Title: Abandoned - Summer Haven Hideaway - Story 56
Post by: Abandoned on May 31, 2020, 10:28:47 AM
Intro

This is the 56th story in the Smallville Series and it tells the tale of what became of the people seen fleeing into the forest after their ship wrecked in the previous story.  They were being chased by pirates and were unable to navigate the winding river.  When their ship crashed into the shore and capsized they escaped into the forest.  The incident was witnessed by the residents of Darkstone Coven (story 55) in year 55 SVT.  The Summer Haven Hideaway therefore is in the forest north of Darkstone Castle, not far from Monkstown and Haunted Hollow.

Yes, weary traveler, it was indeed scary being pursued by pirates, even more so when our ship capsized.  It was summer and the trees well hid the town across the river.  Our only thought was to escape the pirates, so we fled into the forest where we could safely hideaway.

Chapter 1

We had been in Riverview Resort while our house in Riverboat Junction was being renovated.  If you've ever been there, weary traveler, you know that the Junction consists of row upon row of wood and thatch stacked worker houses and warehouses. At the time, there was unrest and sickness due to overcrowding.  The older housing units were in a sad state of disrepair with broken floors, stairs, and windows.  The poor living conditions and long hours of work had residents migrating.  Major renovations were being done to prevent more loss of workers. We had our doubts about returning until we realized we were to have our first child, we had family back in the Junction.   My name is Jamilla and my husband is Rustice, Jamie and Rusty for short.

There was trouble with pirates at the time and it took awhile but we finally managed to book passage on a merchant ship headed to Riverboat Junction.  The captain and his first mate were at Riverview Resort visiting with their families before taking them back to the Junction.  We set sail but soon veered off the main river to escape from pirates but their ship did not give up the pursuit.  We managed to stay ahead but the captain lost control in the swift currant of a winding river.  We hit the shore and capsized with the pirates close behind.  We fled into the forest, we did not see the town across the river.

There were 6 of us plus 3 children, the captain's wife was expecting her second child.  It was late summer before we came upon a small farmstead.  Two farm families arrived there in early spring, they left their farms near the main river to the east after being raided by pirates numerous times.  There were 2 families, 4 adults with 7 children.  One family had a farmyard with an apple tree, wheat, beans, and a few chickens.  They were also chopping firewood.  They had a small fenced area next to the house with milk cows.  The second farm family also had chickens and were growing berries, corn, cabbage, and potatoes.  There was a large school building and a big barn.  They made us welcome and gladly shared all that they had with us.

Chapter 2

Rusty and I build our house by the lake.  He would take over fishing from the pier later on.  There were no school age children yet but I would watch the younger ones at the schoolhouse while parents were busy with other tasks.  I was still recovering from the birth of our daughter, Harmainey.  The older children had fun painting roof shingles with a water color dye made from wild onion peels.  Pine needles were used to make green roofs for a small shed and a house for the 1st mate and his family east of town.   After Riverboat Junction we were all impressed with the colorful roofs.  The captain built a tree house farther east by the river.  He wanted to keep watch for a passing riverboat in order to send word to Riverboat Junction.  We would also like to send a message to let our families know we were alive and well.  They must be wondering what happened to us after we sent a message that we had booked passage and would be headed home soon.

Having traveled the main rivers in this area in the past, the captain knew this smaller river was little traveled.  The entranceway, not far from Haunted Hollow, was very narrow and almost hidden from view, only small boats could make it through.  We were well hidden away from pirates.  The captain did not know what he was going to do, he could not afford another merchant ship.  Rusty, whose work in the Junction was boat building, could only build riverboats and fishing boats and possibly  houseboats like we saw in Riverview.  A merchant ship would be beyond his skills.  Both farm families agreed we were welcome to stay here as long as we wanted.  We would have a say in town management.  We agreed to name the town, Summer Haven Hideaway.  They expected a few more families from the main river farmsteads to be joining us.

