Post by: brads3 on February 20, 2020, 07:29:46 AM
since KID made the farmyards i started a new map. this will be a small, Genesis start, farming map.plan is to fill the whole map with no nomads.

added KID's settler deco,workshop with deco,block tiles,5x5 covers,and farmyards,added farmyard mod
moved KID portable mine higher in KID's group, went back to propertime with nordic climate,
on advice from @tuggistar ,moved the Crystal Cliffs between the new flora and pine mods, this patches the pine and RKEC without any crashes

mod count 128

Butterville,40659427, valley, small, mild nordic climate,no disasters,Genesis start   2 young couples with an 8 year old girl

even thou we have no seeds or livestock,we have many new options with the Farmyard mod. we set 2 5x5 yards,1 to make tools and clothing and 1 family to cut firewood. we'll have a variety of food, goats for milk, and chickens for eggs. it was a long trip here. horses pulled the wagon over hills and thru lots of mud along the way.

we settled near a pear tree and berry bush by a small stream. once the corn and oats were planted,we built 2 EB farm houses which lined up with our farmyards. a barn was built for the animals and a shed for the chickens.

The grass looks beautiful!  I never had grass like that.  What gets it like that?   What are those houses?  I thought I knew most all.

Edit:  I didn't read carefully. I see that you wrote they were EB farmhouses.

that is RED's fodder grass from the RKEC mod.those EB farmhouses hold 4 children to help grow the population quicker. they set super well with KID's wild west houses.

Brad, what is Crystal Cliffs?
Title: Re: BRAD'S SETTLING OF AMERICA SERIES 4:Butterville
Post by: brads3 on February 20, 2020, 04:59:41 PM
Crystal cliffs is a mod by Necora. has animal pens that require domestic animals to build. some reason this mod bridges or patches the pine mod and RKEC so they work together.http://worldofbanished.com/index.php?topic=1558.msg29338#msg29338

Aw, man! I love those pens. I already am too far into 5 villages now, though.  I have never loaded the Pine mod either.

Next time!

YEAR  2-4

this will take some time to get the bannies to multiply. each year we plan to do something to improve our small homesteads.  year 2, we cleared and fenced a pasture for the animals.we were tired of tripping over the workpile and decided to move it in year 3.lean to storage for firewood along the fence fence and a lean to beside 1 farmhouse will give space for any extra logs and thatch.

as Lora grew up,she helped gather firewood, herbs, and picked berries.she began to help in the garden more to increase the firewood output.to feed the animals thru the winters, we built a hay barn.

Granny the pasture has decorative grass from EB's irigation deco and KID's plant mods. i tried using Necora's block tiles to stop trees from growing and it dug out lots of RED's fodder grass.

It's all looking so nice, Brad!  I realized why nothing in my game looks as bright, and why EB Farmhouses in my game have a light gray colored roof instead of that nice light brown as in your pictures;  I have the resolution and shadow quality set on low because otherwise, my game runs very slow.   I put everything back on high, and it all looks much better.  I will build and play on low, then put it back on high during a pause to see the true beauty of everything.

It's good that Kid and EB made those grasses for decorative pastures.

I don't have the patience to wait so long for more Bannies as you do.

HaHa. yes it is slow. i am used to expanding and taking on nomads. been hard to find stuff to do each year. i try to think as the bannies and "what would they do?". some years we only cut trees and clear rocks.made sure to gather food early on so we were ahead.

my graphics are set at medium all the time.

YEAR 5-7

4 children have been born.the outputs from the farmyards is decent except firewood. we do need to gather branches that fall from the trees.we have collected herbs and some roots and onions.we have not hunted.

we made 2 picnic tables, a tiny chopper upgrades our firewod. Lora has talked us into restoring the covered wagon that we came here with. this will work as a townhall for NILLA's stats.

a house was built for Lora when she turned 15.the backyard was fenced. she grows herbs while she keeps watch on the children.

