Colorful 2-Floors Little Houses v1.0 - Redketchup
Hello again everyone !
This Mod adds 6 new colorful 2-floors (duplex) little houses. Using the 'Graphic Overlap Technology' ™ developped by me, you will get 2 floor houses. One family will live at the first floor, and a second family will live upstairs at the 2nd floor. Both family will be able to get 100% functionnality as a family and will be able to get babies :)
You can use the "F" Key to surf through the different colors.
WARNING: Use at your own risks ! I wont be responsible of how you will use this 'Graphic Overlap Technology' ™. If you do stupid looking things with it, it is up to you! But the 2nd floor is meant to be built ontop of the first floor! ^^
Enjoy !

changelog v 1.01 : fixed just a very little issue with footprint, i made them a little bit darker.
Magic Link will appear once you are logged ON on the forum !!

It has the same name as the one floor little houses, and the folder wants to overwrite the first one. Is it the same file or do I want to rename it?
you overwrite it
the alpha is going to the recycled bin (you dont need the alpha anymore)
Just downloaded. Will give it a run in a while and let you know how badly I mess up your beautiful Mods
@RedKetchup :)
Yay, I got it to work.

:) congrats ! enjoy !
you know can circle through the colors with "F" Key ? so you can match the colors :)
and also , if you want the best looking, put the 2nd floor at the best place, or behind the house you ll get this horrible thing ^^
(the chimney need to fit together :) imbricate perfectly ^^)
Ahhh, I see. I didn't sit the footprint quite right. I quite like seating it wrong, the "awning/veranda" on the lower story looks nice poking out under the upper story.
It's a bit fiddly and I forgot to leave enough space a couple of times around the lower story to get the upper one to fit.
Yes I can cycle through colours using F key, I just liked having a different top colour to the bottom. :D
hehe you ll get it :) the graphic of 1st floor = 5x5 but the footprint is just 3x5, the 2x5 left is for the stairway for the upper level :)
Not sure if I constructed these right, but here is screen shot.
I had another go. lol

yup you both got it ! :) the chimney in the back must fit together :)
You can make cute little rowhouses from the bottom ones if you overlap them. ;D

IMO you need a need profession to snow shovel and clean those stairways haha
It's absolutely freaking brilliant! Thank you
@RedKetchup
i know right :)
;D ;D so excited about it
It really was a stroke of genius. How did you come up with that?
The second floor isn't really built on top of the first, it's built on the 1x4 patch next door, and just cantilevers out over it. Right?
@RedKetchup
This is the BEST-INNOVATIVE-AWESOME-MOD-EVER well done! thank U so much ;D
will u add 3-floors residential houses? shop@ground flr. just like in The Settlers game
sorry for posting so many images, im just so excited & happy :D
hehe i think some people need a version without chimneys ^^
oh man!
you're a volcano !!
the worthy heir to mathieuso to continue the fountain mod!
I leave you for a weekend and I find myself with two-storey houses with colored roofs, water mills, windmills .. and what else you have in that hotbed of ideas ????
great great job !!!
i really doubt i ll get the fountain mod. i told him my vision of it (on purpose) and he wont like it ^^
u manage to make the houses overlapping each other & can be place-able w/ almost anything, can u do this same idea to your Decorative Items Pack - Greenhouse so we can put crops on it? only if possible, sorry i ask too much, hahaha so many ideas around

and what about "your vision"?
this mod is a mad package of everything without any link or relations between the parts. i told him if i would get it, some parts will join something else that has relation or themed. i dont really want it anyways ... so i doubt he will gimme me ^^.
yes, in fact there is a little of everything ..
decorative, with chains of production with new buildings, etc. ...
But you have to admit that the work done so far was good ..
he probably has other ideas in mind ..
and I still have not figured out if the latest version is compatible with Steam is stuck at 1.0.4!
Very nice!
Will it hold more people? Might be time for a new Market Radius challenge! :)
it does 1.8X
Used the two-story houses for the first last night. Excellent! How did you ever think of this,
@RedKetchup?
My guess is that he was inspired by the following from the ReadMe that comes with the modding kit.
"If the building has sections above the terrain, make a very low res 'floor' object that citizens will walk on. (The apiary doesn't need or use one.)
See /resource/Models/Buildings/FishermansDock/FishermansDockFloor.rsc
See /resource/Template/FishermansDock.rsc
Be sure to note when you build the ground floor, that the second floor will require additional ground space on the left side (looking at the front)

