Yes, weary traveler, we were very young and very different.  We were both left alone and displaced by floods when we met in Smallville.  He came from a big town and I came from a small farm.  My family was very close, I was an only child.  His father was a river boatman who was rarely home, his mother worked hard to raise and provide for him and his siblings.  He had a dream to built a town in a convenient place where riverboat families could get together for rest and relaxation.  Hard-working Smallvillians scoffed at such an idea, some thought it crazy, no one wanted to form an expedition for such a purpose.   He was unhappy when yet another expedition was preparing to leave.  I said he should not give up his dream.  He said he was thinking of leaving.  That made me unhappy but I said he should follow his dream.  He said I should follow it with him.  I said I would follow him.

Mood Music for Chapter 1 :  "Wouldn't It Be Loverly" correctly spelled from My Fair Lady movie soundtrack and "In the Misty Moonlight" by Jerry Wallace.

Chapter 1

My name is Livian and my husband is Glennon but you can just call us  Glen and Livi.  Well, it didn't take us long back in Smallville to load a wagon with supplies.  There wasn't much to take since an expedition had just left.  We had no seeds or seedlings and little of anything else except potatoes.  We headed south along the creek that was once the main river and when we finally came out of the highland pass Glen built a sign to mark the way back to Smallville.  There was a large herd of deer grazing on wild oats that were growing nearby.  We could see a river in the distance.  We camped in the clearing and decided this is where we would stay.  We named our town Riverview.

We set to work immediately gathering wild foods and building materials before dark.  We sat side-by-side "in the misty moonlight by the flickering firelight" and discussed our plans for the future.  I said "all I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air", he said he "could be happy in one little room with only a table and chair" as long as I was there. Yes, weary traveler, it was very romantic and he called me "darling".

We worked together on most things, we made a great team, and before long we had our one little room home built.  A hunter's stand and other tiny workplaces were built.  When we weren't together he knew where to find me.  As I did back in Smallville, I would climb the nearest hill, away from the town and the people, and look out at the distant view.  It was peaceful as can be.  When he came to find me we would often watch the sunset or stay later to gaze at the stars.  He made me promise that when winter came I would stay close to home.

Chapter 2

I got my wish for someone to take good care of me that winter.  I was expecting our first child.  I delayed telling Glen as long as I could for fear he would want me to go back to Smallville.  I told him right after the first snow in late autumn.  As expected, he was delighted but worried that we were out here alone.  Our daughter, Inellar, daddy's little girl, was born in early spring of year 2.

We were very happy those first years and continued to work together on some things but separately on others.  Back in Smallville we learned many of wise Nordic woman's teachings like educated workers should make the tools and clothes, so every chance we got we made iron tools, hide coats, and linen clothes from the pretty blue flax flowers we collected.  We often stopped what we were doing to gather resources and wild foods, especially the wild oats.  Glen stopped what he was doing to build protective coverings over our workplaces.

There were many resources across the small stream so we built a wood bridge.  There was not as much surface stone and iron as we could have hoped for.  It was hard work collecting what we needed.  On those days Glen often cooked our supper coming up with different combinations of ingredients sometimes stewed, sometimes roasted.  After supper when Inellar was asleep, we often sat outside watching lightning bugs and listening to the crickets chirping.  Sometimes we talked about future plans and sometimes he just held me in his arms.

In early winter of year 3 our son Osbornell was born.

We began building a small storage barn in late winter and in the summer of year 4 we found other uses for it on rainy afternoons when the children were napping.  Sometimes we talked.  We talked about building a trading post.  We had often seen riverboats from the top of the hill and knew if we had a port they would surely stop and perhaps spread the word that a settlement was here.  We were beginning to realize our dream was not likely to come true on our own.  We needed help.  We also needed to figure out what goods we had to trade.  I thought we needed a town hall to better keep a record of what items we had in our storage crates and cart, and that shed.  During year 5, we built a town hall.

Mood Music: "A Summer Song" by Chad & Jeremy, "Separate Ways" by Elvis, "Until It's Time For You To Go" by Elvis,  "If You go Away" by Neil Diamond, and "This Woman and This Man" by Clay Walker.

Chapter 3

In spring of year 6, Glen discovered a beautiful little pond.  We hadn't ventured far into the thick forest to the east of town but we needed logs and after several day of tree cutting, Glen spotted the pond.  He surprised me with a fish dinner that was simply delicious.  That summer we taught the children to swim in the pond and we ran through the woods and "we laughed and played like in a game", like we did back in Smallville as children.  It was a beautiful summer, but.

