Title: More Cheese Please!
Post by: child_of_air on May 18, 2018, 11:39:06 PM
Playing with Red's Creamery, I wished I had more options for various kinds of cheese. Something like Pepper Jack, Goat Cheese, Smoked Gouda, and perhaps a cheese that is soft, such as Brie. It would be nice to be able to put to use some of that leftover produce and trade up in terms of items that have a better trade value.
I'd really love it if someone could create a dairy mod so that we could choose more than just a generic "cheese" at our creameries. And I'd love it if were in a medieval style, or something more similar to pre-colonial times. Tudor style would work too!

Wine, Cheese and bread- the staples of Europe. I don't think they are properly explore enough in the game. Besides.....cheese is just too good to ignore.

For goat cheese, you need goats. I love goat cheese, and goat milk. However, no one wants to make real goats.

But other cheese choices would be nice too, I suppose.

Adding a new cheese type to the game is a nice addition - I think you can only change the name - code - but making a goat animation is not that easy. In the game, we have only goat - the spirit created by @ Necora

My goats do not move either. It is frustrating not knowing what it takes to make an animation for Banished.
One way to solve it if you really want goat cheese is to have a small shed for goats that produces goat milk and...?
In the shed they can stand still and look occupied :)

;D Yes, that would be nice, an animal shed like the one with cow & chickens or the one with sheep only with a goat for milk and a matching cheese shed. Nice. In assorted textures.  ;D Maybe to match Tiny mod.

Goat milk and goat meat. Goat meat is called "chevon" and is actually healthier for you, very lean naturally.

I really wouldn't mind a goat shed or barn, where goats stand still and look occupied. That would be great. But I would want the textures to be a decent quality, and the whole building to blend into a medieval theme. You could have several varieties of goat cheese:

Plain
Honey
Herb
Onion Herb or just plain onion flavor

Perhaps with different textures too.  Yum :)

Goat Shed, like Sheep Shed, would be nice. Produce chevon, cheese, leather, and milk. Different types of cheese too.

If I want to stay simple I can have a goat's shed that produces cheese only.
I have read your comments @child_of_air and this 'Village Cheese' building
produces Queso. Another name for Cottage cheese. They come as Plain, Honey and Herb.
It is a good protein source and there is a good trade value.

No milk for now. Maybe later.

Comments ?

Countless hours of reading about cheese.  :D <-- cheesy smile

I have goats. They give Goat Cheese (Not queso or chevre or farm cheese)
I have found countless articles about eating goat cheese and honey but none about mixing honey
into cheese production. So, no honey. Add it yourself to your meal!

Herbs on the other hand - several recipes for making goat cheese with herbs.
Due to limitation in Banished menus I can not write Herb Goat Cheese. It is too long.
To be clear I have to call it Herb Cheese. Adding herbs also gives a higher trade value.

I do not want to add any of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_goat_milk_cheeses
It is too much like spamming the game.

I have only read comment from RK. The rest of you - You don't like goats?  8)
to be continued...

goat cheese arent called feta ?
Title: Re: More Cheese Please!
Post by: kid1293 on May 22, 2018, 04:54:33 PM
Oh yes, feta is one of them. From Greece. Chevre from France and so on..

Just too many.

Post by: Abandoned on May 22, 2018, 06:36:41 PM
Feta cheese is goat cheese, hmm, I have eaten goat cheese then.  :)

Why not name the building Goat Farm or Goat Cheessery and then simply goat cheese (plain) and herb cheese (with herbs).

I like that roof.  :)

Post by: Discrepancy on May 22, 2018, 08:06:30 PM
I don't think all Feta you get is actually made from goats milk, mostly nowadays commercial feta is more than likely made in part or totally from cows milk. At least that holds true in my own country.
Title: Re: More Cheese Please!
Post by: kid1293 on May 22, 2018, 10:29:13 PM
@Discrepancy is right. They (the greeks) have, like many other countries, mixed their
goat cheese with cows milk for a softer taste.

@Abandoned - I like the name Village Cheese for the building and yes, the products will
be simple and easy to recognize. Who wants Feta cheese in a mexican village?

Now another problem. Do we need Goat Milk? I say no. Not now.
Maybe if someone could animate animals and we get baby goats :)

@child_of_air - This is maybe not what you wanted but it is a start. If you are persistent
someday someone will make those yummy cheese brands.

I have to check output and numbers but soon you get goat cheese.