YEAR 8 and 9

we neede more grain to feed the animals. a field is cleared and planted in oats and corn. a rough mini shed will store the grain.we cut more trees  to expand the hay field and clear the rocks.

the wood cutter helps as a laborer along with the builder. they cut trees and help with the animals. we did gather food a few years. we do use more firewood than the farmyards cut. otherwise we don't need  anything. until the children grow up, there is no need to expand.

YEAR 10 REVIEW

population has more than doubled. the 2 EB houses have 4 children in each. the 2 farmyards produce over 900 food plus clothing ,tools, and some firewood.the 2 families are quite content. the animals are well fed.Lora keeps watch of the small children as she grows herbs. the 2 8yr old boys will soon be old enough to help more.

YEAR 10 and 11

the wood cutter continues cutting logs and firewood.the builder helps him. together they cut trees in the spring and summer. in the fall, the grain and hay is cut for the animals.firewood is chooped and stacked in the winter.they are always busy.Lora has the children help her pick berries and dig roots and onions from late summer on til the ground freezes..even without an official school, she teaches them survival skills.

even though Lora enjoys teaching the children during the day, she enjoys having the evenings to herself. she chose not to have any of the children move in with her. at 19,she has the largest house in the valley all to herself.

YEAR 12 and 13

as the bannies multiply,so do the animals. the goats are moved to a new barn and a 2nd coop built for the chickens.  the 10yr old boys will tend to the animals. they will milk the goats and harvest the grain and hay.this will give us more protein and increase the population.

the 2 boys dug a well and helped produce 150 more food than we ate.

with the mod adjustments, the fodder grass has not died off on this map. that is a nice change.

YEAR 14 and 15

now i have to make a decision. 2 girls are growing up but they will not move in with someone for a few more years.this will slow down the population growth as the EB houses are crowded with 4 children each. i had moved Lora as soon as she became a laborer ,but she has not had any babies. we will lose about 2 to 4 new borns by not moving anyone. since Lora chose to stay by herself, i won't force move the children.there is 1 builder, the wood cutter who helps as a laborer most of the year, and Lora who has hit the herb limit.1 of the girls will help with the gardens and the other will help as a laborer.

with these large houses, barns, and sheds,we have enough room. to use more of it for storage, KID's ghosted crates were placed under the wagon and some on the porches.this gives us an extra 1200 storage space. this gave us  room to store  flowers. the flowers spawn various berries with the RKEC mod. we picked the mulberries and raspberries and dug up the onions.then cut the flowers from the hay field.by weeding the hay field, we are hoping the fodder will grow better.

my hope of the fodder regrowing isn't working. guess i was wrong and seeing flowers not fodder. we will need to manage the hay field.the boys set up a wood cutter to cut their own firewood. this will work to cut lumber now and then. with the RKEC mod this hay field does yield a lot of berries.we have been careful not to cut the bushes.  the children pick them and they add to our food stocks,

YEAR 16 and 17

we are getting close to the clothing limit.the farm worker is sent to work at the fodder shed.2 work at the firewood yard and  the 2 boys still tend to the animals and pick apples.the hay was planted for a year, then the worker went to help with the chickens and goats.

in early winter,Lora moved Lillis in with her. her 12 year old sister moved into his house.he is 15 and Lora 24.finally, our 1st wedding.

after some discussion, we figured we needed a community storage barn. there are many sheds and crates that are being used, but this will keep things organized better.

Lora gave birth to a son, the same month her mom had a newborn son as well. two children grew up to help more. 1 helps with the children and gathering food from the hay field. the other helps as a laborer.

YEAR 18 and 19

there are enough bannies to keep an eye on the children so they won't get lost.now, we can build a bridge over the small stream. then we built a shed to store firewood and logs.

2 more children have grown up. 1 will expand the oat field and the other will gather honey from bees in the hay field. they will work part of the year as laborers.

with Lori and Kris pairing up we have our 2nd couple.finally the bannies are starting to grow up and move together.

