I don't know if you are planning to pre-fill your large greenhouse with plants/trees the way Red has has pre-filled his greenhouses, but I would really like to see an empty greenhouse plus a set of ghost plants so we can fill it ourselves. That way each greenhouse can look different, rather than all of them looking the same. It also lets you match the plants inside to the crops that the greenhouse is producing. Just an idea for you to consider.  :)

I have heard. And listened carefully.
Yes, I've got RK's food to make them ghosted and I will make some greenhouses (empty).

All tropical vegetables/fruit will have a place. What do I do with ordinary plants? Carrots, turnips and all?
I can make them all ghosted and make a menu that has everything and you choose.
But it does not seem fair to compete against field cultivation and other greenhouses.
Soon RK will have more tropical plants so maybe it will only be 'hothouses'.  ?
And those ever present apricots. I hope they come. :)

A lot of questions. Maybe I chew off too much by making this my next project, but it was already
in my mind. When @elemental came with the idea of ghosted plants it fitted perfectly.

Shall I make 'pots' to put the plants in?
Or is it enough with soil texture inside the greenhouse and free to place the plants?
That way you can put them anywhere.

@kid1293  would it be possible to have maybe 2 sizes of pot that choice of plant could be put into if desired?  That way the ghosted plant could also be used elsewhere like in your vegetable garden field or in a workplace fenced backyard as well as in the greenhouse.

There is the question about height of the pot.
With low plants - Watermelon, cucumber - there is not much to work with.
And with trees - it's ridiculous to put a 20 foot tree in a 1 foot pot.

I like to have pots, but then I have to adjust all plants for the pots and, of course,
someone wants a version without pots.

I guess the layout of the greenhouse could be altered with edged boxes but
it somehow makes them not so flexible.

So, an even soil in all of the greenhouse. That way I keep RK's models and
you are free to put them anywhere. You can even put cucumbers outside the White House. :)

oh LOL, no comment on white house gardening.

I thought pots and heights would be a problem.   I think this will be a fantastic mod, I love the tomato greenhouse and I am also looking forward to Red's crop mod, and to using his garden utility mod soon.  First I am doing Natural Diversity and your Forest Outpost (NatDiv) , wish me luck.

not sure what the plan is. what about expanding on the veggy garden idea? make a mix veggy 1,grain,and a mox fruit 1? this way you are only making 3.then the player can mix the plants.you already have a sorter just need to expand it to work for grain and fruits. as to the pots, how bout raised beds on a table as 1 option.
Title: Re: Botanical Garden WIP
Post by: kid1293 on July 06, 2017, 09:15:47 AM
I can only say it's a lot ofmodels from RK.
People want them ghosted. ( ghosted cabbage? )
All these models have to be one version for each height.
I don't think one pot is enough. You need several.
I can maybe make the impression of a (low) bed in the greenhouse
but then I lock the placement to that bed.
Or do you propose I should make plants with attached pots?
How many heights? And the trees? In a bucket?
I could make different fields and several ghosted greenhouses.
Or I could just do it my way and pretend it's raining. :)

@kid1293 regarding greenhouse with options and ghosted: my thought is do it your way basic no pots and maybe 3 types of greenhouse, vegetable, small fruits like berries, and tropical fruit trees.  Brad is talking about changing the vegetable garden mod.  The greenhouse and ghosted plants is a big enough project, I think.

 >:(

I give up! Was not thinking straight, blame the good food and all distractions...

How on earth am I going to remove plants in the greenhouse?
They will be ghosted and have a menu button to remove them.
I must be able to click on them.
They are under roof and I can not click on them.

No, sometihng else is needed.

but told me he wants a mini trader with seeds AND livestock.

i dont have a mini trader building ... so i would need to make one and pass 4-6-8 hours on this...

They are small, so he is welcome to try.

did you try the CC tropical greenhouse? it isn't great but does use up bonemeal and give some vitamin C crops.i tink it needs a overhaul both to the texture and the yields.

Ouch. That's a bit of a problem.

But it's not a deal-breaker... You could make a removable ghost roof (free to build) for the greenhouse. Then if we want to remove the ghosted plants we first remove the ghost roof. It's not very realistic but it would (should) work. Actually you could even make a few different roofs with different heights, to allow for different sized plants/trees.  :)

So will this greenhouse be made of glass?
Title: Re: Botanical Garden WIP
Post by: elemental on July 06, 2017, 04:10:22 PM
Ground level is good because there are already a lot of ghosted plants that can be used without you needing to do anything to them. I know some people here don't use CC but they do have a huge range of deco ghost plants and trees, including banana palms. Maybe you could borrow some of their plants to include in your mod, for those who don't use CC?