So creative! Awesome use of them! :)
So much good stuff has happened in the last few days that it's making it really hard for me to stick with the vanilla towns I'm trying to get the rest of the achievements with. I wanna play with these houses soooooo bad!! Already downloaded and waiting for me to start a town with them.
As expected, I am charmed by these houses!!!
At the first attempt I made the mistake, not letting the space left free. But it doesn't matter. The small 1 floor-house looks so cute. Than I thought that I invented the "stilt-house" because I tried to build the second floor alone beside it. Looks good, too. Than I saw that I wasn't the firstone who had made this.
The picture looks like an old fashioned Christmas card. :D
Thank you
@RedKetchup
Is this something you planned
@RedKetchup?
I remember you talked about testing your new baby ;)
Just started a new game to test Jamie´s modified tradingmod. I want to build only these cute houses from the start. As I looked into the houses, I notice that this family has got a new baby, the 6. member of the family. I have seen 4 children in one family before, seldom, but I thought it happened only if the parents first lived separated.
Can´t be accidental. The next 3-chilren-family just got a baby. At the couple upstairs, too.
i didnt just allowed to have people living upstairs :) i also allowed a 6th member of a family :) a 4th children :)

Didn´t know, but as I said, I just noticed. Hasn´t anyone else noticed it yet?
I am not so sure about the consequences. But I will give it a hard test in this game. :)
You don´t stop to surprise
@RedKetchup :)

You sly dog, you. ;D I've been building the houses like crazy in my latest town--great for fitting in two families in tight spots or where you want to leave some bare ground. I have to admit that I build houses, make sure a couple moves in and then move on to other things. I hadn't gone back to look and notice the extra kid.
The one issue so far is that I got so excited building these houses that I got carried away and ended up with 45 houses and 40 families. :-[ Next time I'll try and remind myself to pay attention.
I'm also thinking that those who want to play swampy maps can build just the 2nd story in case of floods. Back in the 90s when the Great Lakes' water level was rising people rebuilt their cottages like that.
:D :D :D Very foxy
@RedKetchup !
but it wont happends very often, as i could see
Thanks for your work :) , FYI:

Not very often. It will happen at the beginning of a game. The just banished people are very young and often have some children (or brothers and sisters or whatever, the age differens to the "parents" is sometimes only a couple of years). Three of my 5 starting families became their 4th child. I have now played about 10 years and have only seen it once more.
As long as you go on building houses for the young adults, so they can move out soon after they have left school, you will normally not have more than 3 children at the same time in a family. It will be a bit different, if you do not build so many houses anymore, I suppose. More families, than before will have 4 children, so the effect of building less houses, than needed will be slower. It may make the game a bit difficulter, on the other hand maybe it will be a bit easier to reach a high population, if you have enough supply. I'm not sure, but I sure will try it out.
euh i dont understand the relation with "building less houses" ? why would you want to build less houses ? new adults will never start to get babies if they dont have their own house , and parents i doubt wont have babies anymore if there is an adult living with them.