YEAR 20 REVIEW

population 17,with 4 young children in 5 houses.our workforce has increased and we have 2 couples.the animals multiplied, and we have more milk and eggs.a 3rd farmyard gives apples and we expanded the oat and hay fields. we have plenty of food.

now that the bannies are pairing up, we should have a population boom and see some expansion.

YEAR 20 to 22

several years go by waiting for the children to grow up.we are content and continue to gather firewood and cut logs.we need population more than anything else.finally we have our 3rd couple. another will pair up in 2 years.2 more children will become helpers next year. we plan a forester to replant trees and supply our logs across the stream.

we increased our food and herb limits and doubled the size of our community barn.

YEAR 23 and 24

we build a cabin across the bridge for the next couple. sadly Dane died during child birth. Rilee moved into the cabin with Quin. our 1st death.
that won't help the population growth.

YEAR 25 and 26

now that we had our 1st death,we build a cemetary and a  parish church.Lora planted daffadils and dogwoods near by. she will tend to the grounds since we don't have a chaplain.

YEAR 27 to 29

as the next set of children become laborers,Rilee begins to gather food in the forest. a cottage is built for the next couple.Lora's daughter helps her with the children and gathering. together they collect herbs and food.Lora's husband collects honey from the hay field and helps with the animals.

the 2 boys and their wives tend to the goats and chickens. they also feed the oxen, donkeys, and horses.1 to the animal shed,1 picks apples from the farmyard,1 gathers food around the fodder hut,and 1 works the oat field half the year.the 2 founding couples work their farmyards, cut firewood, and mend tools and clothing. these bannies all work well together.

the beekeeper and extra oat field are worked til snow falls. then the workers help gather firewood and move supplies. now and then a worker cuts and plants at the fodder hut to maintain the hay field. it works out well that these houses can burn the hay since the horses won't eat it.it won't fill storage. the flowers spawn the berries for the combo gatherer. when we get low on firewood, more is chopped in the winter or early spring.

sadly,LORA died during child birth. she gave birth to 4 children.her husband tends to the fglowers and herbs. her 11 year old daughter,Malvia, watches the children and picks the barries. it is a hard loss for the many children she helped raise.

Here I will have a lot of time to sit at the computer because we have decided to isolate ourself and not go out unless it´s absolutely necessary. Just face the fact that if one of us get the virus, it´s probably lethal.  And since you can even order grocery online, you don´t need to go out much when you are retired and don´t work anymore.  But we´re fine. It will probably be boring but we will manage.

I even play some Banished, testing some nice new Nordic stuff. If you miss my blogs you can always look over to Tom´s page.;)

YEAR 36-38

WE have been good at repairing our tools and some were made from materials we had saved from the wagons that originally brought the 2 families here. we will need more and different  tools. we have not hunted, since we have no spears or arrows.we have no more wagon wheels. we did make 2 wobbly wheels for the trader's wheel barrow.we have also used lots of the stone up.to build more barns and houses we will need to dig a quarry.

after some discussion, we have a plan. not everyone agrees with it,some of the children have plans where they want to build houses. south of the trade post is a mountain.hopefully we can find some good minerals in it.we have some iron and copper ores. we need a way to smelt the ores and form tools. locating it between the mountain and river makes sence. if there is a fire,we can put it out with the river nearby.

a DS hearth will make copper tools by smelting copper ore. we also took time to dig a random RK mine. as females become 15 years old,we build more houses. sometimes, a young 10 year old male will move in instead.

we assign a cleric to the parish church.  we scavenged more copper ore for the DS hearth. we send 2 workers to the random quarry for more ore. we need to upgrade to a RK blacksmith to make more tools.this will allow us to make iron and a variety of tools.