Production totals were good at the end of year 1 and there was a nice variety of foods on hand.  In spring of year 2, some of the other families joined us.

Another good story.

Where did the little fishing dock come from?

Oh sorry I missed that on the Info page.   Summer Haven is being tested and will be released for summer.  Forest Haven was released first and More Havens was released in Spring. See Intro mod note.  Summer Haven includes Kid's Work Place with a milk cow added for a back yard work place. See Yr 1 Family Farm 1 screenshot for view of cow.

Chapter 3

It took all of year 2 to provide housing for the new families.  There were 8 adults and 3 children.   Construction of the town hall that had already begun was completed first.  A house was built near the hunter, and a forester work station was built nearby.  The family would later add a butcher table to their yard to make venison sausages.  A workers house was built by the stockpile and the family would make tools and hide coats in their front yard.  Another house was built by the hunter, that family would gather wild foods in the area.  Two houses were built for the single girls, both age 12.  One of them planted a small farmyard with corn, tomatoes, and peppers while her house was being built.  She got baby chicks from the farmyard next to hers.

In spring of year 3, 18 evacuees arrived from their village on the main river.  They had been raided by pirates several times but the last time was the last time.  One man was killed and another seriously injured when they tried to stop the pirates from abducting one of the young girls.  The whole village packed up what little they could carry, gathered together their children, chickens, and their few sheep, and headed inland.  They would be more than happy to make our Summer Hideaway their home.  We only wished they had more single young men.

Captain Chestel said if the pirate situation had worsened that much on the main river, there was a chance that river boatmen would come down this river instead.  We all agreed we should construct a trading post as well as the new houses for the villagers.  Our folks back in Riverboat Junction must by now have given up hope of seeing or hearing from us again.

Chapter 4

A house was built first for the family with the sheep.  Wool clothes would be welcomed.  We did not get snow but our winter temperatures did drop to the low 40Fs with a cold rain that chilled to the bone.  A second house was built by the newly planted wheat field, and a third house across the field from them.  That farm family would grow corn, berries, and potatoes, raise chickens and cut firewood.  A tree house was built for the third family, they wanted a view of the lake.  A small workers house was built for the family with a 14 year old son, and another was built for a single 9 year old girl.  So many children missed going to school.

With so many new houses we were short of firewood by spring of year 4.  There were plenty of downed branches to collect until a backyard woodcutter could be set up.   The trading post on the river was completed by early spring.  I was eager to get word to our families that we were alive and well and that they now had 3 grandchildren.  I spent my time tending the children and fishing from the pier by our house.  I thought the fishing might be better over on the river.  Rusty said it would probably be better in the deeper water of the lake.

The family in the tree house by the lake planted peach trees soon after they arrived last year, this spring they set up beehive boxes and by summer we had the first fresh summer peaches.  They were delicious and a real summer treat.

The first river boatman arrived that summer.  Devonnie, the resource merchant, assured us that more riverboats would be coming this way.  The inlet to this river was narrow and well hidden, pirates would not be able to follow.  The families who came from the main river area were very happy to hear they no longer had to worry about pirate raids.  Devonnie said that Riverboat Junction was in need of stone with all the renovations being done and canals being built elsewhere, but almost anything we had to trade would be accepted.  A lot of merchandise was being thrown overboard by river boatmen trying to outrun the pirates.  He would remind other boatmen about this river and he would be sure to deliver our messages to our families back in Riverboat Junction.

 :) No problem  :)

Chapter 5

By early spring of year 5 a boat jetty was built and Rusty, with the help of Glorin, built a small fishing boat.  Glorin was the 14-year-old evacuee who recently moved into the house there by the lake with single girl, Beverly.  They were both 15 and just had their first child.  Glorin got permission to dig for earthworm in a few of the farmyard, and soon had a sign up letting others know he had Live Bait if they wanted to go fishing.  Rusty was the first to take the boat out to the center of the lake and soon returned with several very large fish.  I'd never seen one of these fish before but Rusty had.  They were slaughterfish, good to eat but bad to have in the water.  They had sharp teeth and would attack anything in the water that moved, they were called slaughterfish for a reason.  He and Glorin erected No Swimming signs all around the lake.  Everyone was warned to stay out of the other lake over by the river until it was checked too.  The children were disappointed they could not play in the water.