You are right, my bad English again.
I'll try to explain what I meant.
If I want to build a big settlement, I always start to build, as many houses as there are families. As the settlement grows, sometimes I get the feeling.... oh,oh, the foodpruduction doesn't increase as fast as the population. Than I may use the strategy; not building so many new houses (maybe 400 houses for 500, families or something like that). The population will still increase, as long as you build new houses, but not so fast, as if everyone can leave home, directly after they have left school. With the possibility to have 4 children living at home, this strategy will still work, but it will not work as fast, as if you use the other houses.
That is what I meant that it might be a little difficulter.
I also think, this new tweak will increase the influence of nomads, They are often young as they arrives, many with some children. So i suppose you will have many 6-person families after you have accepted nomads.
@RedKetchup this mod is really something special!!
1. Looks great
2. Fits excellent in the excising Banished-style if you use the brownish roofs, if you want it "conservative"
3. Make your settlement looks funny and different, if you use the color roofs
4. Change the gameplay, in a small but interesting way
5. Uses a clever technic
Don't know what to say! perhaps only.
Thank you. :)
^^ you are welcomed :)
maybe....
you ll get more used to it with time :)
and also by seeing more often those roof ! hehe
presently, in wait to see what i ll do with my windmill, and waiting to get a good feeling about it.....
i am revisiting all my other mods i made so far :)
and updating them a very last time :)
i did Creamery. : building changed : :) will allow a 2nd floor ontop of it :D those exactly already made in Colorful Little Houses! a dairy family living upstairs !
i tweaked some numbers too. alot of people complained about milk numbers.... : reduced 33% (from 24 per drop to 16)
i tweaked also the number of cheeze and cream to be more closer to the yogurt.
i want to do new animal : Milky Cows. black and white. but i need the cow.fbx 3D anim from Luke. if you just change the skin of the actual cattle : no problem. but if you want to start a new animal, you absolutly need the 3D FBX file. so i m waiting Luke's decision.
i just did Grainsilo. it was my very first model made piece by pieces... i fixed some graphical error, didnt want to rebuild it completly, but made some tweaks.
i also seperated both silo, 1 for grain, 1 for coal. cant mix them anymore. and the Coalsilo has its own icon. and the roof is black (same as the black roof of little house)
next one is little chapel, i dunno if i can do much about it.... it wasnt my own design, i took it like that, its an empty cardboard box, but i ll see... and will recheck the code.
I have one thing that disturbs me. It is not originally your mod, but you made it more balanced once.
The apiary;
it disturbs me that honey is considered fruit and grain and and vegetable and protein. If you like to, you could feed your population with only honey and they will always have full health!
I don't know to which category it should belong, and I really don't care, as long as it is only one.
Could you (do you want to) change that?
By the way; another thing I agree with some other folks, that the productivity of the greenhouse is a bit too high. I find it OK if they are wort 8, but ½ production will be enough. I built one settlement with a lot of immortal trees (a try for the "beauty contest" :) had one greenhouse, but was never short on seedlings.
yeah seedlings will be reduced down of 50-60% :) but decorative pack will be the last one revisited, cause i ll have to add the flowers, and that , it wont be easy ^^
i can check honey too :)

Another modder changed honey to be only grain (kralyerg,
Modified Apiary Update 2 with Mead and Pumpkin Ale, http://banishedinfo.com/mods/view/56-Modified-Apiary-Update-2-with-Mead-and-Pumpkin-Ale) which I used for a while to experiment with mead before switching to
@RedKetchup's version of the apiary. Either way it helps in a Hard game where you can get everything but grain before trading--and then the [expletive deleted] merchants take forever to bring grain seeds.
I built these in the winter, with snow on the roof. You have to look closely at the edge of the eaves to get the colors the way you'd like

Indeed! I've started building houses in Spring to make sure I get the colors the way I want them. Of course, one could vary the colors of the two houses to get some decoration. I've seen houses painted more bizarrely than this.
All the variations except the bright red, second story model have a slightly crooked roof (see screen shot). Is this intentional? A very, very minor thing, but I'm OCD when it comes to little details like this :o
Great mod! I use it all the time when I want to squeeze as many people as possible within range of a market. :)
yeas and tons of people yelling at me because i m not doing it enough, go look the barn, and they ask me to do same :S /shame.

