game version: started with 1.0.2, continued in 1.0.3 beta from around the year 22

This town's progress was first posted in another post (summarized below) and will be continued here in this topic.

--

When I started this town, I decided to do just a little more planning (a.k.a. "Holy Pre-Planning, Batman!" - @rkelly17) than I usually do.

This is what the town center and the southern industrial area looked like just before unpausing in Spring 1

Before unpausing, I had to remove all the roads and stockpiles (why can't I pause those!) on the area's beyond the river and stream, to prevent my poor citizens from trying to build them. I also removed all the stone roads in the town center, but left all the dirt roads in place and assigned one builder to slowly built them.

The start was a bit rough on this one. I only had 2 kids next to the 8 adults. I was trapped between the river in the south and the stream west and north, and could only move east for gathering materials until I built a bridge. In the east I built my (temporary) forest circle, so I had to send my citizens further away to cut down trees.
And what I underestimated, was how hard it is to gather materials when you fill the whole area with buildings. So a year of careful unpausing building after building and re-pausing them just in time, so they would be cleared but not loaded with wood and stone yet. The town is doing okay now though, with the trade port set up and a second market working.

In year 2 or 3, the town looked like this:

--

At the start of year 14 the town starts to show a bit like a town, although still quite some yellow pause icons. The roads look okay even without the stone roads in between. I stuck to the plan mostly, although I changed to stone houses sooner than planned. An extra, temporary, fishing dock was placed between the planned trade posts because I needed some extra food. I also started planning some development in the west, including three houses just south of the cemetery. 61 citizens now, 21 families in 21 homes. The north (not really shown in the screenshots) is getting stripped from trees, stones and iron.

Update from the year 35. I've had quite some stone shipments, which allowed me to finish all stone roads, bridges and some wells. I've also expanded north with pastures and east with plenty of farms. There are now 5 markets and some 150 adults, 40 students and 40 kids. Thanks to the 1.0.2 update, only 50 graves. It saves a lot of cemetery space.

Farming in the east, with 10+ farms built but unused so far. I need more adults first.

Thank you @Kaldir I think in the absence of a Let's Play video, this kind of post will be valuable to players.

I'm not so sure about it being valuable, but it's nice to show them to you all. :D

Greydragon

if you want to you can go to the options menu and uncheck the show status icons  to remove all the pause symbols when you take your screenshots  ;D

Bobbi

I didn't know that. I will definitely use that in the future.

Kaldir

Ow! I didn't know that either. It would kind of defeat the purpose of those first few screenshots here, but it will definitely come in handy in the future. Thanks for the hint, @Greydragon.

Update from the year 45. The population has exploded. I tend to build an almost 1:1 houses-to-families ratio, but hardly even noticed the growth from 200 to 300 citizens, until I saw that my food reserves went down from 80k to 50k. That was easily fixed with more farming and fishing. I also built two trading posts solely for storing extra food.
I've held back on the house building a bit to slow down on population growth. Not much succes in that though; got 450 citizens now, half of them students and kids.

Some statistics from this year, which clearly shows the steep population growth:

I like the look of the "4x15 farms behind a house", as seen in one of the previous posts, but for the latest expansion in the west I've chosen a square of 9x9 / 10x9 farms (10x10 didn't fit) with two barns in the center:

I don't really like the long lines of house (unless combined with 4x15 farms) or big grids of them, so I've been experimenting with little plaza's surrounded by just a few houses:

Looking good @Kaldir ! Thanks for the update!

@Kaldir  -- Other than your UI screens in post #7, I'm not showing any of the other pictures in this thread, and I feel like I'm missing out on something good.  Pictures in other threads are loading fine.

It very well could be me, but do you recall if the pictures in this thread were posted with different than usual settings?

@salamander: that's weird. It shows fine for me, and I assume for @solarscreen as well since he replied on them.

In the original thread I mostly posted them as attachments, except for reply #11 where I did inline images like here. Can you see the images there? The images in that reply and all the images in this thread are posted in the Gallery. The images in this thread are all posted in the Village Collection of the Gallery. Can you see my images there? Otherwise it might be a viewing permission issue there.

The only difference I see between the UI statistics image and the others in this thread is the size. That image is only around 100 KB, while the others are mostly around 5 MB. It's a mixture of .BMP and .PNG images, but if you can only see one image here, that shouldn't be it. Most others here post JPG's, I noticed, but I often forget to convert my images.

What browser/device/OS are you using to view this?

salamander

@Kaldir -- This is the first time I've run across this.  Every post with pictures (in many different threads) up to this point has loaded just fine.  So far as I know, I should be able to handle jpg, bmp and png files.  It may be the size -- maybe I'm just too impatient to wait for the pictures to load.

I can see both thumbnails and full-size images in the 'Village Collection' of the 'Gallery' area.

I'm currently using IE11 on a desktop computer with Win 7.

At any rate, thanks for the information.  To me, it sounds like something on my end, not something in how the pictures were posted.

Kaldir

Weird. It looks fine on IE11 on Win7 here. Nevertheless, I'll try to remember to convert my pics to PNG and resize them a bit in the future.

I added a lot of farms recently, so I built another trading post for storing food. I built it on an isolated lake, or so I thought. This very persistent merchant thought differently.

When I dismissed it, it went into the small stream and followed it all the way to the river.

Lately I've done quite some bridging and tunnel. I got the Golden Gate achievement, but I think there should also be a London Underground achievement. On the screenshot both the Golden Gates and the Underground.