Benches and raised planter beds and pots are a good idea but it does sound like a lot of work. It's entirely your choice how much you want to do with this.  :)

@elemental beat me to it :)

It's what I do with the shelters and covers you've made @kid1293 when I can't get to something under them, I simply remove them, then build them back up.  I don't see something like that as being a deal breaker on this awesome sounding project :D

Will you be doing the plants in such a way that they can be used with Emb's irrigation?
A good hothouse does need irrigation, and I had hoped that the plants that we would grow, we could show :D

I'm good with the puns and the rhymes lately ;)  hahaha

Oh, @elemental I could tell you a thing or 2 about Van Damme ;)
How anyone could ever accuse him of faking his success is beyond me, you don't get to be 56 and still pull that *marvels* off ...  (some nonce accused him of faking his 'skills' ... honestly) ...

Ahhhh ... hopefully in the great relocation we manage to find my old American Ninja DVD's too with Michael (forgot, damnnit) .... google ... Anyway ... I'm an old Kickboxer tart, lol.

Or ....  and underground warm water hotspring :)

Actually ...  I've just come up with a new idea ...  I'mmmmma gonna get in trouble.

@kid1293 & @embx61 what if there was a way of 'piping in' the irrigation pipes from the irrigation system into the Botantical Garden?  Visual (as we can't 'use water') tool - so we see it all plumbed in - but, for the sake of 'doability', what if Kid was able to give us a wall piece that we could choose - either, solid to match the original design, OR - new, that can be replaced with a wall piece that has a joiner from Emb's irrigation - so, the hosing runs right up to the panels.

Then, it's up to Kid, if he wants something to then show inside (using modular pieces), or not.  So, not just bringing the plants outside to sit on the irrigation channels, but bringing the water inside, to bring the plants alive.

*hides behind JCVD

It's true that large greenhouses did use to have a boiler underneath them to keep them warm when it was freezing outside. They cost a fortune to run. Rich people showing off - that's what it was all about.

I think I'll use some magic fire. :)

Irrigation? Sounds nice, but it complicates things if someone
doesn't have EB's irrigation and my grenhouses need water.
Do I then have to make a water supply too?

Removable roof? That was odd.
I have finally found some peace after the heavy downturn yesterday,
all I want is to maintain that peace.
I will continue but for now I am not sure how.

Post by: QueryEverything on July 07, 2017, 05:38:40 AM
Ahhh @kid1293 we have cookies too on this Dark Side, not just VanDamme ;)

The irrigation idea is just a visual one - ie:  the pipes just run up to the building, so they look like they are working, but they are not - beauty over function :)
Like this, so the idea is that the pipes (not these ones, these are just to give you an example, I'm talking about the WIP ones that Embx has) can run up to the building, and with your fire magic, have the illusion of a fully equipped hot house.

With a part in the wall that would be able to have the pipes connect, so not a 'real hose', but just looking like it connects :)  Does that make more sense?

I looked for peace, I still do ... I have a kitten who chases sunshine now, that helps pass the time :)  And then there is now JCVD ...  Netflix has a lot to answer for lately, lol! :D

Hmmm..  (counting bodies) All survived the ninja attack!

I have been occupied with those ideas for a generic greenhouse.
It can be done with removable roof. I won't do that.
It can be done with preset models. I don't like it but it has to do.

This is how it is - I do what I like to keep me in a good mood and now
I may have found a way out of this mess. Have to be tested first.
It involves a Gardening Shed (what else) and some special greenhouses.
Special in that they produce only a few things. What is seen in them.
See picture.

I will continue and update you when I think a piece is almost finished.

oh my, that greenhouse looks really nice, that tree high roof looks great. These will be great for the North.  Since it matches the herb & spice garden, I would like one that has a walnut tree, pumpkins, and maybe corn = spice nut bread, pumpkin pie, spice cake.  Looking forward to knowing what other combinations there will be.

A thought: what about placing a small well and bucket of water (washing mod) inside.

Looks great your way  :)

Have you been to the potting shed? (clue for future extension)

Well, I wanted to honor @embx61 and make his Oilpress more used.
So- while you wait for seeds - build a Nursery.
Only Sunflower Kernels but it is also a nice building. :)

Going to fix menu. You don't need a menu for one item.

Is it working? Yes. second picture.

Now with RK's Decoration Crop out of my hair I can continue with this mod.
I will use the crops, just wait.

I have to make some models and test before I can show you what's happening.

I mentioned potting shed and there is where I start.
I will add several small plots for farming (with deco crops of your choice)
and a production-menu when you click the shed. Perfect for a small farmhouse.
I'm just worried about the numbers. Not too little, not too much...

I will make plots in sizes 4x3 6x4 7x7 (there is reason for those numbers)
Title: Re: Botanical Garden WIP
Post by: kid1293 on July 10, 2017, 09:30:26 AM
How to make a vegetable.

1. Find a place where you want your vegetable to grow.
2. Build a potting shed and a plot.
3. Place your chosen vegetable.
4. Build a greenhouse to protect your vegetable.
5. Enjoy!

This is what you wanted.  ;)
I will make two more plots and two more ghosted greenhouses (slightly larger).
Don't stay up, I'm tired, so you have to wait 'til tomorrow.

Thanks for watching my tutorial, I hope you like it.  :)

So the pot shed is just a small building what also set the pathing were the Bannies can walk and not.

Then select what to grow just like crop fields and then the greenhouse can be placed ghosted over the top of it all.