YEAR 44 to 46

WE trade flowers for wheat. the merchant says he and the other merchants like nut bread to eat as the travel between settlements.since it doesn't need to be cooked, the bread is a handy food to have.REGG will stock 500 of the nutbread for the merchants.we also trtade for veggy seeds.

most of the houses have pairs again.we have 2 students.

i'll point out some things with this mopd setup. with KID's farmyards, some might think they are a cheat. i haven't overused them at all.the amount of firewood by the 1 is not enough to support the bannies. even in the early years, we had to cut extra firewood to supply the  houses. to balance the food outputs, the 2 combo gatherers show low outputs. the hay<flowers and thatch> spawns fruit. we have several types of berries that are collected even thou they might not show up in the gatherer window. so what might be higher outputs are offset by other workplaces that have lower outputs. between them, we are producing the same amount of food as we use. these houses will burn thatch  so it doesn't just stockpile. the trade post does stock flowers that can be traded for food. the beekeeper and oat field, that is taken from KID's greenhouse mod, are not worked all year. they are disabled in the fall til spring.

1 bad point to this order is the trading. with so many different items ,we don't get a consistant supply of seeds. the merchants do have a tendancy to bring odd goods more than needed items. without iron, these bannies couldn't build RED's farm trade post. i wanted the option of getting both seed and livestock, so didn't use KID's specified traders.

YEAR 47 to 49

we trade for root seeds,  tomatoes and a few copper tools. that emptied the trading post.our oldest settler,Losson ,passed away.she was 71 years old. everyone is so busy,we have 1 laborer and 1 builder to help move supplies. not much can be done. we do collect minerals and food. the population has grown enough that we need as much as we produce or make. we have more children than adults ,not counting the 11 students.

a merchant did trade us some hardened tools for apple cider.

YEAR 50 REVIEW

population 77,33 adults,11 students, and 33 children. 12% educated in 16 houses. we make our own clothing and tools. the RK blacksmith can  smelt iron ore into iron and gives us more tool options. we traded for veggy and root seeds as well as some supplies.we had 2 deaths during the last decade.

not as much gain as i wanted.only built 4 houses. with the young help being in school, the bannies make and produce as much as they need. as the students start to graduate,we need to start another farm or 2. we'll need to plant the new seeds. we want to breed some of our decorative livestock and improve our trading. yes the decorations can be bred.

Nice, nice.

How are you, Brad? And how is life in the US? We hear it´s pretty bad, especially in some cities.  hop it´s calmer where you are. Take care of yourself.

hi,calm here for the most part. told to stay home other than for food. i was out a week ago and 2 or 3 weeks before that. i did have masks and some gear. been good at staying away from people.
i live in a small city not the major 1's. would much prefer to be out in a rural area where i could grow food. hard to find a good place now ,everything is just stuck. there are cases near but only a few.they do go up every few days.

i saw this coming for 3months when it started in CHINA. have watched as it jumped around Europe and tok down ITALY. i use a website that has people from all over the world,so it is real good for information. the governments have been behind over a month all the way. what they figure out now ,we did at least a month ago or more. i know too much that weighs on me. this virus ain't good at all,the death rates are higher than we are told, the effects of it worse. the economy hjas gone off a cliff, doubt it can come back for any of our countries. not to scare you,but i do think we need to prepare to survive without help from the governments. think we all need a Banished type farm.

the girl-friend and I tried to warn family but they listened to the government and thought it was just the FLU. even now they think life can return to normal.  sorry if this is long,i am trying to pick my words.

what will come will  come but i hope it delays til warmer weather. i think this country will see troubles by may.word i get is your area will within weeks. the #'s will grow higher and faster now.

how are you holding up? how is your daughter? is she  in Australia?

Here it´s alright, boring but alright. We stay at home, still in our flat. As you may know, we have this remote house you wish for yourself. The only problem is, it´s far away, also from our son, that can help us with different matters, like bringing food and medicines. But we will see, I´ve talked to the neighbour and the town, as well as the church, has organized that food is brought at home to "risk persons." So maybe we will move back there now in spring, as we´ve planned for all the time.