I  caught more fish from the pier than was caught from the boat but I had a bit of a head start while the fishing pier and boat were being built.  The fish from the boat were a lot bigger.  Our food supply was also a lot bigger now and our storage units were near capacity.  Several small sheds were built around town where they were needed most.

A livestock merchant stopped at the trading post with cattle but we were doing okay with our milk cows, sheep, and chickens.  He confirmed there was a need for stone.  Riverboat Junction had established a quarry town called Red Rock to the southwest but as of yet supply could not keep up with demand.  We began moving stone to the trading post to have on hand if there was anything we needed to trade for.  Avernestie, the tailor, said she often had to wait for leather for the warm coats.  She made linen clothes from flax for summer wear while she waiting.  We added another hunter to our workforce.

Chapter 6

Our second lake was about the same size as the first, and just as beautiful.  Rusty and Glorin agreed that if one lake had slaughterfish, it was safe to assume that other one did also.  We would not know for sure until some deep water fishing could be done and as of now our need for food and more fish did not justify building a pier, and fishing boat.  Even though the second lake was some distance from town, No Swimming signs were posted around that lake too.

A family of 3 arrived by houseboat from Riverview Resort.  After their stay there, they really did not want to return to Riverboat Junction.  We invited them to stay with us and they accepted our offer.  A house was built for them not far from their houseboat.

The weather had warmed and the children needed a distraction from the fact they could not play in the water.  A slide and a sand box with water was built in the school yard.  Two sailboats were built so families could spend some time on the water rather than in it.  A small gazebo proved to be very popular.  It was a pleasant walk to the small jetty that lead to the gazebo except when fall and winter came.  It was a long walk on that short pier when the cold northwest wind began to blow.  Closer to home a small park was built by the town hall.  On sunny winter days it was quite crowded.

Chapter 7

At the beginning of year 7 our Summer Hideaway had a population of 73, 37 adults, 10 students, and 26 young children.  We had 17 homes for 21 families but new houses were not needed quite yet for the adult children.  Our population was happy and healthy.

A food merchant brought information from our families back in Riverboat Junction.  They were overjoyed to learn we were alive and well and delighted to learn of their new grandchildren.  We had new nieces and nephews as well.  Everyone sent their love.  The river boatman also made us realize how many more foods we could raise and how many more food products we could produce.  He confirmed the need for stone.  We would have a lot of stone to trade but were concerned about the weight and wear and tear on our wooden dock.  We began constructing another trading post with a sturdy stone dock.

That year we spent some time studying our inventory records.  There were foods we could use more of but overall we had a good supply and good variety.  That would change in the future as our population continued to grow.  There was plenty of fish to be had in the river and the second lake.  There was land there to the south for homes and small farmyards.  Further west to the south was a large valley suitable for crop fields and livestock.  There was plenty of room for houses and farmyards  around the lake but to the north the land was pretty rocky.  There was plenty of surface iron and stone in all areas.

The 2nd trading post was completed and Latrinidad, the seed merchant, arrived.  He had a lot of seeds and said he would gladly take stone in exchange.  He would be back often.  We were glad to hear that, we had a lot of stone.  We were concerned though with the stress and strain gathering so much heavy stone would have on the laborers.  We used some of the stone to construct a cemetery and began thinking of ways we could encourage workers to take more breaks at the town park.

Chapter 8

The first thing we did was build a farmer's market next to the park.  One stall for meat and fish, and another stall for fruits and vegetables.  Next we set up a brewing barrel to brew root beer, a summer treat for young and old alike.  Young Nell, who just turned 14, wanted a worker's house built where he could gather roots and wild foods from his back yard.  He did not want us to run short of roots, the root beer was already quite popular.  Our food supply remained high so a small barn was built halfway between the new gatherer and the new markets.

