Title: Construction Mats
Post by: irrelevant on October 21, 2014, 01:24:40 PM
Are Logs, Stone, and Iron the only possible construction mats? In other words, is it possible for a structure to require that some other resources besides these three be placed on the building footprint before construction can begin?

Oh! Right! Log + Warm Coat.

Could a building require Logs, Stone, and say, Steel Tools?

So you could have a building that required construction materials that were products created in some other building.

you can make an house requiring :

bricks ( clay transformed into red bricks in another building )
Wood planks ( logs cutted into wood planks in a sawmill..)
and glasses (sand turn into glass in another build)

till you define 3 material maximum

So in this way it would be possible to create multi-step production chains. You would have to build a building that produced a specific product that was required to build the next building. And that building could make a product that was required as a material in the next building, etc.

and then you can put an upgrade button on that paricular house (nowhere else in any toolbars) and ask to upgrade it in super isolated house which will require:

fiber mineral wool (created inside another building)
styrofoam (created inside another building)
furniturs (created also in another building)

and that new building will have also a button to upgrade into something else ....

and the only way to get to these final home of death .... or paradise IMO , would be by clicking on the upgrade buttons that is showing nowhere else ^^

of course they would 'appear' to destroy the previous one ..... but you can RP about it  ^^ (RP = Role Playing ^^)

That's very good food for thought; thanks @RedKetchup

Are you considering making anything along those lines?

but something you cannot do is take 1 single house and make it a duplex or triplex (2 story , 3 story houses) or a manor which will have 3-4 family ^^ (only 1 family will live inside and have babies ^^)

Yes, but you have shown everyone the way to work around these limits  :)

Seriously, what's to stop you from making a 3rd story for your two-story house?

hehe yeah :)

with my Genius Graphic Overlap System ™ ^^

you cant also ask to take a 4x4 and upgrade into a 6x6 building :P you need to reserve the space for it before.

Right, I saw what you did. But you still have to be careful, it seems that anything can be built on top of the fenced section of the ground floor.

@irrelevant

Yes you can use steel tools as a building resource. My sawmill mod uses exactly that.

I hope you are not.

The great thing with Banished is that you can (theoretically)  build everything from the start. Don´t have to use these production-chains, to build a good building. This makes this game unique. Don´t take that away, too much (small exceptopns, OK) but please no big things.

Well, @Nilla, like any mod, it would be totally optional. Some people are interested in such a thing.

I'm just asking. I've never even tried to mod so much as a stick. ;)
