Got my first 3000 population city :) not a bump and dumb city boosted with nomads.... NO! a really progressing city with 100% natives, 99.999% educated, 99.999% clothed :)
i never accepted any nomads yet in this game :) (till i ve got that pack of 472 nomads at year 85 after i ve got 4000+ citizens)
Number One City , seed 7548. Large Valley. i was working on trading posts challenge, but since last night, i gave up. i really dont like it with like 30-40 merchants docking all the time every year. on 1 hr play time, i was passing 50 mins just on merchants :( so i gave up, tired of this. i didnt enjoyed.
but....... 3000 pop and still expanding ! thats awesome !!!
i m wondering to how much i can push it :) 3500 ? 4000 ? i dunno , will see :)
That's awesome! Congratulations
@RedKetchup. :D Beautiful docks and choppers too.
Thanks :)
The city doesnt have a nice layout, maybe even ugly but... it s made for to be more effective and have way more people in same space.
i also reduced alot of road in order to:
not get the 'too many 1x1 stone roads' bug (graphical overflow bug which i had in Geronimo before i delete alot of them)
and trying to lose less 'good soil' (turned into roads) which can be used in more effective farming (7 food per 1x1 tile saved).
since i deleted alot of TPs, my game is crashing lot less also :-X but still happends
i just made some screenshot to show things around :)
more screenshots
oops forgot that one which was my very first district.
when you check those screenshot, we have an impression of .... of déjà-vu lol
a kind of 500 farmers challenge turned into of a ... 1000 farmers challenge LOL
almost 3200 :) and soon alot more, i just made the layout of a new expansion zone :)
990 Farmers! ;D Really got to hand it to you. Un. Real.
Course, you had to do something with all those extra traders ;)
have no choice,that gang of people are all always hungry :S they eat like 300-350k per year, and soon they will eat 400k food/year. thats crazy. its a 'fat' population lol

I'm going to have to create a new champion level for you! **Grand Master** We are going to have the
@RedKetchup channel where all your villages and accomplishments can be reviewed, enjoyed, and teach us how it's done!
Well done my friend, well done!
HAHA i never checked so closely.... but ... i have a bridge which is bugged
people dont pass 'on' the bridge but 'below' it ^^. i made a video capture to show you
http://youtu.be/nSH0N-fYXv4 (http://youtu.be/nSH0N-fYXv4)
Woot 3500 !!!!!!!! :)
Great going
@RedKetchup !! :D
I can't imagine ever having 2000, let alone 3500. Great going
@RedKetchup.
I looked at your bridge video. I'm not sure it is the bridge that is bugged--looks more like a zombie invasion. Have you had any unusual happenings around any of your cemeteries? ;D
no, but the game runs like a zombie :P

I have a two-year old i5 3570K with 8 megs of RAM and the game gets really slow with 1000 people. I can only imagine how slow it is with 3500. I see the slowdown first on the river after 20 or so TPs are built. The merchants start rowing erratically and then the river apparently turns to molasses and they all go very slowly. Around 800 or so people I turn the speed down from 10X to 5X and there seems to be no difference between the two.
i can continue playing my game with a shortcut to my 'Application-steam-x32.exe' running as administrator + Windows 7 compatibility so....
there is an update ^^
is there a way to get more than 1M -1 food (999,999limit) ??? lol

;D ;D ;D
Nice! Good going! Glad you are back.
thx :)
WOW!!!
How slow is the game playing now?
i play at 2x and it s as slow as 1x, and you have some 'resistance' when you try to surf around with arrows/wasd keys
at 1x it s like a 0.5x but the scrolling with arrows/wasd is 100% perfect
5x there is no difference at all with 2x (previously mentionned) and almost impossible to scroll around
How many markets and TPs are there? How many vendors and traders? Just curious.
12 Trading Posts of 20 workers in each (so many only because i have so many unemployed workforce, i was very fine with 15 in each)
18 Markets of 15 workers in each (again only because the unemployment, i was very fine with 8 to 10 in each)
(http://worldofbanished.com/gallery/37_10_08_14_9_16_37.jpeg)
4500 Citizens everyone !!!
I accepted a big pack of 472 nomads and pushed harder that Challenge Accept nomad and live!