We were amazed at the trade value we could get for our stone, but we did not need more seeds at the present time.  We had enough saved seeds for more small farmyards and we had  enough corn and wheat seeds for crop fields.  The seed trader said that barrels of seeds would keep for several years until we were ready to plant if the barrels were kept out of the sun and the rain.  We thought perhaps we should start buying seeds.  Summer Hideaway had several 13 and 14 year olds who would be wanting homes and families of their own soon, our population would increase.  We would collect more stone to trade.

We had yet to see a general goods merchant to trade for leather but we were managing to produce enough linen clothes from the wild flax that was gathered, and warm coats with what wool and leather we had.  One of the river boatmen told us that there was a man named Savidan who had begun mapping the whole world, river travel and trade should improve once those maps became more widely available.

Well @Abandoned I guess since Savidan began mapping the whole world you may be sending out a small search party to find a new valley to began a new settlement.

Really like your stories, rather art work. Got some questions though;

Do you plan you little areas first then lay in the building and decorations?
or
Do you find a building, lay it where it looks good and then decorate as you go?
or
Do you pick your mods first, picking out the items you plan on using and what you may be using with them, then begin the planning with just those in mind.

No matter what I try I can never get any of my little villages to look anywhere as good as yours do.
I am just an old fuddy-duddy that flunked finger painting in kindergarten, maybe that is why.

;D flunked finger painting  ;D  Have you seen my first world map I did in story #10?  ;D  WOB member @Savidan made me a better one back in story #20 that I have been adding to ever since.  There is still room for more stories  :)

To answer your questions. Yes, I have at least 1 main mod (most often a new mod of Kid's I am testing) that I then choose other mods to support it and the map location I have in mind.  I need to be sure I have all the buildings I want and that the town will need, and they are built in order as needed.  I do pick and choose carefully and limit mods  ;D or I would have every town start looking the same with Old Town vanilla, Kid Tiny mod, and farmyards.  I often have areas in mind for farms or forester or production area but is more often done as I go along and sometimes changed. Sometimes the story decides.  More often than not I build here and there, especially houses.  I do more decorating if the featured mod includes deco and then usually done as I go along unless seasonal.  The town is build as the story says and shows, I play a year and take screenshots as I go, then name screenshots so they stay in order, and then write the chapter.  I am glad you enjoy my stories  :)

Chapter 9

In spring of year 9 we were surprised when 10 families arrived, 14 adults and 1 child, although some of the adults were little more than children.  They were swamp dwellers who had fled from what they claim was a giant frog invasion.  They lived on the western edge of Summerset Swamp so, no, they did not see any of these giant killer frogs themselves but they were not going to stay there and wait for them to show up.  They crossed the main river and came inland.

We weren't sure we believed their tall tale but we invited them to stay with us and even humored them by checking around for frogs.  All that was found was some rather large mud crabs by the second lake but no frogs.  We began immediately to build houses.  Their story about a giant frog invasion was confirmed by 2 riverboat men who had horrifying stories to tell.  Many swamp dwellers were killed and maimed, whole towns were wiped out, and several river boatmen were still missing.  We thought it was pirates delaying their arrival.  We were told there were pirates doing a  lot to help the survivors in the swamp.

The swamp dwellers were impressed with our tree topper houses so several were built on the other side of the lake.  A fishing pier and hunting tower was built there also.  One family wanted a worker house by the docks to make tools for trade.  The river boatmen said the swamp survivors needed many things but especially clothes and tools.  Our new families wanted to do what they could to help them.  By early winter all the new families were housed.

