Title: Colonial City Center - WIP?
Post by: kid1293 on September 26, 2020, 10:46:14 AM
Hi.
I followed the discussion between @brads3  and @Gatherer about commercial buildings as homes.
@Abandoned  also made a request and we discussed textures, among other things.

I have made them before, in my Wild West mods. This time I try to make them colonial.

Disclaimer!!
I have experimented and very soon got bored of doing rowhouses. All of these new houses
are NOT the same width or the same height. Maybe I did wrong but I can not find it in
me to start over. I am sure you want more but for now, you get them as they are.

In the picture, you see one of each. All buildings have 4 f-key texture variants.
They are all 5-person residences except for General Store which is a market.
There are 2 stone buildings and the rest are wood.

they look very good. i don't think all buildings need to be the same to work together. even as row houses, many times people built a tad different. if 2 people built the same, the 3rd came along and built between but with his own ideas. these make good fillers for city areas without just looking like houses. very much appreciated. those textures are fine. if you decide to add more, you can use the colonial textures from that mod too.

from what i can see, you and Abandoned's indian pieces look good too.

ideas- a horse stable that works as a blacksmith. a wagon shop.ice house, stove or households shop, an enteraintment building like a theatre or music hall. could function as a townhall or church. similar to the meeting hall but longer so not square without the bell tower.darker textured.another linen shop to use the flax from the wild west garden. i do wish we had more buidlings that function as a church happiness but aren't churches like you did the jail. a produce shop as a house but looks like a produce stand in the front. many times people did sell stuff in part of the house and live in the back or 2nd floor. stage coach.

I haven´t followed every thread lately but do I understand it right that these buildings (except the general store) are normal houses they just look like a store but don´t have another function than any other house. If it´s that way, it´s not a bad idea. They all look nice and I fully agree with Brad, different size, different look is just fine. :)

Those look great Kid!

I always look forward to what you're gonna put out next; keep up the good work please.   ;D

Kid, I am glad you made these houses disguised as businesses.  I like that they are not all the same width and height.  That is often how it is in real life small town main street shopping sections.

I echo the above comments that they don't have to (should not) be all the same.  Very happy with the Wild West versions too. Much appreciated!

They look great, thanks for these!:)
Yes, colonial building styles were very much personal taste and families building extensions onto their homes as they saw fit.
I also like these fonts you chose for the signs, they fit nicely.
Also, I really like those redbricks on the post office, any chance you can do those the rectangular roof tiling like the rest instead of diamond shaped?:)

Hi @Artfactial
I tried another texture, more like the others.
I also made a Town Hall. Shown with the new roof in the picture.

I will continue to work off and on with this mod. I will take my breaks...

I love it! It's a great style, thank you. Looking forward to what else you come up with.:)
Breaks are very healthy, take your time.

That town hall is a very nice looking building!  I really like those particular bricks.

Here is a Food Market.

It also shows another texture.

@Abandoned reminded me that @Gatherer wanted some markets.
I'll see what I can do.
Title: Re: Colonial City Center - WIP?
Post by: Gatherer on September 28, 2020, 03:50:36 PM
Yeah, I wanted some markets that look like regular houses. I'm very much fond of Necora's Sherbrooke Market because to me it looks like a country house but can be built either in small wooden villages or large stone towns.
Here it is with white walls and grey roof.

A group of markets of different styles (not just colonial) that would fit many mods would be supergreat. Any chance of a rowhouse market for the Rowhouses Business mod?
Title: Re: Colonial City Center - WIP?
Post by: Abandoned on September 28, 2020, 08:30:22 PM
@Gatherer The food market pictured in the post before yours comes in four stone textures, one is vanilla stone.  The general store in the first picture of the post comes in 3 other wood textures - 2 are Kid Colonial textures and 2 are Kid Workplace Village textures which match many of Kid's mods.  There is one more market being added.

edit - there are 2 roofs that match with Kid Rowhouse mod

@kid1293  :D I like Colonial City Center - different textures, I like small houses. Geetings

Post by: kid1293 on September 29, 2020, 07:34:27 AM
Thanks, @taniu, and thanks to you others too :)

There will be more houses. Some small, some stone.
I have made a nice market. Look at the picture.

I know there are many wishes with a mod like this. Special things, theater, markets...
I will work and feel good about it. Some crazy stuff maybe sneaks through but probably
no theater.

 :) I keep working!

@taniu - this one is for you :)

edit - This is now an ordinary house but @taniu, if you want, I can change it to a market or storage.

Well with wild west mod, this fit perfectly for some American alike map theme. :)

@kid1293 ;D I like everything your head thinks - thank you for putting on my login sign - thanks. I have had an idea for a long time - to connect the inhabitants of Vanilla, Hobbits, Elves and Dwarves on the map. Hobbits have their own characteristic houses, I would put elves in tree houses, but I don't know about Dwarves -to live in put in mushroom-shaped houses-or houses made of swamps - but I don't know if it's a good idea ? and many different mines because Dwarves love gold and gems. I don't know if I can make it - but if another player takes my baton, I'll be very happy. I will use your mods because I have a lot of choice. Greetings

Thanks @taniu
To be honest - @Abandoned wants dwarves too. I maybe spend the winter in a mine ;D

Here are some more.
Sundries is a common 5-person house and the small one is a Firewood market. Good to have
in a group of houses. Abandoned's idea. Thank her :) :) :)

