Title: Nilla- Ashfordville; cold swamps
Post by: Nilla on July 01, 2018, 03:11:53 AM
I told you in that other thread, that I might start a new blog from my "Cold Swamp Town". It will not be a large test, just a few impressions. It's a sweet mod. Not very challenging; the production is very much based on vanilla values. The buildings are small and cheap to build, you only need some logs, so a "swamp game" is easier than vanilla. But everything doesn't need to be a challenge. We also need mods, that's just nice. :)

Maybe it could have been a challenge, if I had played the "Swampy thing" as single mod. There's no forester and no way to get textiles/clothes, other than import. With a hard start you can't even wait and get some sheep later. No merchant bring seeds and animals. But I like trees and don't like a totally deforested place, so I decided to use Kid's Forest Outpost as well. I'll also use the market and mines from his"Tiny" mod. When I took the forest/clothes challenge away, I'll need something else. What? ........ Some decorational mods! :) That will be my challenge in this game. As you might know, if you've followed my blogs; I'm not good at decorations.   ;) :-\ :P

First picture
Start with map and mods.

Second picture
Sea frontline. As I said; I like trees, these big decoration trees are nice.

Third picture
It even snows! :)

Fourth picture
Overview in winter.

The shoreline looks very nice with the jetty pieces, reeds, and water lilies.  The town looks nice with the snow.  :)

Thank you. I like the seasonal changes in Banished (and in life).

First picture
The picture shows the religious center of this settlement.
I'm not sure dear Bannis, if it's wise to have so many big trees, throwing their shadows. Our mosquitoes don't like sunshine but in the forest and in the shades of big trees, they are waiting. This year is dry,so luckily they are few. But in the swamp in summer, there must be a lot of them. I guess, these are different; like the sunshine more than shadow. ;)

Second picture
Overview. You can see the different age of the forests.

Third picture

No fear for big frogs. ;) These Bannis catches a lot of them. But why do they only eat frog legs? Can't they eat the rest of the frogs as well?  ??? :P

Fourth picture
I told you a lot of frog legs, but more fish and a lot of imported food;. As usual; too much!  :-\
This is really a nice mod. Even a mining village looks beautiful! :)

Not much gaming time lately. Too much football! And believe it or not: We're still in! England's next! :)

First picture
Not always easy to mix mods, if you want it to look nice. These ponds have a "vanilla ground".

Second picture
Need a lot of flowers to make it look decent. But I like the flowers, so I'm pretty satisfied with the result. :)

Third picture
Here lives a fisher family. if you look carefully, you can see their pet frogs. I guess there's no frog legs in their store. ;)

Fourth picture
Overview. The houseboats aren't always easy to build. There's no access to the demolished house. It would have been nice if the jetties would have worked as entrance, but the house is still inhabitable if I build some as entrance.

No football, time to play again. My little swamp village continues to be very prosperous. I've taken some nomads, to make it grow a bit faster.

First picture
I order apples, corn, bean and cabbage and autotrade for these food categories. I sell valuable meat and "easy to get" fish. You can see the content in the trading ports and my too large store. I've also bought small amounts of logs from time to time. You may also see, that there isn't so many warm coats. The hunters get more leather than down, so I will start to order some wool as well.

You can also see, that I thanks to Kid, finally understand how the house boats are supposed to be built. It's pretty logical, if you take a look at it!  :-[

Second picture
Over-all-view. I don't know. The land looks nice; a lot of trees with buildings in "camouflage", disappearing in the surroundings. But totally it's more a lakeland than a swamp. I'll try to "fix" it.

Third picture

Not very good!

Fourth picture
Better!

Fifth picture

In winter; it looks even nice!  :)

The Bannis are brave, walking on those slippery jetties! ;)

:) Hi  @Nilla , cold swamp doing nicely.  :)  Look here, there are other houseboats that Kid made :

http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=308

They can also be used with other jetty sets, not just the pieces that come with the mod.  Also often you can place them right along shore without a jetty piece at all and bannies can get on and off just fine.