Yes, the daughter is still in Australia, in a suburb from Melbourn. I don´t think it´s very bad there (yet). But they too keep mostly to themself, both she and her boyfriend can work a lot from home.

masks, goggles, and gloves and avoid people is all we can do. good if you can have supply delivered. i don't think my tiny rowboat will get me across the pond. i do wonder how long before we see more shortages of food and medicines. when you can i do say add some extra supplies for  safe keeping. this is far from a normal virus.

YEAR 50 to 52

we lost another founding father.Hobert has died of old age. he joins his wife in the cemetary. a couple has moved into the original EB house.
a merchant stopped by for more nutbread. he gave us some rasberries and some ruff wooden tools.

finally in year 52 ,we have a couple that graduate with no deaths. we can build a RK country house and plant the veggy seeds.the house has a pantry to store food. a garden shed and sorting station give a place to sort the veggies.

that is North snow. climate is with a nordic climate mod. so mild is actually closer to where i live. it works out to be harsher than a typical medium climate. it does make my growing season shorter. you might get snow on a normal mild now and then.

YEAR 53 and 54

we are at the edge of a population boom.we also need many things-food,tools,and logs. some limits are raised.we decide to extend the forest and add a hunter.hopefully, a good veggy harvest will increase the food enough. since we don't have a bridge an RK hunting tower will work between the 2 mini forests.our school is full so a forest school is needed also.

the field produced 600 veggy's that need to be sorted into peppers, squash, cabbage, and pumpkins.a merchant traded us 50 rough tools.

sadly the lady of the new cabin died during childbirth.

YEAR 55 and 56

to increase the usefulness of the decorative animals,we'll need corn.the decorative field is worked. a 6x4 garden shed from KID's bakery garden mod is set under the oat field and corn replces the oat. these 2 garden sheds are micro-managed and disabled during the winter.this way we'll have corn to feed animals without taking away from the food reserves. NECORA's oats and RED's are different so we had to use corn for the stable barn.

some of our horses are moved to Necora's horse stable. the horses eat grain and multiply procducing domestic animals.

a second veggy field is planted. we built our 20th house.we finished the stable storage loft above the stables.this will increase our storage.
we trade for strawberry seed and 200 tomatoes.

note- oats would have worked if i had used the CC stable mod above the RKEC.

YEAR 57

we trade for 10 hardened tools. we do need to increase tool supply soon.while the builder works on fencing the new horse pasture,a mine needs dug and materials moved for houses. we are graduating students finally. KID's RKEC mine is dug. it will supply ores for the blacksmiths.we have 6 miners between the 2 mines.the new mine gives us copper for tools and the RK blacksmith can smelt some iron.we completed 2 more houses.

YEAR 58 and 59

now that we have 50 working adults, we decide to build a townhall. we upgrade to a windmill since the water mill won't grind oats.we increase to 10 miners.2 more houses are completed.we traded for potato seed but it emptied the trade post.

by year 59,we realize we need to make several adjustments to increase supplies faster. we need tools, are tight on food and firewood, and need to improve our trading as well.

a mini workshop will make leather coats. we plow another field and build 2 more RK country houses. an apple tree will give us more food and same beeswax.

a merchant sold us 150 iron ore.  everyone works hard and we have made some improvements.

YEAR 60 REVIEW

population 115, 58 adults,17 students,and40 children in 26 houses.little less than half educated. we have a townhall and a forest school was built. our mining has been expanded but we do struggle to find enough ores for tools. the new horse stable and pasture allow us to breed the horses. even with 2 deaths, population has grown by over 50%.

the speed has picked up.it is a steady growth.  the bannies have worked well together and been busy.hopefully we can avoid any more shortages. we need to improve trading. we do have some precious minerals and coal from the mines.

over the next 10 years,we will need another forest for more logs and hunting.we would like to get some pigs or beef cows.we still need a grain seed for larger fields.

