Kid - House Boat V1.41

Straight and angled House Boats for 4 persons. 5 different colors.
Floating Market in 2 different colors.
Some gangway to access the boats.
!!! You must extend the gangway/jetty up on land or it will be a disaster with bannies trapped !!!

@kid1293 I had to stay up to get these done :)  Just a couple for now, more tomorrow.  :)


Other mods included in the shots are from: @Discrepancy    @Necora   @RedKetchup  (& I am not sure if you can see some farm houses by Embx in the rear of one of them), and of course @Bartender & @tanypredator wild produce in some closeups :D


I haven't installed the latest texture, I was well into dinner when I saw an update had been released.
I haven't loaded them in correct timeline, I'm sure it can be see how it naturally progressed.


The one thing I notice though, working on the bend in the river, is how few angled decorations there are!!
If we can have an angled version of the houseboats, that would be wonderful!


@Discrepancy  & @RedKetchup when you take another look at your buildings, your tents especially, could you see about a couple on angles please.  :) 


Definitely need a camp kitchen now ;)  hahaha

Nice! I can see they work well with the jetties.


But the houseboats are maybe too 'happy'?

Anyway, I like the bright colours of them, I'm always open to more options, but these lifted my Friday mood, so it was lovely working with them, and it suited the feel I was going for, with the camp etc ...  but ... . I will see how grungy I can make them tomorrow :D

And yes, definitely worked well with all the ones I use, no issues there at all.  Makes it easier across the board when things fall into place like that.

It will create red squares around the boat. (mostly in corners)
My gangways are ghosted but jetties are not so they will not fit
to the side of the boat

Bear with me ....  just a second :) @kid1293 just .... go with me on this for a minute, take a breath, then say "No" :D

What about, an invisible dock piece, that can reach to the middle of the river, with an angled boat.

The idea is that then the House Boats could be 'moving down stream', flowing with the river, and they have the visual effect of movement - but, of course they are built to the spot, and the invisible plank allows the Bannies to come & go from their homes as they need to :)

I know ...  I have a 10 minute time out, and I need to sit on my hands.  And yes, I know I'm in trouble.

ps:  @RedKetchup I thought I went through all the tents, I will have another play now whilst i'm in 'timeout' and will double check.  :D  I was sure there were some, but I couldn't see them last night.  So, not sure what's going on.

I must say you are persistent.


I don't like an invisible piece stuck to the boat. Or to the shore for that matter.
I want clean and simple solutions that work without a lot of planning when
you place it in game.


I don't say 'No, absolutely not' but I want to solve it in a nice way.
Even if it means work for me.


My proposal is that I make a new boat. Almost the same but with a different
front piece. (see picture right) The red is the footprint.
The lower right provides docking place for the jetty. From two sides.
I think I can solve the bannies walking onto deck and up to the door.
That way we can have an angled boat without to much fuzz and still
using the existing jetties.

Glad you like the shots @kid1293  , I grabbed another shot, now that there is more around the moorings. :) 
This has your storage, your houseboats & your gangway, paired with @Necora PEI Shore Fisheries (http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=186) & the Riffle mod (http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=292) :)

It has turned out spectacularly well, and I had no doubts to begin with once you figured out how you wanted to do it. :D

I need to add a food market, as well as some decorations, and add a Pine Set Forestry tower to fill in some more natural resources.  Maybe a play ground, like I had put in further up river. 

The colours are excellent, will suit all build areas & docks :)  Fab work!!
I think @Glenn will like the colours, they are a really good balance.

That is what I was responding to.


Yes, maybe @Paeng needs a heads-up too. I think he was the one who
made us mod 'not-so-straight'.


@tanypredator - of course! She asked for the boat in the first place.

Actually, it was @Paeng who brought the first idea :) Though his model would better suit for storage. I was thinking of boat-houses long ago, but hadn't enough enthusiasm to make them. Thank you very much for giving life to this idea!

I am working on a River Market and want to know if you are ready to download again.  :(
After all, I have the jetties here and the market fits the house boats.

@kid1293 , those are absolutely fantastic, I vote add more boats to mod.

After trying original on test map I was going to make the suggestion to add a few of the workplace roofs or replace the white one.  In winter it looks like it has a lot more snow on it than the others moored next to it and in spring it looks like the snow didn't melt. But that's just me and I'm sure  :)  someone will tell me if I don't like it don't use it. LOL ...I'll use that one next trip North.

The pier pieces look good and are easy to place.  :)

No more pieces at the moment.

I rarely use more than the low piece.
Start by the boat and build towards land - done.

Maybe it comes from testing so much.
It is different when I build for a screenshot.
And I can see in Discrepancy's jetties mod that variation is needed.

