Title: Small Problem with mods....
Post by: Willows on May 28, 2018, 05:42:41 AM
I have this little problem. There are so many great mods, and you all are such great modders, I want them all in my game. BUT...my game can't handle them all.

Why do you all have to put out such great stuff to tempt me??  :P :P :P

I used to have a problem with the game loading way, way too slowly, like 45 mins! I had a l lot of mods, but now have even more. Then I realized to turn of all unneeded programs in the Windows task manager, in particular all the automatic update programs.  If you use Steam, be sure to change it to "offline mode".  I think that helps.

Once a modder, always a modder. You start modding one game and sooner or later, if you play other games, you'll feel the need to mod them too. I did that with Sims 2, Sims 3, Cities Skylines, and now Banished. And I know I'll mod all those games again at some point, and possibly other games I'll play in the future. You can take a few months, even years, of a break, but you never quit forever. At least that hasn't happened to me, I always come back to the games I've modded.

And in my opinion, all infinite games (such as those I listed, that don't have a set goal or story) should be possible to mod. It increases their longevity a lot. And that gives you an awesome hours played/money spent ratio too :)

What problems do you have exactly? Crashes, slow load times, lag?

Oh, this post was actually a complimentary nod to all the great stuff all you modders do!! Was saying you all are so talented and I want them all!! hehe

But I have this old busted down computer, several years old. I have my options for this game with anti-aliasing off, and low settings for visual, and I still get like, 5 min loading times. But the game plays fine.

Right now, I'm playing CC with 20 extra mods, don't really dare do more than that, lol.

Like I said this was just a praise for all you modders, kind of tongue in cheek, like. You guys totally ROCK!!! :)

I know it was a compliment (a nice one!), it just made me think how modding works for me :)

I wouldn't turn your visual settings down if your problem is slow loading time. Just minimise, do something else, and maximise it again when you heard the music meaning it loaded. Apparently having it minimised while loading speed things up too, for what I've read.

Willows,  5 minute load time is fast to me.  After I made some adjustments, my load time with so many mods is a "speedy" only 20 minutes, down from 45 minutes!  So you have plenty oF "time" to add even more mods!  :)

dont forget to alt tab and go surf during that time can help you alot in most case to accelerate the process :)

thanks you for the compliment :)

@Willows - Saying nice things is a guaranteed way for more mods  ;)

Glad you like it here.

you have 2 issues. 1 is getting more speed from the computer. 2 is how or what mods to add together.

to deal with the computer speed there are several things to try. 1st clear the game registry. in testing and trying different mods,it is possable some are left in the registry slowing down your game.even after you removed them from the WinData folder, they will take some power.there are some posts to explain that more and walk you thru the steps.that will gain some speed. then do as granny said, check the task manager and turn off unneeded or unused progams. you can also go to programs and check windows for any that you don't use and shut them off.any old games or programs might be trying to do updates still.
there are game settings to check also. 1 is turn off the auto saves. those are so frequent and will take power.try adjusting video options.you might be amazed at how much speed you gain.
after that open the game with no mods enabled yet, since you cleared the registry, and open task manager. go to performance. how much memory are you using and how much do you have available? this physical memory is the amount of mods you can add in file size.

issue 2> what mods?    we can't have everything. i have tried,LOL. check my village blogs. not everything from every mod will work together.each player is different and has their own style and likes. you gave to figure out what you want and how you want the maps to look.ask yourself " why do i want mods" and "what do i want the game to do"?  remember you can add tons of small mod sets and use little power. add 1 big set and it can use more power than 10 or 20 of those mods. you also have to consider what you want from the mod and how much memory space it will take up.does adding the mod bring enough to pay for the power it will take?

once you have a start to your mod order, we can give some advice or help explain things if mods conflict. the CC mod does use a lot of memory.i changed from it to the RK CHOICE. you get the production chains but it uses less memory. by doing that i gained all kinds of memory space. the CC journey is 3 times as big as the RK. not counting if you are using the mega mod version.

Well, let's see....I took the advice I found for CC off the Black Liquid website for playing CC and did thus in this order:

Ridiculous Storage
Increased CC
Iron is Iron
Lush and Green
NM3T Orchards
NM3T Crops
CC Journey
The rest is just random order like this:
Kid Yard cover
Kid Stone House Addon
Grow Mushrooms
Grow Onions
Grow Roots
Deco Plants by V
Deco Mod by Math.
Kid A Lot of Seeds
Colorful Fences
Nomad Sigh
Tiny Separate
Busy Laborers
Maritimes Trees
Mini Buildings
Forest Ponds
Renewable Resources
New Well
Deco Plants by Kid
An Empty Square
Colorful Little Houses
No more rain
Real Time Aging by Torgonius
Granny Park

I don't dare add more...the latest was V's Decorative Plants, and there was a bit of a crash hiccup at first, but now it loads and plays fine. Oh, and I do know to restart the game after enabling it in the list. Got the advice here off you guys, lol.  :)

What are your computer specs? I use about a hundred of mods and my game loads in a few minutes. Your list looks like there's a lot of room to add more :) Here (https://pastebin.com/91p6D2KN) is my list.

One thing that helps your computer is a "no smoke" mod. There is one specifically for Colonial Charter on Black Liquid's site. Load order is important, but I forget now what the order should be. You'd be amazed how many of your computer's resources are used making every building smoke.