YEAR 61

we need another ploppable mine to increase our tool outputs.1 will dig iron ore and 1 copper ore. the mini workshop is switched to rough tools to help make tools to dig the mine shaft. to help the woodcutters,we expanded the old market by adding a cart to haul logs.

we plowed another crop field and built our 30th house. even so,we need more. the pace has increased considerably.we even needed 2 builders.

YEAR 62

we have grown enough to need a new school. our town center is expanded.

work begins on plantation farms to the south. grapes are being planted.2 fields are plowed.the main house and 1 worker house are completed.

we traded for grape seeds.     we still struggle to make tools.a 2nd worker is sent to the RK blacksmith.

YEAR 63

we need to overcome this tool shortage.we had enough for most of last year. did we misplace them during the winter? we dig another mine,  a KID's tiny mine. this will dig iron. we will need a 2nd blacksmith shop to make better tools.

       trades were 1000 eggs,3 chickens,and tomato seed.

time to clear a chicken run, took time away from building houses. we overcame the tool shortage. everything else is close to break even.

YEAR 64 and 65

we clear land for the 2nd RK blacksmith. 2 pairs of miners move closer to the tiny mine.  construction of the smith waits for iron ore.

the plantation farm added a gathering hut for the grapes.a strawberry field was planted near the chicken run.

the new blacksmith will make steel tools. a miner moves from the RK random mine to being the blacksmith. a 2nd furrier hut is built near the forest to make pelt clothing.hopefully,we should see progress soon.

we have another childbirth death.we traded for 2000 food and 40 hide coats and wheat seed.

YEAR 66

before we can plant the wheat,we need more logs. a tiny forest is planned in a canyon to the north. a gathering hut and hunter will work there as well. the workers will stay in 2 CC cabins.

we trade for 125 venison roasts.

we tried to help the grapes by cutting logs out. was a tuff year but we survived.our founding bannies have all past away from old age.

i do think we have a mod issue. RED's orchard forests are affected by the setup for the pine mod. can be fixed by adding the CC orchard forest mod. for now we aren't getting grapes which is slowing our food production.

YEAR 67

the plantation plows 2 wheat fields. a storage barn is built.we are so tight on workers, we had to wait for a graduate  to become the builder.we did recover from the tool shortage. enough so 1 RK blacksmith makes iron and has dropped back to 1 worker.clothing and food show improvement. the bannies worked hard and feneced a new pasture. a wood cutter at the plantation should bring our firewood up and help overcome that shortage.

we took in 400 sugar cookies.

YEAR 68 and 69

we are concerned with our food poduction. our builder has gone fishing.more fields will be cleared and plowed but we need workers.

we took in 1050 squash and 485 oats.we could not avoid starvation. 12 bannies have died.we even tried manually harvesting the grape orchard.
it got so bad we had to send the cleric to help the farms.still deaths continued. the brewer from the Swan tavern became a hunter.another 164 in food was brought with our trading post. it took all the goods that were stocked.

1 issue with so many mods is the trade post never gets stocked well enough. usually i build 2 of them to compensate for the slow stocking. with so many items, ones that we do have and that are of more value are stocked after other items in the list. this slows down our trading.

half way thru the 69th year, the deaths are too much . we have cut into the workforce so far there is no chance at recovering.i'll stop this map. did not get as many farms as i wanted.  there is much of the map not covered.

SUMARY

the new farmyards work well. KID's new mod improves the look and functions of the many farms that get built on the maps. the farms have come a ways over the years. no longer are they just a huge crop field. we can even feed livestock and trade those or use them to gain more supplies. there is even a dairy barn that you can feed grain and get milk from.

there are a few mod order changes needed. i forgot to add the CC stable barn that helps Necora's animal pens use RED's oats. i also need to add the CC orchard forrests since RED's fail with the pine mod.