Probably just that the citizens who like bright red roofs are also better carpenters. ;D
In my possibly uninformed opinion, the vanilla game overdoes the sagging roof. No self-respecting farmer would let his or her barn get into that kind of shape. Only basically unused or abandoned barns look like that in our neck of the woods.
Agreed with not sagging, not necessary, but matches the original flavor of the game.
I think the roofs all sag because the citizens were a bunch of lazy bums who got kicked out of the nice big city and now they are just doing the best they can.......with as little work as possible. ;D
That's def how it works at my place IRL. ;)
Don´t mind about a little "sagging". Too perfect is not Banished-like at all :)

I agree. :) I never actually noticed them until JimmiG mentioned it.
I absolutely love this mod. I'm new to Banished and like to play games unaltered at first before I play them with mods. But I made a new game just so I could use mods and this is by far one of my favs. The only thing that would make it better (imo) is if there was a stone house version or the option to upgrade. Thanks a lot, though! Keep up the great creations! :)
Red - this is one of the best mods, to the exclusion of all other 'house' mods (including Luke's originals!)
I have only one issue, though - and even that may be related to a pc full rebuild ten days ago (but a Banished re-install, inc mods should have fixed that).
With a reasonable amount of thought and planning, I can build the game progressively to many hundreds of citizens, and have done so with (usually) some twenty-two mods; however - occasionaly, when single-left-clicking on any of your two-level houses (no other object) - usually away from the city-center - the game will crash.
Any others have this? It's "likely" some aberration in my machine, and I will simply live with it if I have to, just backing up every minute, but it's a bit of a pain.
pj
i dunno maybe a bug from the game. there is nothing in the code that can trigger that. if you notice one, without selecting it, go pickup the remove building tool, and do a click on the stairs that go up, and let it remove completly. and when it s gone, you can rebuild a new one at same place.

The only thing I ever have experienced that was like this, was one time I was left clicking through many structures, one after another, using the pathfinding tool. After I had clicked dozens of times, going pretty fast, I crashed out on a left click. I think it was on a farm. This was a large map with between 2000-4000 pop. I'd probably run out of free memory.
Hmmm.. That's kinda what I expected..
It's not an OOM issue, Irrelevant, especially being DX11 with a 3-gig GTX780 and a 64-bit OS, (being a FlightSimulatorX nut, I monitor this like a hawk) and there's no mention in the Event Viewer - which was a surprise.
"if you notice one, without selecting it," - not possible, I'm afraid, Red - it's totally unexpected, with random timing - and maybe not at all for two - three days, then boom! one click on one of the houses and she's gone. It never happens on fields, orchards, barns, other houses, town hall, tailors, blacksmiths, fishing posts, traders, markets, churches, stockpiles, water-driven woodchoppers, and so on - only these superb little two-storied houses.
I think I'll abandon this particular (GREAT!) game (cheesh!), re-download the houses and start a new one with the fresh pkm.
Anyway - Mucho Nachos for the feedback, guys.
pj
Do you show any conflicts in your mod listing? I've had games crash out because of trying to utilize conflicting resources (the same food resource modified in two different mods). Houses contain food.

the zip can't open!
It sounds like nothing to do with the re-organization you did, but with the download itself. Try re-downloading the file to see if that helps. You may, by chance, have received a corrupted file during your last download.
after I try at my work to understand if the problem is my winzip

but dont spent on a winzip licence, go pickup free trial unlimited winrar
I love this mod...and highly recommend it.
Just wondering if I could ask if you could add some more colours at some point, eg Yellow and Dark Green. Mostly I would like my city to have as much different rooftop colour as possible.
Since I have no idea how to decompile a PKM file, I sadly cannot add them myself.
we cant decompile a pkm :)

indeed thought that the builders cut off before they build on it!

