Poll : New Livestock package.

If it would happends if we would do a pack of new livestock, how many new livestock would you see and wish to be added ? and which animal would you like to see being added ?

personally i would love also to see a fix that would add milk produced by cows (about same mechanic as eggs)

Goats could have milk, as well. And pigs, well they have bacon, what more do they need?  ;D

3: pigs (meat and bacon), goats (milk and cheese) and turkeys (better than chicken).

I did consider Turkeys, then thought twice. At present when hovering over a chicken pen the noise is almost unbearable after a few seconds of constant squawks. I could not imagine  how awful Turkeys would be to listen to. :(

I would particularly like to see some kind of Goat/Milk/Cheese mod and maybe something with pigs? Pig skin for cheaper coat maybe?

i should be :) just need to figure out which text .rsc i need to modify and include them in my package. and also , only there,  i ll be able to see all my other graphic files lol, the buckets should spawn like the eggs are spawning, same spot inside the little shelter of the pastures :)

i'll check that this afternoon or tonight. i need to get out and when i ll comeback... i ll fall asleep hehe, problably, depending of the ... adranaline lol

Will the Milk count as protein, like eggs?
Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: RedKetchup on August 30, 2014, 03:37:15 AM
yeah i put edible / protein

the options are :
   RawMaterialFlags _flags = Edible | Protein | Fruit | Vegetable | Grain;

icant put it anywhere else

Makes sense, dairy does have protein.
Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: Bobbi on August 30, 2014, 05:40:42 AM
So a new category "dairy" cannot be created? I was hoping for a mod that would use a chain of milk to cheese maker, new building/profession. I guess that could still happen with milk as a protein.
Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: A Nonny Moose on August 30, 2014, 05:56:53 AM
Let's see:

Dairy herd: Milk, cheese production, etc.

Goats: Milk, cheese production, meat, (spider silk)

Swine:  meat

Bison:  meat

Turkey: Ornery, but bigger and better than chickens

Geese:  Down production, meat

Domestic Ducks (maybe combined with Geese - pond critters).

Nearly forgot -- Horses to help work the farms.  Oxen?  These come in ones and twos unless the farm is going to be a breeder.

Sheep dogs (border collies) would be a welcome addition to purchase from a trader.

Hi All,

Blackwoods goats are coming, the animations and textures are ready for in engine testing. For those that have not met William E. Goat yet, here is a capture of him doing his thing in the perspective view-port of my 3D app. What you see here is about 25% of Billy's quality as opposed to the final render.

Hmmm, there dose not seem to be a simple way of embedding the video, will do a still render of him and post that.

Hi Again Graphite !

so little news about where i am.. not far, cause i have some real problem with the .fbx and meshes.... it s just a such pain. i cant make anything good :( its not that much the .fbx but the progs which do that format, 3ds max worth nothing you need to have a 5 years courses in CAO to use it :( you find nothing, and the surfing and using is totally at the opposite of friendly, of what people do.... it s extremly bad.

but i have sucessfully getting milk from cows. and it push me to ask a question : what you think a 20x20 pasture full of cows should give in milk , per year ? what you think a good number is ? not too few, not too much, i dont want it OP :P but, keep in mind, they seems to works like eggs, it s kinda once per 2-3-4 months. what would be a good number of milk for one year ?

Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.

Max chicken pasture gives ~3000 eggs. I think its too much for milk, 1400-1800 sounds good.

Hey Red ;)

oh man,

(http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n304/ddt_teamintegra/Gif/36_11_6.gif)

welcome to the world of 3D ... and omg they want you to give them money as well ;) Perhaps have a look at the tutorials within 3dsmax?

re: the cows, Bongs suggestion sounds like a good starting point, but at the end of the day the only way you will get the balance right is by testing the mod. Testing is also so important for stability issues.  Is it stable at 100/500/1000 pop for a year ... that kind of thing.

Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: RedKetchup on August 31, 2014, 01:40:38 AM
it cant give what chicken are doing with eggs cause chickens are 66 in a 20x20, cows are the lowest pop ones (20 only) so eggs are pop'ing very more often than for cows. i was testing lately at 64 milk per 'event'and probably i ll need to test 96 and 128.

but probably , it will never be done cause i m stopped by a huge wall : the stupid meshes that comes from a .fbk you need to provide.

the best i can do is : get cows to provide an amount of milk every 2-3-4 months, and when it happends, you see on the ground an 'egg' pop'ing which worth X milk units. and there is no SmallPNG side of the name, like last screenshot, only the name.

thats what it will stop 99,8 % to do and create things for Banished. the only thing people can do is .... play with the numbers, thats all (for the 99.8% of players).
and what doesnt neither, the guy doesnt give any explanation. he made 3-4 combined example, and said : do that. thats all. he didnt say why nor how.
Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: RedKetchup on August 31, 2014, 01:46:47 AM
or i can create the milk, with an awesome icon, and can only bought from merchants or maybe, created in a different building like ... 'a milkery' a ... 'DairyQueen' lol, and there will never be anything on the ground. but there is a potential problem. what will happend if someone is carrying some milk and .... die ? the game will probably crash or acting strangely asap the milk pot should have dropped on the ground ^^

Edit: or 3rd, someone makes my a nice .fbx with the png + AO.png like this little Milk bucket in attachment. ^^

Post by: graphite on August 31, 2014, 03:16:28 AM
Hey Red,

I understand the frustration your feeling at this point, have been there many times my friend, but when the penny drops, and it will, its pure bliss ;)

Okay, so what happens to goods being carried when someone dies in a vanilla version of the game? and there should lie the answer to that question. If you wanted to stress test it... set lifespan =20; var 1; will make everyone die at the age of 19;20; or 21.

RE: modelling. Start simple 2m cube, import into banished as a house, see if you can do that ... do you know how to make an AO {ambient occlusion} map? Even if you don't, just give it a pure white map for the AO. Its main purpose is to provide luminosity for the model. I've got a lot on my plate this week ... but I'll try and work out whats going on if I've got the time ;)

Cheers

Well It seems like a lot of people are having trouble ... so I thought I best jump into max to see what the issues, if any, are with *.fbx files ... and I'm sorry to say this Red, but all is well with *.fbx.

Sorry I'm late to this thread--fishing for a week out of reach of internet. Very relaxing.

But: Would it not be possible to make goats and/or cows (or camels or sheep for that matter) produce meat and milk like cows produce meat and leather? Then couldn't there be a processor who uses milk to make cheese they way a tailor uses leather and wool? I've down loaded the mod kit but haven't really studied it yet to see if I even understand it, so this suggestion might be totally off base. Given the era of Banished you might not want people drinking fresh milk, but even that could work the way coal does, could it not?

Oh my, the poor livestock thread has certainly been derailed ... we may need the intervention of the big Chihuahua to setup a modding tutorial thread?

So the issue is not with max Red, it's just that you don't have a grasp on 3D workflow ;)

This is what you need to do;

open lettuce.png in your 2D app of choice.

(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98905290/Bannished/Max%20tut/lettuce_01.png)

make a selection of the lettuce material and replace with a milk image> and save.

(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98905290/Bannished/Max%20tut/lettuce_02.png)

Now go and open the lettuce.fbx in 3dsmax .... and there you go .... milk ;)

(https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/98905290/Bannished/Max%20tut/milk.jpg)

cheers mate

ya that i figured tonight, maybe 1hr after i posted. (and it s not a lie, i figured it alone. iron cross, wood cross, on the head of my deceased mother ^^)

i take the lettuce.fbx and apply the png and the AO ... and it works ! BUT...
it happends to work only if i do a new building : Dairy.

it refuses to work with my kit i made which i create the resource and drop from the pasture. i always get compile errors and i lost 6 hrs tonight to try to figure out why it doesnt work. i always get  errors and i cant figure out . i just copied from when it works to the other where doesnt work :( and the most annoying thing is, my sprites are good and it has nothing to do with the fbx and model :S

but if i use the Dairy building and i add the pasture to it , it still work !!! but i cant make it work alone :S i passed 6hr to try to figure out... and i just cant see what is the problem :(

check at my screenshot !

INCOMING NEWS !!!!!!! tada!

so ! .....

what i did... i did a kinda.... reverse engineering lol

I took my code which worked perfectly with Dairy House (Apiary building) and Pasture : Cattle and......

i deleted the profession ! and i deleted the 'toolbar-food' data.... (with the code i deleted, it doesnt even code the building anymore)

and STILL WORK !!!!!!!!!!!!!

there is no profession ! there is no icon in food toolbar ! pasture:cattle drop regulary milkpot on the ground (working on the numbers now) ^^

(http://worldofbanished.com/gallery/37_01_09_14_7_05_18.jpeg)

So Now Question :

How much Milk should give One 20x20 cattle pasture in One Year ? ? ? ? ? ? dont forget it is One 20x20 i asked, not a 10x20 or a 12x16 ^^

i wish to get 5-6 answers please !

