There's some great suggestions in this thread but I can't help but hold out hope that someone will make a mod that gives the houses lights. Especially in winter, or heavy rain. It would be nice if the windows lit up like the houses in Settlers VI (I think it was). In that game you could also make banners, candles, outdoor furniture and weather vanes for the houses to be decorated with.
Please someone just make interior lights so I can play in bliss. :)
