I got a simple docking slot in my case where I can push in 3.5" SATA HDD, using only when needed, for example if I really decide that I want to archive a downloaded movie - this happens only with the best.
I use the tool HotSwap! to unload the HDD after use:http://mt-naka.com/hotswap/index_enu.htm
Same with complete TV series, only a few make it.
When not in use the HDD is inside an anti-static HD plastic box, like tupperware for data.
Like many people I burnt too much CDs/DVDs several years ago, then the 1080p came, the .mkv format became popular and now all the movies and series in DVD-R format are wasting space (and wasted money).
A couple of (well conserved) HDDs in a cupboard is better than hundreds of DVDs.