Chapter 10

We were concerned that the newcomers on the other side of the lake would not have easy access to a variety of foods so we concentrated on gathering wild foods in that area to fill their storage sheds.  They were impressed with the variety of foods that we could grow and they wanted to learn.  Food growing in the swamp was very difficult and variety was limited.  They relied on the river boatmen, one in particular who always left extras for them.  The first farmyard with berries, corn, potatoes, and chickens soon appeared on that side of the lake.  Another was planted with berries, corn, cabbage, potatoes, and also had chickens.

Another concern was education but most of their young people already missed school.  It would be a few years before a school was needed on that side of town.  Our school still had room and it would be a few years before it was filled to capacity.  The youngest of our 3 children would be starting school soon.  Likewise it would be a year or 2 before we needed more housing.

We had a nice stockpile of stone at the trading post and were planning to start buying large quantities of seeds.  The surface stone was now some distance away to the north and the south.  We decided it was time to dig a stone quarry closer to town.  We spent that winter gathering wild foods, branches for firewood, stone, and iron so that more time could be spent enjoying the summer weather when it arrived.

Another playground was constructed near the lake houses and so was the new quarry where it would be easy for parents to keep a watchful eye on their children.

Chapter 11

By early spring of year 11 we had a large area cleared and ready to plant our wheat.  We traded stone and a few hide coats and iron tools for bean seeds that we planted in the smaller field where the wheat had been.  Two farmers would work the larger wheat field.  The new quarry had 3 stonecutters and we would soon have enough stone to trade for more seeds.

A family of 4 arrived by houseboat from Riverview.  It had gotten a little too crowded and busy for their liking but they were not real happy with the thought of returning to Riverboat Junction either.  Rumor was that Riverboat Junction was spending more time and effort building a fancy new section of town with mansions instead of renovation the old town worker's quarters as promised.  The family was happy to stay with us and would live aboard their houseboat at least for the time being.

Over by the lake a windmill was built where it could catch the summer wind blowing across the lake.  We were all thrilled at the thought of having our flour milled for us.  Next to the cemetery a large area was cleared to plant the peach seeds we traded stone for.  We were also happy that there would be more sweet juicy peaches available during the summer months.  A new food would be available to us soon, a workers house was built for one of the young adults who set up a dairy table in his yard to make cheese.  We had a large surplus of milk from the farmyard cows and we were happy to have another tasty food we did not have to cook on a hot summer day.

 Chapter 12

The newly planted peach orchard was doing well in the spring of year 12 and so was the new wheat field.  Nearby a baker workshop was built and began baking herb bread.  Later when the orchard had grown we would have peach pie.  Edmoniqua who tended her milk cows said the dairy could make butter for the bread and cream for the peaches.  There was plenty of milk.  Our mild weather was good for animals and crops.

It was another beautiful summer in our Hideaway with wild sunflowers now blooming in several locations.  Some of the children and parents at the new playground were snacking on the seeds.  We would see if we could buy seeds to plant a field full.  Avernestie said we should see about getting tomato seeds, she could not grow nearly enough in her farmyard.  Berely, the market vendor, agreed that the tomatoes were in high demand, they were gone almost as soon as she could put than out on the market stand.

We were surprised when the next riverboat merchant who arrived was Dolli, a general goods merchant, the first one we'd seen.  She had been busy taking stone from Red Rock Quarry to Riverboat Junction and in between she spent time enjoying the Quarry's new beach resort.  We ordered much needed leather.  When Latrinidad, the seed merchant arrived,  we asked about sunflower and tomato seeds.  He said there was no need to special order, he would probably have some on his next stop.  He was not so sure about accepting more stone though, the Quarry was doing a good job now of supply stone to the Junction.

Chapter 13

Latrinidad returned in early spring with tomato and sunflower seeds.  He took most of the stone we had at the trading post but that would be the last stone the merchants would accept in trade.  We immediately stopped work at the quarry.  Before they left, the workers used what pieces of wood they could find to build a fence and a Keep Out sign.  Our town children were well supervised but we did not want to take any chances with their safety.