"They say that all good things must end someday" and end they did.  Glen said we should start thinking about moving back to Smallville.  Inellar would be 5 this year and next year she should start school.  Education was important to him, he would not allow his children to be uneducated.  I said I could teach them but he said I had too much to do already.  I said I would not allow him to give up his dream, I would take the children and go.  He agreed and said obviously we were "just not right for each other" and there was "nothing left to do but go our separate ways."  How could he say that?  He spent more time fishing and I spent more time up on the hill.  We were both miserable at the thought of parting.

And then one day from the hilltop I thought I saw people across the river, and then they were gone. But it gave us hope.  Things were still strained between us and even though nothing  was said about whether I would stay or go, I built a small outdoor schoolroom and Inellar became the first student. The following year, year 8, Glenn built a bridge across the river.

@kid1293 This is the first time playing Adam & Eve, I thought this couple was actually do quite well until I saw the years passing and no nomads, a complication I didn't expect. I thought it would be slow going at first but on their own I don't think they would get a resort built in their lifetime.  Bloomington built their canal in 10 years time.  But isn't the music nice.  :)

playing at 1:1 and no nomads at all? bannies will live 70-80 years depending on the version.if you don't build the school, the 1st batch of "helpers" is by year 10. even uneducated workers will help build stocks faster than you use them with so few bannies.if you do want growth, the mini townhall will solve that.

@brads3 with 1:1 aging the children start work or school at age 6 and finish school at age 12.  Certainly wanted nomads and since nomads uneducated wanted these children educated for sure.  Year 2 built bridge and nomad lamp post, no nomads, later another lamp post and bridge, no nomads, then the tiny nomad well, still no nomads.  Figured the problem was number of nomads was based on population - no population no nomads.   The couple actually doing well on their own, crates and storage sheds full, buildings built, but a whole resort? I suppose I could have moved them to a bigger house but the solution to their problem is coming soon.  Sorry, I will keep you in suspense again.  :)

i think nomads depends on map draw and sometimes you get a bad draw for sure. i have seen it with the tiny TH also. when you do get the nomads you will probably have set after set after set.LOL.and i don't think population stops the 1st couple either.i think population just helps determine how many you get each time. 2 or 3 kids working now won't hurt education level that bad. they make up for it in production early byu stocking supplies.there are several 1:1 year versions of that mod.sane way with the propertime mod.different players all have different ideas and wants.
playing A&E is always slow starts but does pick up. lots of micro-managing early though.
i did try to send you 400 nomads the last 2 days. yesterday i screwed up. forgot to save game and hit "accept" button on accident. then spent a long time trying to dig out of that mess. sure enough bout the 4th set of nomads later i did same thing.lost the whole day before it was done.

LOL @brads3 I am glad 400 nomads did not find me, oh my gosh, I don't think any of my towns ever had that many people.  I don't know what I would do with them all.  When nomads do arrive I pause the game so I can give it some thought, that's when there are a few.  I can't even image 400, good job dealing with that.  :)

Chapter 4

In early spring of year 9 Glen began building a tiny trading post.  It was hard work doing it on his own and having to keep an eye on Osbornell at the same time.  The boy worshipped his father and followed him everywhere.  How would we ever keep him in school?  Glen said he would finish the trading post, build a well, and gather as many resources as he could and then he would take over teaching.  Did that mean he wanted me to leave?  I said we had to talk.  He said he was sorry for the things he said and for the things he didn't say and he knew he "acted in a foolish way".  I agreed.  He said he didn't want me to leave, then added "darling, stay with me".  I said "baby, I'm yours and I'll be yours until the stars fall from the sky, yours until the rivers all run dry, and I'll be yours until the sun no longer shine" and I was gonna stay right there by his side and, he didn't let me finish what I was saying.

The trading post was finished and in late winter the 1st riverboat man arrived at our port.  Hassandyn, the resource merchant, only had logs to trade but we still had no trade goods.  He said there would be a market for just about anything we might have to trade and he would spread the word that a new settlement was here on this fork of the river.  He came down from Lakeland and Newport, the river divided a ways west of here, the branch in the other direction lead to a dangerous stretch of water.  There was a new settlement over that way too, Bloomington he thought it was called, they were building a canal.  And yes, there were plenty of nomads out there looking for a place to settle.  First the floods and now heat and drought to the south. He wished us well with our resort plans, said he would sure like to see his family and this would be a perfect spot for such a place.  He was sure other river boatmen would agree.

