda hectic once in a while. ancientmuse, i recommend doing similar to what i did. play as long as you dare with any maps you have before upgrading either to the 1.07 or the individual mods. then load what you want and play from there. we can go back and upload more once modders are caught up and make fixes to get rid of bugz. when you do download you will be downloading more at a time this way. don't feel you have to keep pace with everything or anyone else. i am waiting for the pine update and i might hold until BT's new NAT DIV upgrade as well.

i agree with you. that is why i say i am surprised by how many new mods there has been in the last few months. i did expect us players to step back and let the modders work with all the changes. the limit flag changes was 1 but at the same time we had the community icon find also. i do not envy them at all. they do put up with so much. i notice TOM did step away. he came and gave us an updated NORTH mod but that was for 1.06. i wonder how many beers KID has to have nowdays so he doesn't throw us and his comp out  a window.

@kid1293  after more thought I think you are correct that the new weird shed belongs with the coverings mod rather than anywhere else since it has the same roofs and walls. However I do think it might be best to wait, until we find out what other changes may need to be made when Luke updates.   :)

Not only that, @Abandoned .
I am not sure how to go further with this.
Should I have sheds all over with oversized roofs?
1x1 2x2 3x3 10x12  ???

I leave it for now. If there is anything - it is a 1x1 roof only
with all textures and some nice touch to it. I'm stuck with
my old design, but maybe something, someday will show me
how to make a nice cover that can be used 'anywhere'.

It almost has to be a lean-to which fits most buildings.
And it has to be able to stand free.
And... it has to be stackable without glitches.

But I agree, not now.

@kid1293 the covers and the matching sheds are just fine as is, the sizes and textures are great.  In future if you come up with a new design, I would think to make it a new version altogether instead of an update so this original remains as is.  It's a really great set.  :)

Oops @kid1293  That gave me an idea ...  what about shop front awnings (think a walk through Paris), with the brace in the diagonal space between the vertical brace, and the horizontal raised section.  There you would need something to weight it down on the base, so, either a 'foot' to the vertical beam, or something similar.

It would then be able to fit up against buildings, and storage barns etc (in fact, do 2 versions - 1 a 'floating awning, so that there is no ground requirements, slips up against, and is 'attached' to the building & 2, the ground built version).  You could do a whole new theme with fabrics or as the solid 7 you now have and would certainly fit the existing theme of yard coverings.  Especially if the same roofs are being used.

And you know I'd never say no to new sheds :D  hahaha ;)  Or the 1x1 idea ;)

I was just thinking that this new one you made yesterday (day before) would also look good in the middle of some fields. not just pastures.  I'm going to work on that today.  :)
I've been playing around with a 10x10 & 10x20 pasture layout, will post some pics with how it turned out later :)

I did a quick look on turbosquid to see if they had any I thought of :)
As I've often said, I'd be happy to sponsor a project if any of these inspired you.  Hubby has spent enough there over the years, I may as well too :)

These wrought iron ones are sweet, I adore them - but, what would they go on??  And perhaps need a new .pkm "the ornate" ;)  maybe ;)  Or where they fit, is where they are meant to be :)

I'm thinking something a bit more upmarket, something that may fit in with a RowHouse building.
But, then if used with wood textures, they could also be used out in the forestry.

Maybe a lean-to of some form, for food or luxuries??

Thanks for the ideas!
The second link looks nice. Just fastened to the wall and 'universal'.
It's all in the choice of fabric if you want them modern or medieval.

Don't think I just rush through this and forget.
I think it is a good idea, but as I said - not now.

I agree, the iron wrought ones look really classy.
I can think of them as a permanent part of a building, over a balcony or
something. Sadly they get lost in the game with that small scale.

Just a small update with a roof from my Swamp mod.
Makes sense to cover up your stockpile in the wet swamp.
