Title: Lost in the woods
Post by: kid1293 on April 26, 2019, 03:18:41 PM
What do I make of this? It is rather high poly.

how much poly per tree ?
i would say also, by my preferences, i prefered half new half vanilla to reduce overall total polygons on a map, huge map.

The trees look very nice but from what you are implying high poly counts overload the graphics for huge maps,
( but do not ? ) for small and medium maps.

Is that's the case all you need to do is make it clear that they are best not used in large or huge maps

you can have maybe 4X more trees per map if huge map. all the extra tiles need their own tree/thing.

medium is 384 x 384 = 147,456 tiles
large is 512 x 512 = 262,144 tiles
huge is 640 x 640 = 409,600 tiles

Well. I am ashamed about the polycount, it goes from 1300 up to 2900 per tree.
With many hundreds of trees, it is a load on the computer.

I tested a large map. I have a rather good computer and usually have 144 fps with a normal zoom.
Now I landed on 40 fps when fully zoomed out. With 2000 people and a lot of buildings it would be very much lower.

Talk is cheap. I decided to let you try it if you want.
There is not much I can do about the poly count without remaking the whole mod.
You test and tell me if it is all too much :)

These trees are VERY pretty! Would you consider making them decorative items as well? I'd love to place down a tree or twenty XD

On a Large map for me and with just 2 bannies walking around, the lag was pretty noticeable but I don't have the best computer. When I would zoom out and try to turn my camera, it was kinda slow to respond to me.

On a Small map it was less noticeable and I rarely play zoomed out very far anyway. I'd play with these trees as just a nice change of scenery, despite lag =)

This tree is sort of glittery in game for me, like the edges of leaves sparkle quite a bit but its super pretty to watch it glisten as the shadows dance:

just that ? thats ok !
of course if you would have talked about one 0 at the end.... 10,000 to 80,000 poly...
but under 3000 thats totally fine !

:) Now you are nice to me! :)

I have gone through the files again and I have optimized a bit more.
I had 44 fps at full zoom out on a large map. Now I have 54 fps.
(with vanilla trees I have around 100 fps)

Here is a new test version. I also changed maple texture and fixed a graphical glitch.

Mod is now in Download section.

Yes, it is a yes to deco trees. It can take a while, I am busy in the kitchen. :)
(If you and Jinxie go together I have no chance to say no)  ???

:)

@RedKetchup - As soon as I am satisfied I upload code in the Laboratory.

Your trees are gorgeous. So pretty. A deco version would be really nice to go in @RedKetchup 's RKEC :)

Hi @quadgamer - I don't understand what you mean.

@kid1293 I think @quadgamer doesn't understand that mod is not a map but trees that replace all the vanilla trees on any type or size of map.

@quadgamer, you can find the tree mod info and link to download here

sorry. I read the discussion before I saw the mod in downloads. so, I thought you may have made a "lost in the woods" map, meaning, a map that's tree dense and not sparse.
