The challenge: Accept the nomads in your village and survive for one year.
(THE MOST AT ONE TIME)
Screencaps of the nomads tab from your town hall and overview tab when you accept them and an overview screencap from one year later will be required.
The first champion will be announced July 15th and then anytime a successful challenge is posted after that a new champion will be crowned!
A wall of champions is currently being designed and will be accessible to all members and guests to see who our champions are!
Surviving for a year, isn't so hard, even with a large batch as it is doubtful the whole town would die off. Maybe there should be a percentage of population or something left to qualify as surviving?
I would also suggest pairing a screencap of the amount of Nomads that want in, along with the population graph right after you accept them.
the most nomads in 1 shot ?

Yes, a screencap of the overview before accepting the nomads, the nomads tab that shows how many want to join your village, and then the overview screencap from one year later.
Um, no, sorry :o
haha ya thats scary ! ^^
doeet !
I have noticed that the higher your population, the more likely you are to see a larger number of Nomads. So
@irrelevant with his large population and my map of Sanctuary and many others that have reached 1700 or higher would have both an option of accepting a large group and of dying rather quickly :D. I would love to try it on my map of Sanctuary but am quite certain that accepting another +200 Nomads would send me into a very bad situation. Like no Sanctuary and no space for more graveyards. :-[ ;D Oh well. Could always delete those dog-gone farms I suppose. Maybe even make more forests.
Otherwise.....Nah... I will pass.
I am just pleased as a sweet pickle hiding in a hamburger patch I finally got screenshots to load though. Miss the newb designation however.
So this is basically a "how big a colony can you grow" sort of challenge, since the number of nomads depends on your colony size? I would need to fully develop a large map to be competitive in this challenge. I'll see whether I can do that in the time allotted.
Obviously that person on Shining Rock who had 3000 citizens would win this one. ;D
yeah who has the biggest town will get the biggest pack :)
unfortunatly, my only city with more than 1800 (1901 to be exact) never got any nomad request, i dunno if it s a bug, or can happends with RNG of certain seeds.... i dunno.
i need another high pop town till 15th july ^^
High pop can certainly help, but you have to survive after you take in the nomads and high pop towns are usually right on the edge of a death spiral!
Just a clarification...even if taking nomads kills off 3/4s of my population they have still survived, right? Or do they need to survive with a similar population?

You just need to "survive" one whole year. What's left of your village may not be what you wanted!
Okay, thank you!

Ain't that the truth. It feels like I imagine juggling and walking a tightrope would.
In fact, I hate it so much I'm doing it 6 hours a day ;)
oh god ! i just accepted 216 nomads lollllz
accepted:
loollllz thats scary
lol they just got me 2 disease in a row. 1st time i ve got 2 infected (of course children iding at hospital) and 2nd one got 3 infects. i hope not get a 3rd one as usual
edit: oh yeah, 3rd in a row : 4 infects
from Late spring 71 to Early autumn 72 :
i survived it !
and my population even gone up to 1850 :)
so i started it with a bid of : 216 nomads !
the number to beat (
so far) is 216 :)
Good luck with that! Somehow, I expect you'll handle that. Somehow. ;)
@RedKetchup I agree, that is scary!
oh noes ! already ????? only 3 years after there is another big batch of nomads making their way to my Townhall :-[
.... only 190 nomads this time (the nomads line seemed to me longer :P than previously) ah well....
shouldnt be a problem :P at least it will make my town jump over the 2k pop. will help me to get closer to
@irrelevant :)
ROFLMAO
I have 242 nomads waiting at my townhall as i saved and closed for the night ^^
lolol 242 thats the worst of the nightmares ^^
it will certainly kill my town Geronimo. hahaha