Thank you. It's good to be back. I wandered away playing other games like Civ VI and Cities Skylines, either of which can consume your life.  :) The other day I was watching a YouTube of a new game called Foundation and remembered how much fun Banished is and how much I missed the World of Banished gang. Wow! So many new mods! I'm spending a lot of time trying different combinations out and seeing what changes have been made to old favorites, like even more colors on Red's Little Houses. The local gang of modders have been especially busy with new and wonderful stuff.

Cities Skylines is a time eater definitely! If you want something more modern than Banished, CSL is definitely the game to go for. And like Banished, it has tons of amazing mods too :) And it has one of the best dev attitudes I've seen. The devs just add what people want, and communicate fairly often. And I got to know Banished through CSL, someone mentioned it on the forums and I decided to give it a go, and I ended up here.

based on that order,i doubt the maritime trees are working right. i would move it to the top along with the no rain mod. if the aging mod is red, move it above CC. i would move all seed mods above CC unless CC specifically says to have it below. place the NMT seed mods above the others.generally any mod that affects the start or main game play like age mods and seeds or graphics, you want above CC. addon mods or decorations can go below. switching from the CCj to RK will save you a full GB.and you won't need the NMT seed mods.

One small question if I may?

When my bannies are clearing out some land, all of a sudden a crate appears. I know this is a material called Domestic Animal, but how can you tell when it's on the ground? I see nothing unusual, then they "harvest" and the crate appears.

What does it look like on the ground?

those just appear random while clearing land.  they were appearing too often in my games. i used the domestic fix to stop them from happening. i now use the stable mod to feed and get the domestic animals for some buildings.

My slow load time with extra mods was killing me. I just recently bought a new computer and HOLY WOW! It's so exciting! Banished was the only game I put on my SSD. My load time is crazy fast! And the textures that I can now see with my proper graphics card are just amazing. I was actually going to screenshot and ask people which of the news mods I installed gave the great textures, and then I realised that it was because I've upped my Video settings.

I always max out my graphics settings in games, and only lower them down is the game is really too slow to play (which can happen, because my laptop is not the newest). I just like as good quality as the game I'm playing can provide :)

Speaking of mods, I am having an issue with CC. I can't find the Ceremonial Ground in the menu. I've looked in each tab, and all the sub tabs. It's not under the Native tab with the teepees and log house.

I'm blind I guess, lol. Can someone tell this dunderhead where the Ceremonial Ground can be found in the menu please?

You can't build it for all I know, there's a separate mod that unlocks it somewhere.

Hi rkelly17!
One question. Could any of those NO SMOKE mods work on NORTH?

Yeah, No Smoke made a huge difference in frame rate for me.  I liked the look of the smoke, but my old computer just can't handle it.  I'm saving for a new one, so by this time next year I'll have God's Own gaming rig.

Oh yes, that "no smoke" mod was very helpful with my game on my old not so powerful computer.  It really did make a difference.

You should try building your own! It is not as hard or as threatening as it might sound and you can get just what you want. The price won't necessarily be lower because you can get top quality for each component. Not every, but almost every pre-built computer has some lower tier parts to keep costs down. The one, well actually two related flies in the ointment at the moment are memory prices and graphic card prices. Both are quite high.  :-[ There are plenty of "how-to" videos on YouTube as well as reviews of various components. PCPartPicker.com also gives you a place to plan out your build and see what the lowest prices are for each component. The other problem: If you get the bug it is a very expensive hobby. I've built my last two (my Grandson currently has #1 and I use #2) and I'm hooked. Why couldn't my parents have been rich and left me scads of money?!?  ;D

A home made computer from "grandpa", that's pretty cool. I have the opposite (more or less); I inherit the "old" computers, mobile phones and other electronic things from my son, who means he need some newer and better devices. A perfect situation for me. Besides, I also have a good support, if something doesn't work. :)

In fact I am planning to build it!  A good friend of mine builds and repairs computers for our public library.  He's going to help me.   My planned budget for the new machine is $3500 US.  I know that I won't be able to get a dual graphics card set-up for that price, but I think I can put something together that lets me play whatever Bethesda comes up with next at Ultra settings.  And of course Banished.

I didn't know about PCPartPicker.com, so thanks for sharing that.  I'm off to look at it now.   ;D

Excellent! You should be able to build a real powerhouse. I'm usually restricted to $1700 Canadian or so. I look at American prices with serious envy. I named my current computer "The Sinking Loon" because just when I started buying parts the Canadian dollar nose dived (we call it the "Loonie" because there is a loon on the $1 coin). That meant a downgrade in a number of key parts.  :(  With memory and graphics card prices high at the moment I'm dreaming and window shopping for now.

His phone is way better than mine, and he uses it much more. And he is now the main IT support person in the house. He loves to take our old electronic devices apart and see how they work--he has all his old phones and iPods disassembled along with our old television. Maybe he'll become a highly paid electronic engineer and support his grandfather! I'm always surprised because almost all of the grandkids' school work is on-line now. The local high school students all get Chromebooks and then everything is Google docs. Even the Jr. Hi students do everything on line. They've never known anything different. It's not the old days anymore.

For US$3500 you should be able to get an absolutely awesome PC! I built my own just last week (after building 2 for the kids for Xmas). My budget was AUD$1600 (or $US1200 ish) and I am really happy with what I put together. I can play everything on Ultra or Epic with great FPS. I put an RX580 in it. The kids only got 1050Tis but that will do them for a few years (they're both pre-teen). They still get great results on High or even Ultra so we're happy. Building our own was perfect ;)
