I really like this, I don't know why. It reminds me of France, or maybe Indiana. Anyway, I think I could live here.
A bit farther downstream is the new port facility. On year 51, all of this has been developed in the past 10 years.
In upper left center, Oldtown.
@irrelevant, what is the seed? It looks like an interesting map. Typing is slow today, doing it with one hand because cat curled up on left arm.

@irrelevant... doing it with one hand because cat curled up on left arm.
Lol -- that's just like the most common phrase in our house for why you might ask someone to do something for you -- 'would you get me glass of water; I have a kitty.' :D
You might claim they're just pets, but, honestly, they really
do rule the household.
My cats aren't spoiled.....
Yeah ... right. ;D Between cats and humans, I have to wonder who domesticated whom.
Hijacking post with cats. I would guess mine would say they have me pretty well trained. "Hey hon, could you refill my wine glass? I have a cat on my lap."
I have four cats with me. I have a couple of chairs pulled up next to mine, and there's one on each, with a couple more laying around on the floor. We're all just hangin' out.
@Bobbi the map is 540906850 large valley fair off medium.
Newport. Started out on the left bank there, then crossed the river.
A few houses first, then a forester and a hunter. Next year, farther out, a few more houses and a barn, and then the next forester/hunter. Stayed like this for a few years until some log issues were solved. Then all in one year put down several more houses, the port, the market, and the farms. The following year built barns, a tailor, a blacksmith, a tavern, and a woodcutter. Used the traders to drag wool, iron, and fruit to the port, then when the industry started up, the raw materials were already at hand.
In the upper right there, the next planned expansion. First the six new houses, then the market up in the corner. Once the market's built I'll develop the area between those two markets. Looks like a good spot for some farms. I like farms. :)
New farms at Newport.
All 16 crops and trees are shown here. 8)
Newport and Lakeport, all new in the past 7 years.
The market and the trading post are such a natural combination, I almost hate building one without the other now!! Each is like an extension of the other.
Autumn afternoon; harvesting.
The construction of a farming community: Eastfield. Early summer 76 through autumn 77. Twenty-five more farmers ;)
It's definitely Indiana.
It isn't just all farms though.
wow i see why you get some ... 2k pop :)
The bustling ports of North Donton.
Farms expanding in two directions..
man ! i AM JEALOUS !
you have so much place in that map !
i was trying to be competitive... but i think i cant compete :'(
I think yours is better. :D
you have almost 2.4k people and you have place to put like +500 crops :S
in your 2 last screenshot i counted like +38 crops of 2,3,4 farmers each :P
That's not going to get me to 680 farmers though! Only way I can do that is go back through and bump all my 15x8s from two farmers to three.
i dunno, you are doing so well and i see tons of place left in your minimap. for sure you can beat that !
me i have just some little spot , i can maybe up it to 700 ? 720max?
Geronimo (which i use for the nomads) has 780 already lol
but i wont use it for 500 farmers, even if you force me ^^
you beat it (Farm City), you win ! :)
but.... i see so many wood house ... no problem to heat them ?
Yes, it's been a huge problem! Something I struggled with the whole game, had two or three firewood crises, and also two or three log crises. I decided to try to go to stone houses like on year 30 or so, but I could never afford it. I was always running on a shoestring for logs, stone, and iron all three.
awwww and it will only getting worst and worst as you put more of those :(
get stone and wood from merchants ! dont have anything to sell ? i always buy stones per 1k or 2k every month :P
I never had enough extra to trade for stone. I was buying so much fruit. I don't have the patience for orchards ::)
k. in a map, how much hunter cabin you place ? me i always put like 12-30 cabin (with 1 hunter Inside) and getting like 4-5k venison to sell each time a merchant arrive(in every trading post) . in the vegetarian i wont be able to do that :'(
I don't know, this was only my second town. I focused on farms early. I'll be starting a new town soon, I think.
I will do many things differently. More forest nodes, for sure.
k
but please dont give up. i m sure you can really beat my Farm City, for sure ! even if need to place 3 farmer per crop :) (thats their default ? 8x15 ?) (keep in mind, there is no rule about number of farmer per crop... i tried to ... buy the jury lol but there is nothing against ^^)
Oh, don't worry, I'm going to finish all right. 8)
Yes, three is the default, but I went the whole game with two. Seems cheesy to change it now. But I will do it both ways, I'll document everything the way it is, then I'll go back thru and assign the default number of farmers and see how that looks.
I've loved having the army of laborers, but once I passed 2000 I've been losing 30-50 of them to starvation every winter.
ouch.
me too i decided to use 1 per 8x8. at begining was fine, every map was fine with 1 only. but at some point when around 1k pop and starting to lag, and have bad frost, i had no choice to put the default (2) cause the town would have died. they started to get only 20%-40% of potential food :( year after year
so me too i ve was obligated to change my mind.
so go for it !
