Title: More gold?
Post by: twilightbreeze on December 28, 2017, 03:46:06 AM
Please be kind, ok? Just a suggestion.....

Mod for The North that would make gold either eventually renewable, or eventually respawn in another place. Only because Tom wasn't kidding. He really did shave available gold down severely. I like to play Small map/Anders and Ella, and there is an average of only 10 gold deposits per game!!!

Yes, it's worth much less than before, but still, 400 per is still nice. Anyone?

I find it the way it has become; possibility to find a few (10 is a lot, I think I had 7 on the medium map, I play now. Maybe there might be some more far away from the start). I find, a lot of "easy to pick" items, would be like a cheat.

I would like to let a few nuggets respawn at banks, washed out by the river or so. Would be reasonable and nice to use the gold seeking button later in game again (without making the start boring). But it doesn't work. The game can only respawn at flat land and just there I don't want gold. Needs to be fixed in core game.

For more gold I would suggest to Anders and Ella to look for a nice valley with more creeks or to join a group of gold seekers. With these conditions I counted about 80 gold nuggets on a small valley map.

I also want to bring back gold mining. I removed this option from the mine for now because it was too strong with new values. All you need would have been gold mining. I can balance it by including gold ore to be melt down in a shack or by a separate gold mine. Not sure yet what would be more fun to play.

TOM,did you check the page where the guy was trying to develop a different reed mod? the reeds only spawn near streams.  i think BT also worked to unravel how to get things to spawn only in certain areas when he was developing the NAT DIV mod.

@twilightbreeze ,did you try the my precious mod?it would add ores for silver and gold. not sure how it would react once melted down.

Yep, I know the trick to spawn it near the river but it would be still on flat land and not on the banks where the initial gold nuggets are. I tried it and it looks too strange for me.

CC Did a placer mine that could be placed at creekside. It resembles the old pan mining operations.

Nilla, technically, at their core, all mods are "cheats", really. I don't see this one as a negative.  :D

In a way, you might be right. Most mod change the game in some way, many of them makes it easier. To discuss, what is a cheat and what is not, doesn't make sense. Luckily this game is no competition, so everyone may decide that for themselves.

In this special case; the North, @Tom Sawyer has tried to make a challenging mod (at least if you choose the harder options). A lot of valuable gold, just to pick right from the start, would take some of the challenge away. I would find that a pity. It's a completely different thing, if there's gold or other valuables to be found, that has to be processed somehow, to become a good trading product.

@ Nilla  :D I like your answer
"Luckily this game is no competition, so everyone may decide that for themselves." - support
Personally, I belong to the older generation and play for fun "Banished", I prefer that this game was not super difficult - there are many other games of varying difficulty. "Exiled" also has different levels of difficulty and different starts and I do not see any obstacles to choose something for myself
