I have, by accident found a way to remove trees on top of hills. Just build a Medieval wall piece under the tree and wait until the tree has disappeared then delete the wall piece. nice flat land remains. This might have been posted elsewhere but in case it hasn't. The extra land can be removed with the flatten tool.