Our hopes again began to fade over the next 2 years and again the possibility of one or both of us leaving loomed over us.  I was always concerned that Inellar and Osbornell had no other playmates, now I consider the fact they would have no other mates.  Inellar was growing up, she was a very pretty little girl but she was just that, a little girl and we did not like the way Damariel the food merchant looked at her.  Most of these river boatmen had been away from their wives and sweethearts for a very long time. Before he left, Damariel agreed a river resort for their families was a good idea. We made no trade, he had nothing we needed and we still had no trade goods stored in the trading post. We kept an eye on Inellar and made sure the river boatman left alone.  Glen said he would talk to her.

We needed to find a way to attract nomad settlers to our town.  "There must be a way we still haven't tried."

Chapter 5

As soon as the snow melt in early spring of year 11, I took over teaching the children so Glen could cut trees on the other side of the river and the stream.  We needed to be more visible from a distance.  He was trying so hard, he won't give up.  And then he made a new Welcome sign pointing the way to town.  It was a very nice sign indeed and I had every confidence that it would attract nomads and our town and dream would be saved.  It was a turning point for Riverview and one big step towards realizing our dream.

And in spring of year 12 a family of 4 arrived.  They were on their way to Smallville and saw our sign.  They would gladly stay here with us, it was difficult traveling with a 1 and a 2 year old.  Gartholoman and Ashelva were very nice and willing to lend a helping hand wherever needed.  In no time at all we had a house built for them, Ashelva took over as teacher so she could be close to home to tend her 2 little ones, and the men cut trees and collected stone and iron.  I gathered wild foods and set up a beehive and brewer barrels hoping someday soon we would be able to tend the bees and brew some mead.  We needed trade goods.  Glen said trade the mushrooms, and he and Gartholoman had a good laugh.  I didn't get the joke but it was so nice to see Glen smile and hear him laugh again.

It had been a very good year, Riverview now had a population of 8, 4 adults, 2 students, and 2 young children.

I made some signs just for emergencies. 100 - 50 - 20 - 10 - 5 -2% nomads every year.
No cost, ghosted.
100% is good for Adam & Eve. (or Glen and Livi)  :)

Mood Music: "Weave Me The Sunshine" by Peter, Paul, & Mary.

Chapter 6

In spring of year 13 we were overjoyed and a bit overwhelmed.  I was gathering herbs across the stream when 2 families of 4 stop at the new sign by the bridge.  They came from the south and were on their way to Smallville. I explained about the housing and food shortages in Smallville and told them we would be happy to have them make their home with us.  They were happy to agree.  The 4 children were ages 10, 8, 7, and 6, closer in age to our 2 but they would not be attending school.

Waiting on the other side of the bridge by the lamp post was a young couple also from the south and a second couple waited at the well. Even more surprising was the woman and her 16 year old son who arrived by houseboat. They came down from the North past Lakeland and Newport, her husband was a river boatman who they were trying to locate but the rivers have changed course so they planned to go to Riverboat Junction.  When she heard our plans for a Riverview resort she and her son decided to stay with us.  Sooner or later her husband would find them and she wanted to get off that boat.  One of the families of 4 said they would move into it, it was a very nice houseboat.

We began assigning jobs and building houses, we now had 2 builders, a trader, tailor, a woodcutter, and a new teacher.  Ashelva was now our beekeeper.  The laborers gathered wild foods and building materials.  By late summer everyone had a home and Riverview was beginning to look like a real town.   We had a population of 22, 18 adults, 2 students, and 2 young children.

In early autumn, Shaun the general goods merchant arrived.  He had a couple of food items we didn't need but we did now have some trade goods in stock.  He said other boatmen would be stopping by, word was already spreading that we were here, and he would leave word at Riverboat Junction that Machel and her son Dayle were here.  He left us with "the hope of a new tomorrow".

Thanks @embx61 that would be nice.  Those signs look good  :)  Perhaps a Riverboat Junction one, that is where all the boats are coming from.  Thoughts for that town are already forming but no notes on paper yet so it will be awhile. Or how about Big Red's Canal Co. or something like that.  :)

Mood Music: "Wonderful World" by Elvis (not to be confused with "It's a Wonderful World" also by Elvis), "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tommy James & The Shondells,  and "Love The World Away" by Kenny Rogers.