Surviving one year is not as easy as some think it is!
Too bad I'm not doing this one ;D
They took the long bridge on their way out of town.
320 ?????? woah !
@irrelevant I really do want you to blog the building of one of your towns. I think many would benefit from your perspective.
@RedKetchup just started one and I'm glad!
so....... my 216 nomads are stilll holding ? haha
in case someone want to beat this 216 nomads... i decided to accept these 242 nomads at Late Spring 77
screenshot #1: before i click accept
screenshot #2: you see i accepted and it ups my pop to : 2379 citizens :)
screenshot #3: in early summer 77 i ve got an outbreak of dysentery (got 3 infected total before i got rid) and never got any thenafter.
screenshot #4: Early summer 78 i made 1 full year and i have live! i even have now 2414 Citizens :)
so now the bid is .... 242 to beat :)
Holy massive immigration, Batman!
@RedKetchup, you surely qualify for the Banished UN's humanitarian award for accepting displaced people.
:) i am at year 80 and i have another batch of nomad at my townhall. a bigger grp :)
I am going to have to create a new Champion level called Supreme Champion!
@RedKetchup keeps winning all the challenges!
I have not even decided if I am going to try this one yet. Or even if the time has run out! I'll have to re-check. I feel like the only town I have that could compete would be y 500 farmer one, and I am not sure how stable that one is long-term even without adding nomads to it.
oh i dont ! :) i didnt won 500 farmers nor i won market radius :) sometime i could but i didnt. I cant... and I dont.. want to win them all :)
just want to compete with people and push them to do better :)
Well, you won something, you're a Champion! If it wasn't the 500 farmers, what was it? I didn't win, I'm still just a Trader. ;D
hows that ? you won the 500 farmers, no ? you had 694 farmers. why you arent a champion ?
EDIT: There you go
@irrelevant :) you are Champion now :))
btw guys, last day :) go go go you can beat that :)
still, i m gonna push it a bit :)
276 nomads accepted in late spring 80 (screenshot #1 and #2)
and i provide a screenshot of Early summer 81 (#3) to show i survived it
i have now 2625 citizens :)
@RedKetchup That's amazing! Are you using boarding houses for the nomads?
i think i have 3 .... but with these amount of nomads... they get full and you dont notice any changes lol
@RedKetchup So you just set everyone to work building houses, and if they don't get them finished in time, too bad for them? ;)
Course I guess as long as they have access to barns with food and can warm up on someone's front porch, they aren't going to die. How long does it take to get all those nomads into housing then? And are you building stone houses, or wood?
stone houses only in this city.
they mainly just .... replace and occupy all the pepe's and meme's empty houses which get free. they eat at barns and they warm up at nearest house in their path in wait.
and by the time i can get more nomad.... i lost as many as i ve got :S
this map is full i really cannot plan any more districts :(
or
i cut down everything left from my forests and i use it for crops/districts ... and i count on merchants to provide me 15,000 logs per year :S
I have been trying to build up my 500 farmer town to be able to accept a big group of nomads. I think I almost have them there but I have not had any groups big enough to beat
@RedKetchup yet. I am not likely to get any game time today until this evening, so I have no entry. :D
Good Luck to everyone participating!

we are 21th july now and .... i think i have won the first round .... by default lol
I have not been playing this town much, I had been trying to focus my play time on the Vegetarian Challenge, and now the Trader one. Last time I played it, I did get some big groups, but not bigger then yours. The town's lag makes it not as much fun to play.
Yes
@RedKetchup you are the current champion of this challenge but don't get too comfortable! Someone could be trying to beat your record!
The challenge is open ended folks so feel free to post your best effort and make the champ uncomfortable!
haha, yes ! come on guys !!!
try to intimidate me !!!!! mwahaha i am ready for you :)
Ooooo, tempting!
Accepted 282 nomads in Late Spring 78.
Early Summer 79, nomads assimilated, more or less. I did essentially nothing for the entire year except deal with merchants, and try to stamp out 5 disease outbreaks that happened one after another. The last one is still hanging on a bit.
I didn't build a single building.
I think for a big town like Rickettsville, absorbing a big wad of nomads for just a year isn't really that hard, as long as you have food, clothing, and tools banked.
woot , someone to beat ! :)
;D If anyone can do it, it's you, mon ami.

Bien sûr :) of course :)
Lets see if you can follow me this time :) i ll put the challenge a bit higher :))
Year 83 Late spring : 406 nomads asking :)
Accepted :)
thats put me at 2912 citizens lol
of course i ve got disease ^^ only got 1 but on his way + the idles at hospital, i ve got a dozen total infected
Year 84 Summer : One full year has pass through, and i survived. i have 2855 citizens now (with the random death the game gives me all the time ^^)
i just wished to give you more time :) to enjoy your bravery, mon très bon Ami :) but i appreciate it :)
lets see if you can follow me ;D
LOL! Well, that didn't take long ;D
400+ nomads :o
My hats off to both of you!
Wow wow wow
so ? who will try to beat 406 ? ;D ;D ;D
If I ever get that many, I'll take them!
Not me, I am afraid. Not until I get get that many citizens without the lag, anyway!
@RedKetchup, did I read that right...when you accepted 400+ nomads, you had only 21 coats in stock?! Are you experimenting with nudism? :)
thats part of their (the nomads) initiations :) if they want to be part of this awesome city... they need to walk naked for a year or 2 ^^.
(the citizens of the city need to better know them ... on every angles lol ^^
more seriously, i have 85% of pop well dressed presently :)
You know those French speakers, they look at things differently ;)
So close! ;D
doh ! just by ... a dozen or so :-X
I'm enjoying this thread. Such disorder on such a large scale. ;D
Edit. Saw too late that 230 is not in first league.
That's the spirit, though! Keep at it.
In the spirit of good challenge i am uploading Rubbering savegame with currently 2100 population, loaded trading ports, sustaibable economy and ample room for expansion, my estimate is that map can support cca 3500 citizens at which point more than 406 nomads should be kicking in. If anyone wants to take this to another level feel free to. http://shiningrocksoftware.com/forum/discussion/3603/rubberring-2k-update#Item_16 (http://shiningrocksoftware.com/forum/discussion/3603/rubberring-2k-update#Item_16) I am taking hiatus from banished so no challenge from me, and even if i play it again i am starting new story.
Now this looks promising...... :)
Uh-oh. I think they may be undead. :o
Damn! >:( ;D
lol undead nomads. you too you have a bridge that is bugged lol
doh , only 389 :(

