Sorry @Turis -  too much work and I like some freestanding houses.

To all of you: Don't get sad if I say no. You know this mod could easily be
way too big for it's own good. Now I am satisfied with the content
but it really needed a code/graphic remake. Maybe I can cut half the size
of the mod, I have 2-story left but it looks promising.

@TheOtherMicheal - I said I would come back to your wish for new textures.

There is actually nothing stopping it now. I have made new code and new textures
for the old ones (same but better).

Here I have a picture -
1. A slate roof that is maybe dull but easy to work with
2. A nicer roof but a nightmare to line up at the seams. It will not be good.
3. A plaster wall. Not too clean, not too dirty.
4. Example of what the beams would look like.

I will have to make an test example so you can see, but I think
you didn't mean red ceramic roof tiles and all white walls. :)

This goes for residential houses only.

I would like to hear opinions and suggestions...  8)

I vote for the slate roof. Simple and pretty.

TheOtherMicheal

My vote is for the slate roof.
The other roof style looks too fussy, I agree with The Pilgrim, the slate roof is simple and attractive.

A unified mass meets me after coffee. :)

OK. Slate roof. Some color on the house?
The plaster can be anything but not polka-dot.  ::)

Do the beams work or even lighter?

The Pilgrim

I would stay with the textures you picked for the plaster and the wood. They did use some pigments back then in plaster but it was by and large shades of gray, white and brown.

Pilgrim - once again we agree.
Here are those colors with a subdued door and window.
There can be many of those houses so very colorful would be disturbing.

elemental

That looks great.  :)  But what are those strange little marks in the middle of the bottom edge of each tile?

They are called slate roof fasteners -

These nails or whatever are realistic but maybe not so perfect in this case. And I would suggest to make the tiles smaller by 10 or 20%. The same with the wooden texture. Actually I'm not a friend of slate roofs. Looks very gloomy. Thatched and shingles are the best for your houses imo and if you want a third variant I would choose roof tiles from clay. A bit old and shabby in this case but friendly.

This wooden texture a bit darkened could work for the half-timbered parts.

I don't think they look gloomy at all. The slate is a good alternative to Kid's thatch and wooden shingles. The colour scheme in sample building shown above looks really good.

I had to change the roof anyway. It was too many mismatches at the edges.
Here's where I am right now. The doors need a little tweaking but else...  ?