Chapter 7

That autumn of year 13 we had a visit from a small group of travelers on their way to Riverboat Junction. They came by a very roundabout way from Blomington where Mr. @RedKetchup had been inspecting the recently completed canal.  He'd heard about our plans for a resort for river boatmen and their families and wanted to see for himself if it were true.  Riverboat Junction was a very old settlement made up mostly of river boatmen and their families.  The Junction was very overcrowded and was due for a complete makeover.  He was sure many families would jump at the chance to relocate to Riverview.  That was very good news and promised a bright future for our town.

There was just one little dark cloud hanging over us, Glen and I were finding it very difficult to be alone. There was always someone there.  Where ever we went, whatever we did, there was always someone there.  If we tried to sit outside in the evening someone always came to join us.  The shed was a busy place.  Inellar and Osbornell were still at home although Inellar would be finished with her schooling come winter.  That winter we did finally get some alone time fishing at the small pond  together.  We didn't talk much but every time someone came to pick up the fish or collect wood or stone nearby, we knew what the other was thinking.

And then one bright sunny winter's day Glen surprised me by asking if there was room enough for two up on the hill.  I smiled and he smiled and he said darling, "take my hand".  We dropped our fishing poles and took off running through the snow.  We slipped and fell and helped each other up and laughted and played as we did in the old days.  It was a wonderful day it was "as bright as a day's ever been".  When we reached the top we looked out over our town and the new construction going on, he smiled and said "I think we're alone now", and then we forgot about everything else but the two of us. Up on that hill, all the magic was waiting there and we loved the world away.

Chapter 8

Riverview was a busy place all of year 14.  We escaped as often as we could, it didn't take much effort to convince Glen to follow me up the hill.  In late spring, 23 immigrants arrived from Riverboat Junctions followed by Mehalie, the livestock merchant, who was overjoyed to find his family among the new arrivals.  We traded venison, herbs, linen clothes, and a few iron tools for 3 of the sheep he had.  We would need a pasture but we also needed to build a lot of houses.  We now had 4 builders and a lot of laborers.  Across the stream we had 2 hunters and 2 foresters and 2 houses built for them.  Land was cleared for a gatherer and another house.  A very nice stone house was constructed closer to the stream and we were surprised when our Osbornell, who was still a student, moved into it with Baylene, one of the new arrivals.  Who were we to argue against love at first sight?  Inellar who finished school last winter was still at home.  The town still needed more houses.

By winter the pasture and many other buildings were still not completed.  Although we had plenty of laborers, the stone and iron were some distance away.  With snow and no outlying roads, the going was slow.  By the end of year 14 we had shortages of stone, logs, and firewood.  Our supply of food, tools, and clothes was very good and we had a population of 48, 41 adults, 1 student, and 6 young children.

Year 15 promised to be just as busy.

Chapter 9

A lot of time was spent the winter of year 14 and early spring of year 15 cutting trees and collecting resources in the woods, we barely managed to keep supply ahead of demand.  Glen and I escaped up the hill as often as we could.  In spring the town became more crowded when 7 nomads arrived from Riverboat Junction and 6 more came by houseboat.  We added 2 woodcutters and foresters as well as fishermen and hunters to our workforce.  A small smoking shed was build by the main fishing pier.  One of the newly arrived nomads said if a guy named @brads3 showed up in town he should not be allowed in the shed because smoking was bad for his health.  He may show up with a very large group of nomads, we have been warned.

Brads3 did not show up but Mehalie, the livestock merchant, did with spring chickens.  We traded mead, venison, herbs, and mushrooms for 4 chickens.  We were hoping a seed merchant would come by soon so we did not want to deplete our stock of trade goods.  Glen was now a builder, quite a bit of construction was taking place on the other side of the stream where Osbornell and Baylene still lived.  I took over tending the chickens in the field behind our house that Glen and I finally had to ourselves.   Inellar married and was now living with Lamarcus, and they took over fishing at the pond.  He was one of the recent arrivals and probably the reason she became the first one to come down with the mumps.  A small sauna was quickly built and all 3 patients survived.  We did not have the house to ourselves for long, our son, Sedricky was born in late summer.

In early winter, Hassandyn, the resource merchant, came by with firewood. We traded for all 125 units that he had.  Everyone would be snug and warm those long winter nights.  They were early nights for us with a newborn in the house once again.