Amazing! Congrats
@RedKetchup !
Thanks alot :)
@irrelevant :)
Holy Urban Metropolis, Batman! And from the minimap it looks like you still have some room to expand.
yes i do ! but i also need to take some to fix a couple of things : Tools/firewood/clothes/everything are going down and down fast and i have almost nothing to sell , no firewood, i dont even produce 2k ale per year, only have a bit of meat (venison/beef/mutton). but definitly, still have some room.
If you can build a stable 5,000 pop town....
Are you able to download games from GOG.com?
I have a massive gift pack from them I need to give to someone. :)
i never gone there so far. i never heard of that site before i heard it couple of time in here. i can check.
EDIT : About my town, getting 5000 pop and stable ? this town wouldnt be able to be stable at 5000pop, unfortunatly. it is not even stable since i pass the 4000pop. everything is going down... tools... firewood... clothes... iron.... coal... wood... only my food seems ok even if they eat 500k per year (4500pop X 100food each= 450k) but i learned alot and i have now a good idea of what it takes :)
i started another city and i'm planning it to be big, right from the start.
Ok, if you get it to 5,000 even if it's unstable!
Nice work! Hopefully you can get it balanced out enough to grow a little bit more.
@RedKetchup That big slug of nomads was too much to swallow? ;)
no, not at all. it would have been same thing with natural births. i just not counted and reserved enough space for 2x more woodcutters/blacksmiths/clothiers/brewmasters <= (5x for those) and 5x to 10x more herdsmen for going to 5000pop.
My goal was to get to 4000 and get a big bunch of nomads. mission done !
my next one wil hit 5000 ! ;D
Well done!
I too feel that 5000 is doable. It'll take the right map though. My last one had a lot of unusable space. But also we've learned a lot about using what space there is.
@RedKetchup and
@irrelevant are you two up for a challenge?
With new maps, the goal is 5,000 people.
@RedKetchup says he just started a new map, how about it
@irrelevant?
@solarscreen Sure, I'm game to give it a go. Just be aware, to get to just 4000 it took me 6 weeks with a daily average in the game of probably 4-5 hours!

There is no deadline, just a winner!
I do ask if you two decide to take a shot at it that you blog your villages. Nothing too detailed, more like an update from week to week where you are and what you did to survive and grow.
alright, sure!
Sure! Blogging Rickettsville probably slowed me down some, but I maybe also got carried away with the number of updates. :-[
AWESOME!!!
Challenge 5,000 is ON!
yes !!!!!!
I will restart a new one just for that :) i started one, i loved my new design but not sure if it could hold it, there was an awesome flat land at start but there was also big ugly zone in the east (huge lake and big mountains)....
i just prospected the 81xx seed range and looks like alot of good seeds in that range. and also , i want to start in same time as
@irrelevant :)
What will be your settings Irrelevant so i can pick up same ?
@RedKetchup Well, I also have a new town that I just started, now in year 11 I think, I want to check to see whether it is suitable. If not I'll start a new one. If it is, am I too far along? IIRC it has 40 adults.
At work now so no way to check the seed, but it is large valley medium moderate.
it was year 13 with 60 adults. but not keeping it. i liked the design though. i restarted a new one, i dunno if i ll keep it as 'easy' start (chickens lol and only potato and 2x nuts)
i think i ll go for medium start to not get those wood building everywhere it shouldnt ^^. and also it will be a slow start lol, 12 citizens only with 2 child (2 and 5 y old)
oh woah ! in medium difficulties i have 18 citizens instead of just 12 (on easy)
lol maybe the 6 chickens counted ??? haha
lol, of course i trade it for +6 children on medium start ^^
Quote from: RedKetchup on August 13, 2014, 11:36:36 AM

I've found wide variations in number of people at start. I usually start on Hard with 4 families, but I've had anywhere from 11-16 people. I think Medium is 5 families and Easy 6. 16 people ended up being harder than 12 or so because of the amount of food needed in the first year.
i found that easy / medium / hard have totally different rng about : number of citizens and patterns.
on easy i ve got 12 people and potato only as crop and 2 diff nuts and chicken
on medium i ve got 18 people , corn and pumkins as crop, and apple as orchard. of course no livestock.
Yes. There must be something RNG built into the map-building script which is determined by the seed. I always get the same people/crops with the same seed on the same settings.
oh ya ! you will always get same patterns/pop with the exactly same seed even if you retry it 100x
but the map itself wont change from easy to med to hard.
