Title: Saxon type buildings.
Post by: The Pilgrim on November 02, 2016, 07:49:56 PM
Would anyone be interested in making some Anglo-Saxon/Celtic type buildings. Think wood and thatch hut type dwellings and maybe a long house.  I don't think it would need any service buildings as kralyerg's mini buildings would fit nicely with them. Pretty please!!!😀

Sort of, but more primitive.

I'd also love to see buildings like this and also turf-roofed buildings to match Discrepancy's Viking Storage Vault in his beta DSStorage mod.
I'm assuming The Pilgrim is thinking of buildings like the ones in these images

Both pictures found on the following site: - http://www.brillmusica.com/Other_Areas/Suffolk_Essex/23West_Stow_Anglo_Saxon_Village/index.html

Maybe also stone buildings like this image

Wow, wouldn't those make a nice rustic village.  I really like that round stone house but I think that set would need a barn or a matching lean-to for storage.

A that time in history storage of food (and also extra grain, extra firewood and so on) was often in a souterrain. A souterrain is a sort of cave-cellar but with a long entrance tunnel because they were also used as a refuge for the family if the homestead was attacked. The long tunnel made it easier to defend.

Sometimes the souterrain had an entrance in one of the houses but often they were completely separate buildings with a small entrance somewhere in the compound.
I think the rectangular stone building in the background of that image is a barn so we have two storage building types that could be made, the barn and the souterrain.