Chapter 10

All too soon it was back to reality.  In early spring of year 16 there was a snowstorm of heavy wet snow that actually brought down a tree and made it very difficult for Glulia and other foresters to do their work.  Laborers were again sent out to help gather logs and stone.  Building was slow going.  After the mumps outbreak folks wanted a chapel and since a total of 16 immigrants arrived in late spring, we again needed more housing.  Two spacious houses were built, they were big enough for families of 7, the two-room snug houses were much cozier.  One family preferred to stay on the houseboat they arrived in from the north.  By year's end everyone was settled into their new homes although there were many young people still living at home that wanted a place of their own.  A forester's garden shed was built a short distance from our house but we figured we would be lucky just to have enough logs for the coming winter's firewood supply.

We were a bit discouraged.  We were impatient.  We wanted to begin building our dream.

Chapter 11

By early spring of year 17 we were one step closer to realizing our dream.  The last immigrants were homeless for a long time before we were able to build enough houses for them.  We thought a small hostel would provide temporary shelter but soon realized it was not nearly big enough for the many immigrants that kept arriving.  Of the 3 groups that arrived only 1 group decided to stay, the other 2 groups from the south wanted to go further north.  The 17 from Riverboat Junction decided among themselves who would stay in the hostel and who would wait for other housing.  We now had a population of 113, 80 adults, 4 students, and 29 young children.

We added a couple of hunters and a new gatherer to our workforce.  Another brewery was set up to make mead from the wild honey the gatherers were collecting, we needed more trade goods.  We needed a new school, many of the young children would be reaching school age soon. The school took priority over the quarry and another trading post.  We did not have enough trade goods in inventory when the seed merchant arrived but we wanted those potato seeds he had and hoped he would wait.  He waited as long as he could but not long enough.  He assured us he would be back soon and would have a lot of seeds.

By the end of the year everyone had homes but all our stockpiles were nearly empty, our log, stone, iron, and firewood supplies were extremely low but all in all, it had been a good year.

Chapter 12

In late spring of year 18, another group of 14 immigrants came down from the north via the river.  They wanted to know where they were so we began putting up some Riverview signs.  We were now convinced we had chosen a good location for our resort, river traffic was increasing.

The group that arrived from the hot, dry southwest did not want to stay.  They wanted to go further north like the others who came from that area.  It was just as well because the hostel was full and we again had many homeless people.  We also now had an outbreak of diphtheria.  The 6 patients were cured with time and medical attention.  The rainy weather did not make anyone feel better, even the deer were trying to seek shelter.

In late summer our 3rd son, Shannings, was born.  Things began looking even brighter when the river boatmen arrived.  Casandice brought sweet potato seeds and Hassandyn, the resource merchant brought logs.  We had enough trade goods for the seeds and we traded for all 100 logs hoping to improve our firewood supply for the coming winter.

We were very pleased with the progress that had been made over the last 2 year.  Our resort area had several ground level houses and one 2nd level house above the new tailor shop.  A blacksmith and butcher shop were already in business and a bakery would be completed soon.  A @kid1293 from the community made some really nice business signs.  The progress we made was a good sign for the future.

Chapter 13

The resort area of town continued to progress with the help of a forester lodge, gatherer, and a tiny mine for iron.  Everyone in town was impressed by the 3-story tower house that was built, except for maybe the mother with 2 small children up on that 3rd floor.  I too was feeling the stress of tending 2 small children as well as the flock of chickens.  One of the river boatmen brought more chickens but they would have to go in another pasture. Glen and I were living in what was now the busiest part of town, he was the forester tending the garden shed.  Being close to home and noticing my distress he said if I need my space I should take a break up on the hilltop and he would watch the boys.

From up on the hilltop I could see how much Riverview had grown.  A fantastic looking market square was being constructed on the resort side of town and the roads were being paved with stone.  In the main part of town, a grinding stone was set up to make flour from our wild oats for the bakery.  The storage barn, crates, and sheds were nicely filled and the woodcutters were kept busy chopping firewood.  We had plenty of workers for all the tasks.  Our population was 157, 90 adults, 11 students, and 56 young children.  After 19 years we had a population of 1 larger than Smallville had after 25 years.  We hoped our low education rate of 4% would improve in the coming years.

On the west side of town 2 crop fields were cleared and ready for sweet potatoes to be planted next spring.

