Title: Democracy 3
Post by: Kaldir on May 25, 2014, 03:25:01 PM
Has anyone here played Democracy 3 (http://www.positech.co.uk/democracy3/) (or one of it's predecessors)?

I've tried a demo for #2 (http://www.positech.co.uk/democracy2/demo.html) and certainly liked the basic concept of the game. It has a unique gameplay and interface compared to nowaday games. But it also felt somewhat shallow and monotonous, although that could have been because the demo had limited gameplay. So I can't really decide if this game is okay or not.

If you played it, please let me know what appealed to you, or what you hated about it.

I recently bought this game, in the Steam Summer Sale. I've only tried one run on easy difficulty, and it's quite intriguing. There's all those different social groups that your citizens are members of, from the traditional Socialists and Capitalist to Farmers and Parents. Citizens are members of multiple groups. As all-mighty PM you adopt policies that will please some groups and displeases others, and that cost or provide money. Maintaining a budget is tricky, and meanwhile you have to please enough of the plebs so they will vote for you every four years.

I'm not sure how long it will hold my attention, but for now it's nice to have a game that is actually quite different from most games available.

As I remember (I'm not at my computer this week so can't check), the size is pretty small, just a few hundred MBs. It's quite similar to Banished in file size.

(posting from my other reply here..)

Oh, I tried out Democracy because of Demonocracy here.. :p
Took me 3-4 attempts to finally get around to explore the game, as it seemed complicated at the start and I didn't feel like trying to learn a new game while I was still enamoured with Rimworld. I finally got around to playing one game (at easy mode) between Rimworld and Factorio, just to see what the game was all about .. Fun, but I didn't feel inclined to play more than 1 game on it. I'm sure I'll try it out another map sometime later. It is an interesting game of Cause & Effect and is very believably realistic, but not something that I want at the moment.
