the idea behind that : really too many people only play 'valley' or even modified setup like 'plain' , 'extra plain', 'extra flat map' settings  :'(

i want to make something to push people back to play 'mountains' map. or even an 'extra mountain' setting if possible to do ??

Oh, you are speaking from the bottom of my heart!  ;D
Playing flat maps without any terrain features just bores me... no offense meant to all those who prefer flat maps.

And Hobbit Houses - how cool is that! and looking so cute  :)

Would you consider making the grass on the roofs a bit rougher and darker? Just so they don't completely "disappear" in the landscape when zooming out...  :)

there will be maybe some different colors, cause many starting conditions provided with CC change completly the color of the ground :)

If you would be so good as to not tell the Sackville-Bagginses his wereabouts he would be in your debt.

hi there,.. if i may suggest.. nice if you can place also/even onto the mid of a mountain.. like a mountain top houses.. and a road can be place in the mountain without lowering the terrain.. just saying.. (i am wasnt aware if there is existing already) thanks

unfortunatly i cannot be done, when you decide to build something, the game always refers to the 0 level ground . it doesnt lift up to follow the mountain level, it simply disappear inside and you dont see it anymore till you passed the other side.

Ack!  I got all exited when you wrote "it is available there" thinking you had made the hobbit houses available, but it was the orchard you referred to.   The houses I said I really like was meaning your hobbit houses.  I hope it won't be years!  ??? before we get to use your hobbit houses.

Hi. I have followed the discussion with interest and it is sad that RK will not continue.
But... he is well worth taking it cool after all his years here :)

I decided to grab hold of the Hobbit idea and make some houses.
For now it is only a Beta with four houses in two textures.
I made the houses both buildable in a mountain AND as free-standing.
My wish is to continue with this, given time and strength. But it has to
be a long, slow project.

Here are some houses.

This could maybe be a Tavern with a proper sign?
For now it is a big residence.

CC Orchard Forester is pictured farther back in this thread - reply 25.   :)

These Hobbit Houses will also go nicely with Kid Forest Deep
Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: Jewelz on June 06, 2020, 05:40:06 PM
Oh WOW! Those are fantastic, Kid!! The door hardware looks so cute! Love love love the window details, and the flower boxes are a very sweet touch.  I would add chimneys, though. Hobbits love their hearths. ;)

Would you consider a dirt/rock colored roof for the mountain version? I would also love a red door.

Abandoned, I am using Forest Deep in my pseudo-hobbity world right now. It does have a very Middle-earth feel and blends in quite nicely. I'm also trying to keep everything small, so only bitty stuff, and Kid's small workplaces, etc. I'm almost exclusively using Kid's Farmyards. They just are so stinkin cute.

I'm going to go look for the Orchard forest addon you guys are talking about.
Edited: I saw that, but could not find the download for it. I even did a search on Blackliquid forums. I'll try again.

I was able to add it, no problem, but I only got the gatherer hut (which is adorable) but not the little white hobbit houses Taniu has pictured here. Any thoughts?
Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: brads3 on June 07, 2020, 10:22:59 AM
did you check a new game and see if it is because you added the mod later?
Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: Abandoned on June 07, 2020, 10:30:44 AM
:) The white buildings are not houses, they are the foresters that plant the orchards, the smaller tan building is the gatherer.  Check all the build menus, they are probably not together.  Planter may be under food or production.  I don't remember.
Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: kid1293 on June 07, 2020, 10:54:10 AM
@Jewelz
I am not going to put stones (or rocks) on the roof but it gave me an idea.
You all know I like the vanilla textures so why not?
They blend in better than green grass sometimes.

Here is Beta 2 with a third texture added to all houses.

Post by: Jewelz on June 07, 2020, 06:16:13 PM
Abandoned Ah! He called them houses. Boo. Oh well.

Kid, the thatch looks good. No chimneys, though?

Brad, Not sure. I will do as Abandoned said and look around. Only one gatherer hut option came up with the F key, tho.

Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: kid1293 on June 07, 2020, 08:27:25 PM
@Glenn - Yes, now I have checked. Not bad!
You people decide if you want vanilla walls or white walls.
Not both. Too many.

edit - I will add chimneys and I will edit all fences (for the future)

Post by: kid1293 on June 08, 2020, 10:23:38 AM
Hi @Jewelz
I got the farmyard from an old idea by brads but it was Abandoned who pushed me to it.
They both wanted something like this, unaware of each other.

I must write a disclaimer @CookieBarrel - That two-story house will later be a tavern.
I think a big house like that (for 6 persons) is more suited as a tavern.
Thanks for the cookie!  ;)

---

These are the three textures I will use. I will continue in the light of another day :)

@Jewelz   You have them, the first icon is the gatherer, each of the trees that follow is a foresters, the white building.  There are 18 different fruit trees with the white building for each one.  Hover over tree icon or build one to see.  See my screenshot

Want to say thanks for bringing Hobbit World under discussion again.  I was also glad when @brads3 made request for farmyard, we were thinking alike at the time.  They turned out wonderfully and now a favorite.

After many twists and turns, I have decided on the textures.

There will be four of everything. Like this.

I kept the wood the same for all and I can stay with only one fence!
Better, when you want to connect between houses.

There will be a lot more but for now, it is Midsummer. :)
Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: CookieBarrel on June 19, 2020, 08:06:08 AM

You all ready have more fences. A white half fence from Stone house addon.
Enjoy you midsummer. :D

If one is careful in placement and with the use of terrain tools, these houses do function.
Perhaps hobbit homes might work on a hill.

Title: Re: Hobbit World
Post by: CookieBarrel on June 23, 2020, 01:36:55 AM
My last post was meant to show how bannies can get to places like homes that wasn't meant to be used in such a way.

Yes, experiments and exploring concepts. Such as....
Mnt facades (or functional buildings) for homes. (see pic)
Hill facades to tuck hobbity buildings into
Higher ground level homes and (or) buildings.
Placement (of buildings) with minimal flattening to the slopes or hills.

Since I.m doing allot of dreaming, I wish Necora had extended her precision terrain tool beyond level 0 to -1.
As the saying goes.. beggars cant be choosy.

Dang, just remembered one of DS fences raises the ground to about 1.25. I was going to exploit this and that, was months ago!

@kid1293 , Thank you so much!

Apologies for the double post, had a little dizzy spell.
Just a couple more things to finish off.
First, uploaded wrong screenshot. This new one shows the haven house on the waterfalls better and more of the hobbit houses in aray.
Secondly, apologies to Kid for abusing his mods.
Lastly, @kid1293  I'm not asking you to do any of those things, its just exploring ideals. However...
see that hen house? It would be nice to place it in and around a chicken pastures, it wouldn't need to do anything, just set there and look pretty.
OK, Ok this is the last thing, Off topic. I don't know who came up with the milk cow was it Abandoned? Kid? an undisclosed person? Well, I could just

@CookieBarrel , like the pictures and experiments.  I have question on how you got Haven platform on the water?  We were thinking of a Swamp Haven.  I confess, milk cow for Summer Haven was my idea. They turned out well  :)

Lol, I just spent a couple hours on a how-to "create a waterfall view" by placing a Haven house on top of The Forest Pond.
I seriously need to learn how to read! So the question is.. how you got Haven platform on the water? Platform, platform, bloody platform.
Well let me tell you, one of the cookie elves slipped a new ingredient in the cookie dough batch which caused quit the ruckus after cookie time.
Magic was flying every where nearly taking out a whole flight of fairies. A goo of dough gooed down the hill from the tree factory into the smoking pond.
Just then reeds bloomed into vines of twisty......

Abandoned that water is Necora's special spring water.

Edit dang I can't stop laughing
To get the platform in water kid1293 would have to code the building foot print for water.
All we can do is fake it.

;D LOL ah yes, love magic  ;D  Yes, Swamp Havens would be totally different, we discussed it, would need different swamp trees also.  I did put some puddles with ducks under Forest Haven using Necora's Maritimes Riffles.  I thought you maybe figured a way to raise or lower pond or land for water haven.  Picture looks nice.  Maybe someday a Swamp Haven.  :)  Don't tell Kid I said so  ???  :)

Edit:  Kid Hobbit to be continued.