A field of tomatoes was planted on a small hill hoping they would get the extra sun they needed to ripen.  The location was a good one, the tomatoes did very well there.  Nearby a new house was built and the young couple set up a dairy stand to make butter for the fresh baked bread.  Plain bread was now being baked because herbs were in short supply.  Also in short supply was leather, the general goods merchant still had not returned with the leather we ordered.  The tailor switched to making linen clothes for the warm summer months.

The peach orchard yielded its first harvest of peaches, it was small but we did not expect any that year.

Chapter 14

As always, we looked forward to spring and summer as soon as the temperature began to rise.  A field for the sunflowers was prepared and ready to plant, and the sailboats were already out on the lake.

Perhaps there was no one who looked forward to spring that year more than the family of 5 swamp dwellers who arrived.  At first we thought they were pirates, the oldest male walked with a bad limp and the oldest son had a peg leg.  They said it was thanks to pirates and dark elf healing powers that the two of them survived at all, but they knew of nothing that could stop the nightmares that reoccurred every year when the swamp frogs began to crock.  The family thought moving away from the swamp might help.

There were many things the two adult males couldn't do, but they could fish and they could catch mudcrabs.  A tree topper house and crab jetty was built by the second lake.  The father managed the ladder just fine but a workers house and fishing pier was built nearby for the oldest son .  Rusty built a crabbing boat for them and it was a joy to see how well they adjusted to their new life with us in our Haven Hideaway.

Chapter 15

The new arrivals brought our Hideaway's population up to 120 citizens.  In early spring of year 15 there were 74 adults, 23 students, and 23 young children.  It was maybe time to build another house or two.

Recent graduate, 13 year old Mackenzil, moved into a small workers house by the peach orchard.  She set up a workplace in her yard to make fruit preserves, the nearby shed had plenty of berries from the gatherer next door.  When the new harvest of peaches came in she could switch to peach jam.  If she needed more honey she would set up a bee hive, the nearest ones were on the other side of town in the apiary.

Everyone in town loved peaches.  They would have the choice of eating a fresh peach, having peaches and cream, or a piece of peach pie.   Ten year old Earli moved into a workers house by the wheat field and was raising one of Edmoniqua's calves.  He would make the cream from the excess milk.  He would have liked a tree topper house for a better view of the lake but the miller objected to anything that would block the wind from the mill.  The baker began making the peach pies.

Across the lake behind the tree topper there, another farmyard had been planted with berries, corn, cabbage, potatoes, and a few chickens.

In late summer, Dolli, the general goods merchant, finally returned with the leather we ordered.  She had been again to Red Rock Quarry and to Riverboat Junction and she returned to us with some news that might interest us.

Chapter 16

The river boatmen felt responsible for encouraging us to produce more stone and now there was no need and we were left with a large useless quarry.  Dolli had been trying to find a market for our stone but with no luck.  In Riverboat Junction, she spoke with Mr. Red who was in charge of canal building and inspection but he confirmed that most areas had enough stone of their own or they could order it from Riverboat Junction which was now receiving plenty from Red Rock Quarry.  Mr. Red's associate, Mr. Eb, was quarry master and he concurred that the quarry could supply the Junction with all the stone that was needed and it was not even operating at full capacity.  Mr. Eb did have 2 very interesting suggestions.  We could convert our quarry into a fishing hole or a swimming pool.

We chose the latter. In spring of year 16 we began the renovation.  The quarry buildings and stones were removed first but spring was very wet that year and the quarry filled with water sooner than needed.  By summer the water dried up enough for construction of the pool's frame to be built.  Scrap wood was used to fence in the whole area from spectators.  It would take a while for the pool to fill with water and warm up enough to use.  Meanwhile  snacks were being brought to the vendor carts that were built.  There would be berries, sunflower kernels, and peaches to eat poolside.  More rain in early autumn finished filling the pool and the fences were removed.  The autumn sunshine warmed the pool enough for a few cattails to sprout and some ducks to take a swim.

