Historic Harbor Addon
« on: September 05, 2014, 05:07:55 PM »
For those who still play SC4 -

the Historic Harbor gang has just released an epic addon -

http://community.simtropolis.com/files/download/29880-historic-harbor/

* Close to two years in development over at simpeg.com (my 'home base')... so I'm proud of them, even if I had not much to do with the production aside from beta testing... and loooong discussions... LOL   ;)

Thanks for the link.  I downloaded it even though I have never had much luck building on shorelines in SC4.  I wasn't thrilled by the new Add-fly download interface, but I suppose Simtropolis has to raise more money somehow.   :(

You're very welcome  :)
Yeah, shoreline-development can be tricky, sometimes needs quite a bit of preparation (terraforming)...

I heard about this, but have never seen or encountered it... Did you maybe try to dl before logging in?

I find that when I want to build any of the waterfront add-ons I have to do some serious shoreline terraforming while still in the pre-game "God mode" phase. I was having lots of trouble getting it right until I lowered the sea level out of sight, worked out a straight shore line, then re-raised the sea level. It takes a lot of trial and error with the leveling tool. Unfortunately, that also requires patience.  :(

I think it is mostly a matter of practice  ;)
If you use the Pegasus Leveller (specially developed for shore lines) and the on-board terraforming brushes with low pressure, then you don't have to fiddle with sealevels (which indeed is a pita)...

But you are right - one definitely has to have patience, specially when one of the plops decides to 'sink in' a bit and you have two or three neighboring segments 'exploding' while you try to repair the damage...  ;D

Been there, done that, started the map over!  ;D

I've been playing for a very long time.  Shorelines are most easily handled with the Mayor Mode levelling tool using the various options to control the effect.  Here is a review:

CTRL cuts the effect circle for the brush in half
SHIFT double it
SHIFT+n (1 <= n <= 0) controls the diameter of the brush
SHIFT+n+Fm (1 <= m <= 10) controls the weight of the brush

The lower the number the less the effect.

Hitting shift alone resets everything.

Go not to the oracle, for it will say both yea and nay.