Brilliant :)

Haha, I had the feeling you guys would like this :P.. I've uploaded it to the Laboratory ;).

I actually had the same idea as you @RedKetchup with the water material ;).. I got pretty far with that, but I just couldn't get the reflections to work properly. Mr. Luke set the reflections in such a way that they work perfectly when the plane is horizontal, but if you try to rotate it they get all messed up. Changing the direction of the reflection is done in a very complex way, and I just haven't been able to get it right. I'm not even sure if it would be possible to set it in such a way that it would look good from all directions, but maybe one day I'll figure it out :P. That would be even more awesome, glass that actually shows reflections.

The to do list is gigantic and in no way I am able to keep up with all the request's.

I just pick out of all those requests what I feel like I want to do at the moment and that is all I can do.

I always put windows in the model in case I could figure it out.

Now that @Bartender solved the problem (really really nice!) I am glad I put the windows in.

The cows were made by Shock and I think Shock was able to change them so they work in Banished from a paid mesh.

However most paid for meshes don't work with banished as Luke does something different then the "standard" of doing animations.

I bought a mesh too a good while back for study but it brought me nowhere.
Animations is a thing all by itself in 3d modelling software and it take a long time to learn that.

I finally send the files to kralyerg so Shock could take a look but never received answer.
I guess Shock could not make that mesh working either.

They have both been very quiet for ages. They might not be interested in Banished modding anymore.

but if we put transparent glasses in the housing....
we will need to put floors ...  interior walls ...  furniture ...  curtains ... LOL

Ha ha, you make a good point.

With clear glass windows, we'd be able to see inside the ugly houses that have no furniture or floors or carpets or wallpaper....

the cow mesh was me who bought it with some of the donations...
and yeah , Shock got to delete the "bones" and redoing it completly. so i paid like for nothing out of the fact that is Shock who did the big part of the work.

i wish so much if i would able to learn how to do, and know exactly what it really need to be done to be compatible with banished.

everyone are super good at something.... and me i am just not too bad at almost everything lol  :'(
i wish there is a domain i would be the master or the demigod lol

Don't talk yourself down Red.

You are a awesome good modder and I learned so much from you.
Look at all the mods you pumped out over the last 2 - 21/2 years.

People love your Mods and they are downloaded and played with a lot and players still play them a lot. :)

The thing is, there is always someone who spent a lot of time to figure something new out.

Those srls files are not for me either so I not look much into them.
Lets be happy some other modders look at that stuff and figure something out with them so we all benefit from it.

We all learn from each other one way or the other.

When I came on WoB I did not know a thing about 3d modelling and you guided me through it.

It was slink, Cossacks, Black liquid, and you at the start together with a few more who are all gone by now like ragingnonsense, Owlsomething.

Then I started to pick it up slowly and had fun with it, and then came Kid, Necora, Tom Sawyer, Discrepancy, Tany, Bartender, Despo_20.

I think how we share our meshes, code, helping each other makes WoB so wonderful.

I said it before, Black Liquid is maybe a real Team in the sense of words but we are a team too, and a good one at that :)

Well you may not have invented moving water or glass but you have given us canals and greenhouses. And a ton of other stuff as well. You know we all appreciate it.  :)

Just a small status update.
Will remake the Herb Garden (because I want to, don't hit me)
and another small thing, then testing begins.

tsk, tsk, tsk, Mr. @RedKetchup must I remind you again?  Where do I begin, old seedling greenhouse, colorful little 2 story house, red looking creamery, old bakery, blacksmith, tailor, with 2nd floor residence, old hunter with residence, Choo Choo, and those are just the small mods,  the list goes on and on.  Those are all pretty super to me.

Pushes @kid1293 off his chair away from his computer before he changes herb garden.

Just a tiny change? I want to move the walls a little bit for that extra I do not want to talk about, but you have guessed it anyway ?, it will probably look almost the same...

... fell off the chair.

What about animal animations? @RedKetchup , do you know how to do those? I know you made some cows but I'm not sure if you animated them or if shock or someone else did it. Maybe @Bartender could take a look at that?

(I know it's bad... he gives us nice things and we keep asking for more. The curse of the genius.  :) )

Haha, I'm afraid that animated buildings and adding lights into the game is definitely beyond the capabilities of both me and the modkit :P..

Now being able to do animations for animals is something I'd really like, but so far I haven't been able to figure it out. Like Red, I've tried it quite a few times, mainly on trees, but for some reason it's just not working no matter how I try it. I find it quite a shame that Mr. Shock has never really shared his secret in a way that others are able to reproduce it. Now that he is no longer active there's nobody that can do it, and the knowledge is simply lost.. This is the main reason why I always share what I find ;).

Perhaps collectively you could all ask Luke for a better tutorial/guide on how to do it. He's been unusually generous lately, so you might get lucky.  :)

@RedKetchup   why would you want to demote yourself to demigod?

Helps @kid1293 up off the floor, gets him another cup of coffee, milk or sugar?  Waits patiently for greenhouses and herb garden.  :)