@River - Sorry for no meat. The goat supply is limited. :)

I remember earlier when buying feta you had to look at ingredients to be sure that it's 100% sheep and not fake feta from cow or stretched with cow milk without taste. Since some time it's a protected label and must be from sheep made in Greek. They still try to catch you with feta style pictures and similar names but cannot use this name anymore. At least in the EU it is so.

but feta is still a good short name :)

@kid1293 , I love the look of your goat building!  :) I would like even more if it had a matching small storage shed, not more than 2x2, or maybe as large as 3 x 3.  Then, a matching house for the goat herder is definitely needed!  ;D
Regarding the kind of cheese, I don't really care as long as it is not the same as the other cheese making buildings we already have.

@galensgranny - I don't know if I should be glad or run away and hide  :D
I am about to release it and, just in time, you want more. You beat me to it with 15 minutes!
[...day's plans cancelled]

??? :-\ :-X ;) :)

[day rescheduled...]

I make another shed  ::) and a matching house.
Please! Don't suggest fertilizer!  ;D

Hi again!

Just to wet your appetite. When I am done you will do anything for goat cheese. :)
I am going away, this will continue later.

Nice choice for the stone texture! I'm not into goat cheese (I tried pizza with goat cheese, but... never again. I had to carefully remove all the goat cheese to be able to finish it ;) Feta is great though, so I suppose I must've tried it made with cow milk), but what about smoked cheese? For all I can recall it's not available in CC smoke house, but it'd be great as an option. To make it simple, it'd only involve cheese and firewood, without barrels or anything like that.

Oooh, the shed looks great!  :)   I have been wanting one looking along those lines and size for a long time.
I am glad I was in time to help you organize your day in a new way!  ;D   But, seriously, people will love more matching items for your goat cheese pen.  Thank you ever so much for adding the new shed and a house!!!  :-*

Never, I have not dealt with fertilizer in my game.  My soil is perfect with no need for any additives.  ;D

as long as you are expanding the animal sheds, i wish there was a "flipped" variation. a way that 2 could be set so they connect together.now when you place another 1,there is either a walk space between or 1 looks backwards from the 1st. how much do you want to expand this set?
Title: Re: More Cheese Please!
Post by: Abandoned on May 23, 2018, 06:25:46 AM
Is this being added to the animal sheds?  I think it is separate mod, goat cheese, shed, and house. Nice, glad you suggested added buildings  @galensgranny   :)

But of course, more is always needed, Abandoned!  ;D

I don't think it needs to be a separate mod from the Animal Shed SA, but rather that there needs to be a house to match the texture of the lamb and animal shed (cow and chicken pen).  That is a very nice wood wall texture in the current Animal Shed SA, but so sadly, no matching home.  That would make mighty find mod, with the new stuff added.

Yes, Feta is nice and short but you will get trouble with guys from EU commission.^^ I would prefer a tasty well matured goat gouda. :)

Post by: Abandoned on May 23, 2018, 07:07:22 AM
@galensgranny   :) I disagree, I think it should be separate but with a name village cheese I think it needs the whole village.  ;D

Of course Animal Shed mod could be expanded to include matching houses, and new textures are always welcomed @kid1293   :D

Goat cheese and herb cheese sounds great, I simply wanted more variety to the game and with your dairy mod, you only get one kind of cheese. As far as the honey goat cheese, in my country (USA) there is that specific cheese at a store I shop at called Trader Joe's. It's quite famous and the cheese is yummy, but it's probably not historically accurate and is most likely something the store just invented.
I do like the shed texture, it's quite nice, I wouldn't mind a few f-key variations with different rock or stone textures. For the record, I'm not pushing you to do any houses or anything. I only care about cheese! ;)

Post by: kid1293 on May 24, 2018, 12:20:50 AM
I read about Trader Joe's cheese. I also thought it to be a marketing trick.
Not something commonly used. Maybe it catches on :)

For now there will be no F-key variants. I am still trying to grasp the reality of
rescent attack from otherwise nice and peaceful forum members  ;D ;D
Only joking but there will be storage and a house added. Maybe then I can check
if I can add another texture.

I am off to the train. Will be back later.

@galensgranny - house and storage added. :)

@Abandoned - Sorry for not making a village :)

@kid1293  :) very nice set, love the roofs.  With vanilla roof it will look like it is part of a village.  Nice alternative texture  :)  Thank you