Chapter 14

In spring of year 20 another houseboat arrived but the inhabitants did not want to stay. They had family back in Smallville, did we know the quickest way to get there?  We directed them to the old sign Glen erected so many years ago and told them to follow the stream north.  We gave them a cart of supplies to take with them in exchange for the houseboat that they were leaving here with us.

They should have good traveling weather.  We were glad it was spring, our firewood supply was again very low.  We added another woodcutter to our workforce when 9 nomads arrived from the southwest and we traded herbs and venison for firewood when Hassandyn, the resource merchant arrived.  What Riverview badly needed was educated workers.  Our production numbers could be so much better than they were.  Our woodcutters, blacksmith, tailor, and farmers could be far more productive than they were now, our harvest totals were a perfect example.  But we were doing alright, it could be worse, we must look on the bright side.

By winter a large part of Glen's dream came true.  Town women and river boatman's wives would no longer have to work hard all day and then go home to start a fire and cook super.  They would be able to stop at the market BBQ and pick up a ready made meal of venison and sweet potatoes if they wanted to.  It was a bright spot indeed when that outdoor grill was fired up for the first time that winter.  And it was a nice spot to warm up at on a cold winter day.

Chapter 15

In early spring a very impressive paddlewheel boat came down the river.  On board was a man named @Savidan .  He and the others with him were surveyors, he was attempting to make a map of the area and rivers, not an easy job because of our ever changing rivers.  The group would not be staying with us but would be leaving the paddle boat here; we could use it as we saw fit.  There was plenty of storage space on board.

When the seed merchant came by we traded for wheat seeds and later that year for sunflower seeds.  The wheat was planted immediately but the sunflowers would have to wait.

By early summer another part of the dream was completed.  A beautiful small spa was built in a peaceful spot in the eastern forest.  We now thought of our town as Riverview Resort & Spa.  And it wasn't long before yet another part of the dream became a reality.  It was a pleasant walk to the river and the new gazebo constructed at the river's edge.  The walk was beautiful in summer and golden in autumn, and boatmen's wives with their children could often be seen out on the gazebo trying to get a first glimpse of their returning loved one.

Sadly, Riverview suffered its first lost loved one when Stacio the miner was killed by a cave in.  After the memorial service in the chapel,  I took a walk back by the farm fields.  I wondered where another field could be placed that wouldn't infringe on the good hunting grounds.  I remember thinking how pretty that large house looked in the snow.  A very pretty house indeed.

Chapter 16

By early spring of year 22, most of the road were paved with stone.  Laborers had more time to collect wild foods and herbs and farmers were back in plenty of time to plant their fields.  Only 1 field of sweet potatoes was planted this year to make room for the sunflowers.  The 3rd field was again planted with wheat.

When Sham the general goods merchant came we noticed he had stone tools with a trade value of 8.  Since our blacksmith often had to wait for iron we thought it a good idea to have one of them make stone tools for trade until our stock of iron increased.

Our gatherers collected quite a bit of wild honey I notice when I was at the market.  Another brewery barrel was set up to make mead.  We had 2 bee hives and 3 breweries.

By the end of the year our inventories were good and our population was 199, 100 adults, 27 students, and 72 young children.  Baby Ayley was born to a family in the 3 story house in early spring of year 23 raising Riverview's population to 200.   The hot soup from the new soup stand by the hostel was most welcome on those chilly spring days.

Later that year I became one of the beekeepers and Glen took over tending the chickens.  The two children still at home were growing up.  Shannings would be starting school soon.  We could only hope the new school being build on the resort side of town would be finished in time.   Ernestia, the teacher at the outdoor classroom in town, noticed that the old well had many broken and crumbling stones and she worried it was not safe for the young children who often stopped to drop pebbles into it.  The well was dismantled for safety sake.

By the end of year 23 all our supply numbers were good and holding steady or increasing, all except for our food supply.  We would have to see about increasing production next year.

It could very well be the education level that stops the food production.
It's a big task taking so many nomads into town.
I guess it will even out sometime soon.