I don't normally raise cattle, how much beef and leather does a 20x20 typically produce? And are you thinking of this as just a straight addition to this, or is it a replacement? Dairy cattle normally don't get used for beef.

solution:

open *.fbx
delete the lettuce model {it is referencing the leaf material}

and all should be good ;)

   DetailLevel _detailLevel
   [
      {
         float _transitionDistance = 10000.0;
         String _subObject = "lettuce"; //also delete this line and any others with reference to the subOjects in the mesh
         ImageBuffer _image = "Models\MaterialInstance\MilkAO.rsc";
      }

Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: RedKetchup on September 01, 2014, 10:14:08 AM
what i see , the plant = lettuceleaf and the bucket= lettuce. i reopend the fbx and while selecting the bucklet, and gone to editable poly, at top it was still writen 'lettuce' so i changed it to 'milk' and re-exported

if i try to compile it says '(null)' ,  but if i put now the line in milkmesh.rsc:

         String _subObject = "milk";

i dunno if it accept it but i get error : cant find lettuce.rsc <= he is back to that, so there is something somewhere where is tag 'lettuce' , how does he knows that lettuce.rsc 'should' exists ?

LOL

Edit: the lettuce.rsc => lettuceTextures => lettuce.png (repainted in white)
so in the fbx it needs to paint the bucklet with the white(old green-ish) so it has certainly a link to it, he knows what to take to paint it, but i cant find where it s written in the fbx :(

this is why i asked your help.

if we cant get that fixed, that mean the lettuce crop MOD will be in conflit with it.

okay that indicates that you have not applied the NEW textures you made to the models, I'm surprised it didn't bitch when it could no longer find the old ones :)

go to my thread here: http://shiningrocksoftware.com/forum/discussion/1956/graphites-shed/p2 (http://shiningrocksoftware.com/forum/discussion/1956/graphites-shed/p2)

there I explain how to apply textures to models in 3dsmax.

Also go into the UI dir: there are more references to it there, check them all red ;)

For those new to modding, this is what happens when you try a Jerry Build ... you will spend so much time chasing why it won't work, that your better off making your own asset templates, and starting with a clean slate ;)
Title: Re: Poll : New Livestock package.
Post by: RedKetchup on September 01, 2014, 11:37:19 AM
i didnt applied the change, i only open the lettuce.png with photoshop and i colored the green with white and re-saved. and later on you said the same thing, to go color the green to white. nothing about i needed to go in 3ds max and change something (out to select the plant and delete ^^)

about my UI dir , everything is changed there.

gonna go check your tuto, i just hope it is written in a way i can get what you mean ^^

go into the material editor and give the material the same name as the imaged used.

01-default is a 3dsmax naming convention for materials; lol

i think i even did better, i took one of the screenshot and i cut the pot, and put back some light on it resized to 32x32 ... i think it look great now. i love it :)

yeah this one has been rendered by the game in 3d, it s not just white painting with a 1 pt brush ^^ there are some .. light effects on it :)

just need to test it on 3-4 years and see the numbers :) i aim for a 1800 full 20x20 and 900 for a 10x20.
it s maybe more than a crop but keep in mind thats 20x20, so ... it s takes alot and alot of space. and also , since people have plans to make cheese with it, it can be a 3 for 1, 3 milk for 1 cheese or maybe 2 ... and add some flour with it and you have bread and/or cherry pies

hmmmmmm cherry pie ^^

so the numbers i have presently is around 80 milk (78-82) per cattle per year i tested with some different pasture layout. all dépends if the new milk bucket appear before or after the happy new year :)

i ran it for like 3-4 years long while i was making errants ^^. i ll change 1 little icon the 16x16 icon which the townhall inventory use and i ll release it for people :)
i like these numbers, personally.

It's ~1600 for full size pasture, seems good to me. It will be challenging to make cheese if it comes to that- 2 pastures minimum :D

we usually get 100 ? 200 ? 300 ? 500 ? crops per map .... but we never get, or rarely more than 5? 10 ? 20 ? pastures in a game. so definetly, a not too much number later in the game.
and most of them, they are usually sheep. so will be a nice boost to push people to take back the cattles :)

just the chickens are kind useless, maybe with eggs and ... cherry pie ? ^^

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but at some point it might be great to have horses and carts. Maybe too hard ? I'm not a modder...