I just explained it is better to be safe with a jetty piece than to starve to death.

It is fine if you build boat and watch for a minute, most times it has works fine, sometimes need just one jetty piece on shore.  :)  It works for me

@kid1293 It would be really nice if there would be a houseboat they could fish from  ;D

@Abandoned, I know that there are other houseboats as well, (and also the very nice market) but I try to avoid everything that looks "new". I want all buildings in this settlement to have that worn look, like they have been there for some time. If I have to build something "new", I try to hide it with as many trees as possible, like the sauna from the Forest Outpost. The small chapels however fit my taste with their oxidized copper roofs.

I do agree; a houseboat or some other spot to fish from, would be very good. I could have a few more ideas, but since you've said @kid1293, that you have no plans to extend this mod, I will keep them to myself. If you ever feel, like this is a mod you want to put some extra work into; let me know and I will tell you, what I would like to see.

Hmm.. there is a fisherman in mod or did I not include it?

...checking, source okay and I started game. There is a fisherman @Nilla !
but I agree - a houseboat would be innovative but I never know which way
the boat is headed. The bannies may very well stand on boat and fish on land  ???

@Nilla
You had us all fooled my friend. You can create eye candy settlements. ;)

Party's over! :'( I mean for Swedens football team. No complains. England was better and if you want to beat a better team, you need to play your best football. Our team didn't. You can maybe also win against a better team with luck. But England's goalkeeper prevented that luck. Not much to say about it. I felt more sorry for the Russians, fighting like that and lose on penalties. But that's football World Cup, too.

Thank you @Gatherer. I like the look of this settlement, too. But it's not very hard to produce something beautiful with (almost) only one mod. And such a pleasant looking mod like this: Everything fits so well together. So not much fooling. And I'm following your advice (at least I think it was from you): I once asked you great "city builder" how to think, when you want to focus on "nice looking" and I got the advice to build the way I would, if I was supposed to live at that place myself. I try to do that here, with a lot of trees and flowers.

Sorry @kid1293, I didn't express myself very well: I meant a possibility to fish from the jetties. I have a lot of those ordinary land based fisher. That's actually my main food production sites.

I haven't played much lately, but I can show how well the buildings fit together in such small "blocks". So I can even keep my usual dense way of building and it still looks good. :) I'm playing around with different alternatives. Although, I must tell the inhabitants to weed their flower beds. ;)

Thank you all for the nice words. The doctor says, it will take 6 weeks until I get rid of the gips. We will see, after I've got more used to my crutches, I might even try to get upstairs to my computer.  I guess, that I can make it up, but I'm scared of going down. Don't need to break that other leg, too.

I'm sorry to hear about your leg!
You can go down the stairs on your bottom.  It's not dignified, but at least you won't fall!

Sorry to hear about your accident, Nilla. I hope things are soon on the mend.

I'm having to go without my dose of Banished too at the moment as my pc went bang and Im waiting to see if it can be fixed!  Withdrawal symptoms already creeping in!

Bad news for you too, @LadyMarmalade , also the football game yesterday. I was hoping for England. It was close but in the end, Croatia was slightly better so they deserved to win. But I think this young English team will entertain us the next few years.

I'm still living my life downstairs, without my computer, that's also work as "house server " close to the router, not easy to move away. Anyway I'm not supposed to sit with my leg down anyway ,so I move myself between the sofa and a garden lounger. And this Ipad is quite fun to play with, when I slowly learn what I can do with it. Maybe I can even load Banished on it. Have anyone tried to play with a touchscreen? I have no idea,  if it can work,

Yes, the football was a huge disappointment after so much hope and expectation but, as you say, the best team won and I am still very, very proud of my Team. They played beyond anyones expectations and good, honest football which cant be said for all of the teams.

I dont know about playing Banished on the Ipad. I have a very old Mac that Im using while I wait for my pc to get fixed and I can't get Banished to work on it at all.