Holy Zombie Apocalypse, Batman! One question: Do the undead count in the town hall stats? Or in challenges?
Warning !!! Big nomad pack INCOMMING !!! looooolllllllll
Alright alright !
UP TO DATE BREAKING NEWS ! Everyone ! hehe * * * * * World of Banished BREAKING NEWS * * * * *
So... I accepted this HUGE pack of nomads :) Previously the number to beat ( my own number hehe ) was 406.....
HERE IT COMES ! 472 Nomads !!
Accepted :) it put my population to 4510 Citizens lol
Of course i ve got Mumps outbreak which infected 6 citizens total, fully recovered
and 1 full year later , Year 86, my population now is 4554 citizens haha
So NOW the number to beat is : 472 Nomads :)
Congrats
@RedKetchup! That is an impressive amount of nomads! I can't imagine the lag you must have at that population! :o
Okay.
Screen 1 - Sink Mill, Summer 74, pop 5083
Screen 2 - 661 nomads knocking at the door
Screen 3 - accepted! pop 5745
Screen 4 - they shop for clothing and tools and stuff.
(We won't mention the "unfortunate incident")
Screen 5 - Late Summer 75 - pop 5167 - Sink Mill took a lickin' and kept on tickin'.
You did it again! Didn´t I told you i would cross my fingers for those 600+ nomads. Have kept them crossed since than, and you see; it payed off!!!!!
CONGRATULATIONS again
(suppose the "unfortunate incident" was yellow fever or something like that. 8 doctors for almost 6000 people, might be a little short)

Yes, as it turns out, it was a LOT short. Next town, I'm putting lots more thought into hospital placement. One needs a hospital for every two markets or so. And they can't all be on the edges either, forcing a long walk through a crowded town is just as bad as walking through lots of idlers.
start : 5083
end : 5167
= +84
at least you ve got a positive value and i think it makes it a fact that you survived it :)
congratulations
@irrelevant , you have beat my 400+ish number :)
well deserved :)
one day i ll have to beat that ^^
@RedKetchup I have little doubt that you will do so. :)
It feels very strange, not to be working on this town. I'm starting a new town. I've been thinking for some time there's some achievements I don't have, so I'm going for Mountain Men, Isolationist, and One with Nature, with the same town. I think there's much I can learn from doing this; for one thing how not to have my first structure be a farm!
Hopefully this won't take too long (a couple of weeks?) and when I'm done the mod milieu will be more finished, and I'll be able to pick a select set of complete and stable mods to use going forward.
hey ! wait my decorative pack v 1.3 is out !
do a little 300 mountain men .... will take you part of the evening, in wait !
Well, you know how slow I am; this will take me some days.
Gaaa! Especially when I have to start over! >:( The one thing I really hate about 1.03 & 1.04 is that when you lay down roads for planning, and then save, after that you can't simply delete the roads; they must be removed by builders one square at a time. Lost three hours; screw it, I'm going to bed.
@irrelevant, a belated congratulations on the new high Nomads count! Amazing that you survived from that swarm!
@solarscreen thanks! I think when a town gets over 1500-2000, it's pretty hard to kill it. But it did not feel good, watching my guys die like that. You feel responsible.
its your fault
@irrelevant !!!! YOU SHOULD NEVER ALLOW THEM TO DIE!
you should have made everything posssible so none , not even one, die of a such horrible death !
your fault !!
you have their blood on your hands !
;D ;D ;D
Ok, that made me laugh a lot. ;D
that , that was the goal :P
What an awesome thread. :D For my newest town (now that I'm done trying out all the awesome mods and have settled on a set to keep using) I've decided to go as big as I can and take in all nomads. I wanted to do that last time I was addicted to Banished, but I got burned out before I even really got going. There's no way I'll get the numbers I've seen here, because I don't pack houses in as tightly so I can't support as large of a population as is needed to get that many nomads, but I'm certainly going to see what I can manage. So, thanks all for the inspiration.
It's funny, but once I got over my aversion for having any uneducated workers, I really started looking forward to "new blood" wandering into town. We'll see how high that number gets before my feelings change on that. :D
How is 'and live' defined? at what point would it count?

One year after you take the nomads, if your town is still going. Piece of cake. ;)