That is a problem with uneducated nomads, it is made worse with the 1:1 aging mod because children start school at age 6 so most of the nomad children have missed out on being educated.  Also a problem that 50% of the population are children.  The food production is better than I would have expected.  The smoking shed, market soup and BBQ are helping.  Low education rate was not producing enough goods to trade for seeds but that improved.  A lot to balance.  :)

with 1:1 there is several otpions. check the change log file
https://banishedinfo.com/mods/view/27-one-year-is-one-year-Update-24-16052032#changelog

there is options to the proper time mod also in the thread here, whenn it was developed. i do like the lower school age so they will become workers earlier. since it is costing you with nomads,do you know what the ages of nomad children usually is or does it varry a lot? the version i use of the propertime mod seems to be a good balance. they finish school and start work about the same age as they will marry and move together. it is hard to find a good balance to fit all situations but you might. i don't think the propertime is dependant on the walking distance as much as 1:1 is.that has a tendency to delay them becoming laborers. in the event that you decide to run a longer town, there are several options to the upper age limit also.

@brads3 I have the latest 1:1 version.  I like that they start school at 6 and finish at 12.  Real time and Proper time is school age 10 - 15.  Thanks for the link to other 1:1 versions.  Here I was getting bigger groups of nomads than usual and did notice that the groups I checked did not have young children, youngest ones were 6 & 7 so missed school. On other maps smaller groups o f nomads seemed more age balanced among children but adults were older, of what I noticed.  All in all, Riverviewians are doing okay despite low education rate and large number of children.

starting at 6 isnt too soon ?
today since maybe 50 years .. we start at 6 to go to school but if i look back in time, my father and mother they had 2 and 3 years respectively of school, barely know to write. they born in oct 1919 and july 1920. i dont know which year they started school but pretty sure wasnt at 6 years old. probably more like the game set it up for the start (10) for 2-3 y long before they start to have to work and/or have to help grandmother with other kids (for my mother) ^^ i know my father when he was young adult he was working as lumberjack

in RL here in the U.S.,normal school starts at ager 6.pre-school or kindergarten before that.bannish world and RL differ on some things.in RL young kids help at farms and around the house:canning, hunting, fishing, tending chickens, basic chores.even the sxhool year is based on that with summer vacations for haying season.
bannish doesn't allow for that. the main problem with a low school start age is the top end. they become laborers at 12,move out from parents later and marry different too.this complicates housing needs.you can end up with a 7 year old gril living alone hunting deer bigger than she is.LOLor the other extreme, that bothers people, a young 10 year old marries a 45 year old. everyone has different ideas and different play styles. that led to soo many options on the age mods.
some like the old way of having the population grow separate from the calendar year.to me that is wrong. you produce food on a year base and breed at a ,what 8x?, faster pace.it is out of sync.crops and work is 1 speed,so also breeding and population growth.made sence to me. if we want the game to be faster,in theory we should have the entire game play at 10x speed.sadly most computers won't allow us to do that.
it can be fun to find a balance that fits you. in ABANDONED'S case more so.she changes from game to game her mods qand some of her play style. i hope she finds solutions in that link to help her adjust things to fit different games.
personally i like the balanced approach.school ends about 15,then marry have kids and move out all at about the same time.lus it has a higher life span,so i can have bannies live past their 70's even. it does make housing easier to manage and control.not foolproof as you do have a bachelor sometimes who stays that way  til he dies.generally whatever my adult worker cout is divided by 2 is how many houses i should have.i do give up  a few years of work from each bannie but i think it evens out.

yes, I like school start at 6 and out at 12.  I like the 1:1aging very much, especially good for storytelling.  I just didn't expect the nomad problem with the Adam & Eve type start condition.  After 12 years I still had no nomads, many of my stories are over between 12 and 20 years.  Next time I will build them a bigger house.  :)

Chapter 17

Sadly, in late spring of year 24, one of our gatherers ate some poisonous berries and died.  Luckily, the berries were still in her gatherer's hut and were destroyed before anyone else could eat them.  Since another market had been built those berries would have quickly been distributed around town.

The apple seeds we bought at the start of year 24 were planted in a 26' x 6' orchard by 2 farmers.  The hunter's hoped they left enough of the good grazing land intact.  We could not risk lowering our food production.  In order to increase it, 2 fields were cleared on the other side of the river, and we traded for cabbage seeds in late winter.  Cabbage and sweet potatoes would be planted in those 2 fields come spring.

In spring of year 25, 22 immigrants and 1 special visitor arrived.  The last group that arrived from Riverboat Junction informed us that Mr. @RedKetchup  , the canal inspector, had been working very hard and was planning to stop by for a little rest and relaxation.   When his red-roofed houseboat came down the river we were ready for him.  We set aside an upper level apartment with a trapdoor to the roof where he could lounge in the shade of his own private tree.  How the builders got that tree up all those flights of stairs, I'll never know.  He left well before the first snow but he said he'll be back.