I really like the overhanging second stories, very fitting.:)
Could you consider a tavern/meeting hall kind of building?
Something like the first meeting hall of Boston (around turn of the 18th century)
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/l4_R7qWmnjxfk1PuIfdzLqvy84K-eT7PCJnyo1tcgu4E7N7gkgUohtjPfeN-FZB0-E1eLpVjgcrLmZisSJ4HcJZ0MmfUhHZTOlFXW2WLVW8BXJB0jPoSXhael-MLFyNUgf9O-4GwKde4JO6dBsmizWt191jqIF4t-qT6pE8ieZvOyrqWamaI7jyXCcgmX_EyfPoBNKNxgDkJNwO7D5RygaS83stcMec0tLFNM4FWxG1shPPuRj2yAb7dSmT48ijRR_vZkv0hoNDeAOi8-pVsEPQwYUygaw4qV6ap2W127QxpK1VV7YPbU0TxhOtGbZxHSKAKUX9_owV7fr8ow3uKc1Jj5GjrGzPXZPV3s3piKhvditIzg_zbo3SsQhrwLP80eo3qdPOtdn_vM50g_swxh9VkkLIhSppwEWHtjWHNwFnQO50a2OGAxbLd2w7F5dIwyxsDS8MeJh3KKJZKCabdkLS7UO71ED5ObyW21vOPRpm74f-iCOWbOAB_nSK-V9oRH4ybW7yjBUy5n7nIjkT5CtG3PI1A2sgbLjVAqQMuRtwFKNH0kW5KE9-UaY2tnG7UdDzbEYDLePKEzMWNM9K5Uu2jKvC7McB45HbKPvPxbAJzoo_E86G-KE2Klg7vuwqXnmW9hOq30-OgkYA7pqsVgymUZsN6jcRykc9u0QUJ4NiHkq53zRc1PFE419go=w942-h661-no?authuser=0)
Or the Philadelphia Tun Tavern (around the American Revolution) would fit very well with the theme.

Hi @Artfactial
I did a small side-step by making a Town Hall but this mod-to-be was meant
to have only residential and markets/storage. I don't know where it ends.

To be clear - No production. No, not even a shady moonshiner in the basement :)

The Meeting Hall in my Colonial Housing mod is made a little after real life. Only one color though.

Oh yes, the functionality of the buildings I am leaving all to you and others would probably be more suited for another set.
Thought the style of these two might inspire you for this set.

The Colonial Housing Meeting Hall is amazing; planning on putting that one at the center of a new town soon.:)

@kid1293 ;DSorry to disturb the moderators with my idea, I'm an old man and I think a lot about my project, but I have it all in my head, unfortunately this
transfer it on paper / rather put it in the game - I'm afraid that unfortunately I have no experience,
I have no strength
and I don't want pity, life is cruel, but you young moderators, creators, storytellers have potential and strength, I also wanted to bring something Exiled. I have a dream that at least Abandoned help me choose the right mods, and you @kid helped me complete the missing links for my project. I will try to show what I mean, only one thought is a language barrier bothering me? If you help me with my project, I will be very happy

I have a lot of ideas, but I realize we can't put everything Banished right now - I was hoping there would be 2 Banished. Regards

@taniu - I hate to tell you it is the wrong thread for special projects.
What's more - I am really occupied and do not want to divide my attention.
I am sorry. I need time to make things here at home and I want to take a break.

:-\ I didn't take a break when I should but now I have come so far I think it is time.

Do not give up @taniu - There will come a time when we can do other things. :)

I guess I will be working on this for a while. Just need a break.

Thanks for the additional items!

Regarding a tavern, I understand you don't want any production buildings, Kid, but maybe make a building that is a house disguised as a some sort of tavern like building.  Maybe call it a "Juice Bar" or "Fresh Juice", or something like that.  That would be good to go next to the new Sweet Shop, across from your Granny playground.  We need some places for the children.  People could put the mini brewer from your Workplace mod aside it, if so desired, to have an actual production of alcohol.

Using the multi colored tile roof texture from the Granny Park and Neighborhood on these, or future mods, would be very much liked by me.  So would the greenish copper roof texture.  Maybe you would not want to add these textures to this Colonial City Center mod, but hopefully you will keep them in your mind for a possibility for some future mod.

Hello and a Good Morning from here.
@galensgranny - That is certainly within the borders of this mod. A 'fake' tavern ;D
I will keep that on top of my list. :)

Regarding multi-colored roof. I don't say no but I can not say whether it comes in this mod or the next.
I like that roof. (I actually found several similar roofs. Could be something...)

I am glad you consider my ideas positively.  If you wanted more kinds of pretend shops, there could be a barber; a sewing and knitting goods shop (called Haberdasher in England, and Notions in the US); a glass wares shop; and a toy shop.

@kid1293 ;D ;D ;DI am sorry that I put my thoughts in this thread - you are right, I should think about the statements a bit - I think that I will open my new thread. I know that you work like an ant, and you must be very tired - you deserve a lot of rest from creating new mods. I just gave a loose thought - I don't expect you to do it for me. if something does not work out, I will just ask and someone will advise me - there are many very smart people on this site. I apologize again, I wish you a nice rest and peace. Cheers

Nice picture! It reminds me of something I was working on for a while.

@brads3 I have tested the Test version of this mod and everything works as it should.  It is not a large mod, yet  ;D (still work in progress) but it is tested and safe to add to an existing map.  It would look good in your currant town, feel free to add it if you want.

Test version was released back in reply #23  :)