Interesting thing is happening....I've built the boat and the gangways to them, but the only people that inhabit them are children, and even then they leave the house empty, then another child comes in.....then leaves.....I have adults and families waiting for homes, but they don't seem to want to inhabit them. Any thoughts?

Oh, I'm playing the latest North, and the 10.7 build.

I have tested the house boats right now and it doesn't conflict with the north mod. I also noticed what Twilight wrote and I placed the boat right on the bank. They can carry food in and so on. A family moves in to instantly move out again and to leave their child in the boat.. I don't know why. Needs more testing.

While playing around I had another funny thing... It even solves the moving out issue very, how to say.. definite. ;D

Poor thing, you have set her adrift, up the creek without a paddle.  :)  (American Saying)  The residency problem must be related to the North.  In Riverview I had no problem with houseboats along shore but did have to add a pier piece to a few of them and to the paddlewheel market.  Suddenly I had homeless people because the laborers took goods to paddlewheel market and could not get back off.  But houseboats, families moved in and stayed.

Edit:  How old is lone child left in houseboat?  Proper time they will move out at age 10

What Tom reported, is what happened to me. I guess I didn't say it right. The family moves in, to immediately move out, and leaves a child behind....age 5, age 3, and age 7. So yah, somethings not right. The boats are connected by the front and by the side.

So yeah, something is going on.

I checked Kids mesh and his code and see nothing wrong.

If they bring food and firewood it means the use_001 dummie is working.

The residence code is pretty straight forward and short and I see no errors there.

I think it is a pathing issue with how the gangboards are placed and maybe not always reach the shore?
But then why they can bring the stuff on the boat?

If I look at the template file it looks like this.

I don't know if the gangways can be placed anywhere from the boat but if they are placed at the left(back of the boat) there is no path as the # tells the bannies they cannot walk there so they leave but why they leave a kid behind is beyond me.

EDIT - Well Kid created the boats so the kids not going to leave pathing issues or not :)

I'm pretty sure it is connected with connecting the boat.^^ If not connected correctly before the boat is completed it can force a family to split or something like this. It needs a pier from this open part on the side till a land piece where a road can be build, not just where land is on the map. Maybe better to build a pier first and then a boat there. My poor couple in the picture were building the boat in water and after this they were forced to move in. It also splits a family if they have a child.

It is rather strange. The gangway is very connected to both the boats AND the shore.

I'm glad Tom had the same issue, it's not just me then. It's gotta be something between the mod, and the North.

This would be even more strange because the north mod doesn't change any residence mechanics. Can you send me a save file to check it on your map? :)

I agree Tom. walkable access is important.

If a house is placed with the road side over another object it will not work because there is no path to the use dummie.
The house get build but if it is finished it errors out as the bannies cannot access it so move in and directly out.

Bannies always build even if they have to go into the water.

In CC many players had problems if they build the jetty's and buildings in the water because if one in the middle of the water was finished before the ones to the shore where finished the builder bannie(s) stayed on the finished piece and starved or froze if the other pieces were not build on time.

to fix the glitch EB mentioned,you can demolish the finished piecs.then bannie will walk off of it,then you just reclaim it. since you say it is happening to a child,it sounds like the mom is about to have another baby and they want room so they kick the kid out.in which case all the kid has to do is step wrong and give them a reason.the bannies can be strange at times. they will walk to somewhere and then worry bout getting their feet wet coming back.

In Luke's code it is set as the bannies can go about anywhere to build.
That is why a floor object in the mesh not works in the building stages.
The bannies just go through everything.

But if the building is finished the collision kicks in and the template file is used where the modder can tell the bannies where they can go and not by using the _ and # in the template file.

It is the other way around brads. it seems the parents leave the boat but leave the kids behind on the boat.
Why that happens I have no clue.

Ok, I deleted the gangway, and re-did it so it goes inland a bit....that seems to have done it. Guess they need a lot of ramp-way to get in. I'll let you know if I have any more trouble. But thank you.

Just a heads-up. There are people having problem with these house boats.
The majority have no problem and those who have, mostly solved it
by extending jetty a bit up on land. It is a very touch-and-go with the jetties.

Start building from land. See if the bannies can walk on it. Then build a boat.
If you have a working jetty you can add more boats.

I am so sorry if this has ruined your experience of the game.

When I first tried the houseboats  a long while ago, I didn't read any directions and did not build a jetty.  I just wanted to see what the boat looked like in my game.  I was very impressed that the Bannies could walk on water out in the middle of a lake to build the boat.  :o Then they walked on water and moved in.   8) These guys are amazing!  But, then they froze and starved even though I had a market full of food and firewood on the shore they walked from.  How sad that they lost their ability to walk on water. :'(
