When I first used the Fountain Mod, I tried building some of those new houses, and I found that it really bothered me that I ended up with one part of town that looked like a different class of people lived there. I decided I couldn't use the homes anymore unless I had the room and resources to give everyone those houses.

Oh dear, @Mahnogard, don't tell me you're a Commie!  ;D ;D

I just wish those fancy houses didn't look so good.  :-[  Let's see, hows this for an excuse: I want to show a realistic picture of the inequalities of society in order to stimulate motivation for the revolution. Are you buying that?

Haha! I might buy that - if there was a revolution mechanic. :D

Banished is like a special place where all that real-world stuff doesn't matter. Bannies have different priorities. :D For the seedier side of things, I fire up Crusader Kings 2, where I try to use my weaker children (often born of concubines) to screw up the gene pools of my future targets.

See, I need my Banished Utopia for balance, so that I don't turn into a complete monster. :D

I have also made some peace with the mods (at least some kind of truce). The mods that do not "follow my principles of the game" has a hard start. First I had to change my own attitude. Tell myself not to be a stubborn fundamentalist, but give them a honest chance. These guys have worked hard and do earn my respect.

Principles? hm...... :-[

I find Banished  is a special game. Different from other strategy/building games, I have played before. The first and most important thing is that you can build everything from the start. Opposite to other games;  you do not have to unlock any new levels, products, buildings, raw-materials and so on, to get to the next level. It is from the first step you make, your own decision, what you build and in which way. The same, if you for some reason choose not to build some of the buildings, it is your choice. This makes the game in one way very simple but also very difficult. My humble opinion; this should be hard-coded, at least in the minds of the "modders".

The second very pleasant thing about Banished, is the peaceful  "utopia-socialist-equality-society"  (don't really know what to call it). No different classes of people, where some are living in nicer homes, eating better food, wearing finer clothes.......

A third principle, far from unique, but still an important part, is the trade-possibility (OK sometimes  a bit overpowered) You take raw-material A and B and make the product C, that has a reasonably higher value, than the input.

As I said, after putting these principles a bit away, I do appreciate the new buildings and resources. These guys are really excellent designers.
I am in love with the small city house and the flax-crop from the Town and Textile mod. As I started to produce that spicy-booze, the distillery from the Fountain mod  works excellent, making a huge profit (the fruity one works as well). Even that crazy inventor's has proved to be an excellent storehouse. ;)
@Nilla I really enjoyed your discussion of the Philosophy of Banished. I agree with it very much. It makes for a very relaxing game, even when you are driving yourself to a goal. The mods add depth in any direction you care to follow the modders, I'm still trying to decide which ones to pursue (but above all without breaking my town).

Banished has a long shelf life ahead of it for me, thanks to the developer, and to modders like @slink, @Pangaea, and especially @RedKetchup, who is amazing.

I thank you people for not thinking I am all too crazy, reading my philosophocal thoughts about Banished. I know, it is just a game and I don´t have to be that earnest about everything.

I did finish this game. No chrash! No game over! Everything went fine another 8 years or so. I stopped the game as the population dropped to 200 again. The most I saw was 219. The foodsituation was good. My first calculation of the foodvalue of my production, was a bit too conservative. I also moved some buildings and micromanaged them a bit better. This increased the production.

What are my conclusions about the mods I used in this game, that I hadn´t used before? ( @RedKetchup you know I like your "old" ones and will go on using them, same as the Holsteins from @slink )

The buildable marketcharts are very useful in places you need a store and can not/do not want to, build a barn. I had first one, later two close to the fisherman. The higest value I saw for one fisher was 990. If the charts were full, it could drop to 550. "Fake-demolish" the chards, if they were full, was important.

The rootceller is great. Looks good and worked very well in this game. The grainsilo didn´t work that well. People prefered to put the grain everywhere else, but in the silo. Will try it in another game whith more people and more grain.

The sawmill, looks good and worked well. One woodcutter in the sawmill produced about the same as one woodcutter.

BetterFields is a great mod. I like the possibility to build fields, orchards and pastures of any size. I like the look of fields and (especially) orchards on the hillsides. I like that the default-worker-walue is 1. I like that the productivity of the orchards has increased (Normally I do not build any if I do not have to, because of the bad productivity compared to fields). I do not like the look of the new dense orchards. It is ugly and unnatural. But I suppose I have to live with that, if i want the higher productivity.

These larger mod-packages; "Fountain" and "Town and Textiles"? Great design, some interesting buildings. I will probably use some of them occationally, some probably not.