they will only cut where the red or green square will end, not the overlapping tiles cause technically, there is nothing there (it is reserved for the first floor^^)
First off: thank you for this wonderful mod!
If you would be so kind, and if you have the gumption:
I would love to see an update to this to have both stone and wood available, at least for the bottom building.
At which point, firewood consumption and fire hazard should be reverted back to standard wood/stone per building. If you have wood/wood fuel consumption will be that of 2 wood houses, stone bottom/wood top would give you that "in-between" you mentioned earlier.
Thanks again! You rock!
i need to google what mean 'gumption' first time ever i see that word ^^
about the stone version : they are kinda comming in here: http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?topic=766.msg12841#msg12841 (http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?topic=766.msg12841#msg12841)
i am using the exact same technic
I had a brilliant idea about your 2nd floor !!
being their 4x4 (I hope, if I remember correctly) I can build a market 12x12 putting exactly eight 2nd floor with under 8 individual stalls facing the way around !!
great! great !!
it will a great addiction at my suq!!

Sort of means 'inclination to do something', or in this case '... if you're willing to ...'
Salamander's got the gist and my meaning in western us slang. The true definition is used either for initiative and/or courage, (courage to take the initiative?) anyhow it was used more in the way of "if yer up to it".
After reading your linked thread, gumption you got, and loads. Thanks again.

I wanna start off by saying this is my most fave mod i have for banished. I was wondering if there is a way to turn the smoke off of these houses too? I have a mod downloaded that removes the smoke from chimneys ( it really helps keep my lag down when i start getting up in the Higher populations.) So i was wondering if its possible to keep this mod just smokeless? Or If that is even possible. Thank you for the awesome mod too btw :)
i can do a version without smoke if you want.
in wait, can you test something for me ?
i ve just got this message : can you verify this for me ?

Loading this mod seems to cause the "assign workers" window to crash the game (at least on my machine). All you have to do to reproduce is to load the mod on a brand new world and try to open the assign workers sub-window. Disabled all the rest of my mods to confirm that the behaviour seems to happen without any other mods.
not sure about what he means by " workers sub-window " but i think you ll should find :)
I would love a smoke free version if its easy and not very time consuming. I made a new game last night and i have like 10 hours on it already with your current mod installed. The "assign workers" window *farmers, stonecutters, That windows working just fine. I have not had it crash on my yet. And i had it on my old save with no issues. And that save had 1300+ people on it and it never crashed either.( only time it crashed was when my computer couldn't handle the lag ) I hope that helps. By the sub window i think they mean like the Fishing building where it shows how many people are working in the fishing industry and how many people are working at THAT fishing station. And i have not had any issues with those either.
isnt when you open the residence and see who lives there and click on the names or something ?
im not 100% sure. I am going to make a new game with just that mod and see if anything happends. But in all my time using it i have not had it crash at all. Will edit this if i can make the game crash.
*Edit
Built a few of the double houses. I have the game running at x10 speed. I opened all the houses, clicked on everyone living in the houses, I checked inventory. So far no issues. Are they still having issues with the mod too?
ok,
the 1st post of this topic contains the download, i replaced the file with a newer one.
in fact, this mod contain no smoke at all since a year, it is just the file on the forum was older than that ^^
if you redownload it you should not get smoke anymore :)
but keep in mind, maybe , it is possible you will have to destroy every 2nd floor and rebuild them, if you see old smoke.
alright , thanks you ALOT for the test, i will copy him your post. and see if he will reply back again :)
thanks alot for your time :)
and let me know if your new version w/o smoke is ok :)
It works Beautifully! Just replaced the old PKM and loaded up my save game. It warned about crashes. But it took the smoke out of ALL of my previously built homes. :) THANK YOU SO MUCH!!
you are welcome :)
I like this houses, since they solve housing problem, and they are not expensive at the begining. We need more like that definetly.
Thank you for these houses.
These are amazing
@RedKetchup - I am almost done with my resource and building mod and would love to try a house next. What files do you need to edit in order for a mod like this to work?
Absolutely gorgeous models!