Chapter 17

As soon as the weather warmed in early spring of year 17, benches, tables, and chaise lounges were placed around the pool.  A colorful food stand was built to use our home-grown tomatoes, peppers, and cheese to top a piece of pie crust, it was called pizza pie.  Mothers were happy to see the children eating their vegetables.  They were also enjoying more milk and fruit.  Another poolside treat was ice cream made with milk and fruit, more of our summer peaches were used.

The water was still too cold for most children to want to swim in but another sand box with water bucket and a swing set was added to provide more summer poolside fun.  But life in Summer Haven Hideaway was not just all about fun, there was still work to be done.

Chapter 18

As usual in early spring there were branches to gather and crops to plant.  Beryle, the preservist, set up a bee hive in her yard.  With the hollyhocks on one side and the peach orchard on the other, they were bound to produce a lot of honey.  Over by the pool another farmyard was planted mainly because the Pizza Hat time after time needed more peppers.

Rusty and I soon realized how fast time passes.  Our children were all grown and our oldest daughter  wanted a home of her own.  So did many other young people, our Hideaway only had 34 homes for 56 families.  It was time to do some building.

A single family house was built not far from the pool for our daughter and her new husband.  A Haven platform with storage was being built by the pool, it would house 3 more couples.   More couples meant more newborns.  Rusty and I had  a newborn son and grandson by the end of summer that year.  Diapers hanging out on the backyard wash lines were a sure sign there was a newborn in the house.  Out back behind our daughter house 2 tree topper houses were build.  Year 18 had been a busy year.

Chapter 19

Maybe it was because the previous year had been so busy or maybe it was because the winter had seemed so long but as soon as the temperature rose above 50F in early spring of year 19 rocking chairs began appearing on the haven platforms.  People on both the high and low levels wanted to sit out and enjoy the spring sunshine.  Pots of flowers began appearing on the haven platforms too and elsewhere around town at ground level.  There were even pots of hollyhocks and sunflowers around the pool.

By late spring of year 20 our population was 155, 93 adults, 19 students, and 43 young children, all were healthy and happy.  Our Hideaway had 42 homes for 53 families.  The education rate was up to 46%.  We worked and studied hard in fall, winter, and spring so we could enjoyed our Hideaway more in summer when the sun shines bright on our happy summer homes.

Chapter 20

So, weary traveler, you arrived just in time to enjoy summer.  Our Summer Haven Hideaway is a happy place to be especially in summer.

In the center of town is a park and farmer's market, not far from the school and playground.  Houseboats and homes have a lovely view of the river that is free of pirates.  There's fishing on the river and crabbing in the smaller lake.  Our summer farm fields and our backyard farmyards and workplaces provide for most of our needs, but the workers have plenty of time to enjoy the gazebo and sailboats on the lake.  Tree Topper residents enjoy their view of the lake and the Haven folks enjoy being close to the pool where we can go swimming every day.

As I said, weary traveler, you've arrived just in time, because here comes summer.

;D  Thanks, @CookieBarrel   Tequila billboard sign would have been cool  ;D  I did not think of that old song until almost the end of the map and story.  Sometimes a song will inspire a story and sometimes story reminds me of a song.   ;D Smallville Musicals

@Abandoned ;D  ;D thank you for the good news - I am very happy - when it comes to the Hobbit beta2 mod - I have already downloaded it, put it in the Kid's catakogue - so as not to get lost - I do not have all the new mods - currently installed in the game - I also like playing with different mods - published by moderators> I will try to start placing them slowly into the game, but not all at once because there may be some small conflict> I would like to try to create a beach and a nice little lake that you created - I really like this idea - but I don't know if I will succeed? I've been playing this game for a long time - but I'm more focused on building small, self-sufficient villages - without having to trade goods.Regards

I also like towns to be more self-sufficient than relying on trade.  Good luck with your next village @taniu    :)