In late autumn, our son Sedricky, still a student, moved into the 3rd floor of that tower house with Nichel, one of the new arrivals.  By winter, we traded for beans seeds and had a 3rd field cleared across the river.  A hunter's lodge and fishing pier were also constructed over there.  We had plenty of laborers to go out to collect wild foods and herbs and iron.  Our tool and firewood supplies have dwindled so an anvil and woodcutter were also added near the new houses on the other side of the river.

Riverview had certainly grown.  We now had a population of 249, 129 adults, 52 students, and 68 young children, which made us the largest town in all the known Banished World.

Mulled wine? Never knew that but I am not a wine person.

I prefer a drop shot :)

Typical Dutch alcoholic (Not common though I think) with the taste of drop. Drop is the famous Dutch candy as Bartender can tell.
My beloved wife always bought me here in the US liqueris (Spelling?) what is pretty close to drop so at least I had my nice candy. :)

That is very interesting, I never heard of the drop.  Cider can be mulled too with spices, that I usually just heat a cup in the microwave with a stick of cinnamon in it.  But a good kettle of mulled wine has a little sugar and allspice, some raisins, lemon and orange slices stuck with cloves and heated slowly for 3 or 4 hours.  One cup and it is nap time before the fires.  :)

Yep in France Mulled wine's name is "vin-chaud" literally: hot-wine.
I did not try mulled cider, but since you drink it with cinnamon it should be good :)

Chapter 18

The main focus of year 26 was food production and housing.  There were more families than houses, more young couples wanted places of their own.  Several small houses and an outdoor classroom were built on the other side of the river.  Another pretty house would be built not far from the orchard.

Our first apple harvest was a good one, far better than we expected.  All of our crop harvests  improved or remained the same.  Our food production was the best it had ever been.

We now had enough flax and wool for 2 of our tailors to make linen and wool clothes rather than hide coats.  Our blacksmiths now had enough iron so 2 of the 3 were making iron tools now.  Our markets and trading posts were well stocked and our log and firewood supplies were also holding steady. Our education rate was slowly but steadily increasing.  It was now 16%.

Chapter 19

In late spring of year 27, 27 immigrants arrived from Riverboat Junction.  They would be the last, all of the families have now relocated, most of them having moved here to Riverview.  Since we could expect no more, there was no point building another hostel even though the currant one was again filled to capacity.  We did however need another school as several of the children with this group would reach school age soon, and of course we needed more housing.

Glen was back to being a builder so I saw very little of him during this time.  The builders were working from sun up to sun set on a variety of different houses around town. The laborers were also extremely busy delivering building supplies and gathering resources. Riverview was a very busy place.  By autumn everyone had a home but the hostel was still full, and there were herbs and wild foods to collect.

I escaped a few times up to the top of the hill and in late winter I took a walk out behind our house to the river where I could see the Smallville sign that Glen erected when he and I arrived in this river valley so many years ago.  There were just the 2 of us then, and now there were 300.

Riverview had certainly grown and changed although the original settlement was much the same as it was  and there were still plenty of fish in the pretty little pond.  We were so proud of the Riverview Resort & Spa side of town, a dream come true for sure.  And the farming areas across the river to the south and across the creek to the west have grown and become quite productive.  In year 28 we planted potatoes for the first time in one of the fields.

And then one day Glen surprised me by saying he had something to show me on the east side of town.  And then just like that day so long ago at the fishing hole,  I smiled and he smiled and he said darling, "take my hand".  I did and we headed east across town.

Chapter 20

I said, "Where are we going,"  he said, " You'll see."  I wondered what it could be that I hadn't already seen.  We passed the hostel and the row of businesses and the school and market BBQ.  When we came to the gazebo we turned east and headed through the trees past the fishing pier.  It was not until we passed Mr. Red's R&R retreat tower that I got my first glimpse of the surprise.  It was a magnificent tower, 6 stories tall.  Glen smiled and said, "Come on, Livi darling, let's see how high we can climb."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s7CXHVJCMcg

One step at a time we climbed way up to the top of the stairs.  The rooftop retreat was beautiful, with room enough for two.  Up on the roof it was "as peaceful as can be" and "the air was fresh and sweet."  It was a paradise that's trouble-proof, with a nice view of the river from Riverview.

Yes, weary traveler, together he and I rose above it all and we left the world behind.  At least for a time.
