Title: Suggestion: Soup kitchen
Post by: Gatherer on September 02, 2016, 12:54:42 PM
Kid1293's barbecue got me thinking about a soup kitchen. What about a canopy covered table with 1 or 2 kettles nearby? With the same footprint size as the barbecue?

It would produce meat and vegetable soup:

- Meat soup (flagged as protein): 2 units of either chicken or beef + 5 units of water (from NMT water tower) + 2 units of firewood = 10-11 units of meat soup with a trade value of 2.

- Vegetable soup (flagged as vegetable): 6 units of either cabbage, beans, potatoes, pumpkin or tomato (RK's tomatos) + 3 units of water (from NMT water tower) + 2 units of firewood = 10-11 units of vegetable soup with a trade value of 2.

Would these numbers be reasonable if we take into account that meat has a higher trade value than vegetables? And that we want to give the food productivity just a small boost?

Have you seen this: http://colonialcharter.com/index.php/forum/kralyergs-kave-of-krazy-kontraptions/1573-soup-kitchen (http://colonialcharter.com/index.php/forum/kralyergs-kave-of-krazy-kontraptions/1573-soup-kitchen)  ;)

Nice find  :) but I don't use CC (and that soup kitchen gives too many options). I prefer a mishmash of smaller mods.

It may be made by Kralyerg and 'hosted' on the CC site, but its not an actual component of the CC mod itself (That whole section has a whole bunch of mini-mods to choose from, your you're really cutting yourself off by ignoring the whole site).

It says in the mod description that it requires CC to use.

And I am using a couple of mods made by Kralyerg. Those that are not CC dependable.

A way to get rid of those heavy mushrooms. Nice.

(quickly out the backdoor to find some mushroom textures)

@Gatherer  - Don't you think one ingredient plus water is ... meager?
I see your point in having only one ingredient. There wont be so many
choices in the menu. Maybe 8-10.

Yes, something like that. With the numbers I've suggested it should give a small profit in both food and trade value but just a little more than input value.

@kid1293

Meat soup - 2 recipes (chicken and beef)
Vegetable soup - 5 recipes (cabbage, beans, potatoes, pumpkin and tomato). Perhaps even mushrooms (but they have a higher trade value so that should be put into consideration).

7-8 recipes total.

Soup sounds a bit boring. What about a Pizzeria with Pickup by customer and with all the tasty things... I order a pizza with ham, olives, artichokes and pepperoni ... ;D

Pizza  :) I've had it 2 nights in a row... I think my Banished bannies are missing out!

OK - No mushrooms

Discrepancy - You have to continue your pizza diet.  ;D

Have to go and dig a hole.
Need some water.
The 'Market Soup' is slowly coming to town.

I would aim at combining food groups in the recipes so as to improve the actual impact of the production chain. Having water as an ingredient may limit the possible combinations, and adds a building requirement, (and additional worker), which also must be considered, and it makes it mod dependent. You need to ask what you want this to be, a food source, or a trade good, if its food then final trade value is less important than food groups and input to output ratios. Otherwise a simple trade value calculation is best, and can be balanced by playing with work time, work required, and building cost.  :)

My point of view too.
If you have one or two staple food like potato or beans,
you can add chicken, beef, mutton and fish for variation.

The same with vegetable food. One or two basic and
add variation.

Without water this could be independent and I don't
have to dig for it. :)

So what is it - food or trade?

My original idea was something similar to your barbecue mod. To give little more food. I will use it no matter what the final decision is. As long as the food input is smaller than output calculated in food units. I almost never sell edibles except alcohol and lately seed oil so food trade value is of little interest to me.

Oh yes, this spizza looks perfect. Thanks and faster than by a pizza delivery.^^ The soup looks tasty too. I take both.

I think it's a good decision to cancel the water for the soup. And I think it should be a good food but no trade good. No merchant would buy or sell a pot of soup. I would define a trade value and stackcount of 0. That no merchant will bring it. A funny exception could be a pizza delivery boat. 8)

Thanks Tom - I think food is more critical.
At least in mid-game if there are shortages.

It's late - I'm tired. Here's the 'daily' menu.

Meat
Chicken - Wheat  (smooth and tasty)
Beef - Onion (heavy and nourishing)

Vegetable
Cabbage - Potato  (Basic and filling)
Potato - Onion (same)
Bean - Pepper (spicy and nourishing)
Pumpkin - Bean (for those long workdays)

add FireWood to that.

I'll sleep on the numbers.

Morning.
Sleep is good for ideas!

Of course I use my BBQ numbers:
4 meat + 4 veg + 1 firewood (worth 20) = 12 Meat Soup (worth 24)
4 veg + 4 veg +1 firewood (worth 12) = 12 Vegetable Soup (worth 12)

Maybe now I should think about the menu.

Do you want me to pack Soup and BBQ together
or release separately?

Together would be more convenient.

I don't want to interrupt the download page with this,
so I leave it here for you to find.

This is Market BBQ and Market Soup in one file.
They have their own icons, at the same place.

Be careful - I updated and the game crashed!
I do a lot of testing and updating, I dont know what
caused the crash but I had to start a new game.
Just so you know.

@Gatherer - you have to get it this way. I don't want
a new entry in the download just for this.
But take care. (maybe good for future games) :)

edit: updated the soup trade numbers. nothing serious.

Who's gonna pick them? :)
You?

edit: I thought you meant the vegetable - peanut.
Silly me!
No, you have to get your donut elsewhere.
Nice try, though.

@Turis - Haven't spoken to you since Tequila Mod.

Don't you have any light to bring to this dark (banished) corner?
Is there any special thing you miss? Think small. :)

No, no pizza! :)

Thanks. I have lost my latest town to crashes and will be starting a new one during the weekend. Just have to find a good map seed until then.

Cheers!

Being from Scotland can I recommend Scottish Broth!
Title: Re: Suggestion: Soup kitchen

I googled Scotch Broth and personally I would love it, but
I don't have any barley in vanilla game, just CC version.

But I will have it in mind for a special thing I want to do.
It's so much to plan and read up upon, but something scottish, yes. :)
