Title: 9th Wonder: Machu Picchu
Post by: RedKetchup on February 03, 2026, 12:29:30 AM
I started my 9th wonder: Machu Picchu :)

i am gonna use it as a boarding house :) maybe like 80 families :)
Gonna be useful when accepting 200-500 nomads and dont have to make tons of housing asap ^^
they gonna go live there in wait to be fully integrated :)

Just let you know the exterior walls are rough made for the moment, gonna work them and even maybe modify my texture, too much repetitive, the stones are too small.
I didnt found a very good Seamless Mayan Wall Texture yet.

and i am gonna make sure the citizens go up and follow the path, the stairs. It will be awesome to check them deal with it hehe ^^
Inside, in middle, there will be different  layers of floors with stairs. Kinda as terraces as it should be. (This is why you see different little houses at different height.)

yeah probably. will depend on how it looks on grass area. i know i need to put some mountains around in the model itself. It is not just walls down to the ground and more we go behind the model, more high will be the mountains. For the moment, i did put walls down to level 0 because it helps me to figure out.
Parts of the walls will be hidden/deleted when hiding behind mountains.

But i cannot take 3-4 tiles all around neither to add mountains.
Mountains will start each side of the first stairs, and go higher till i reach the back of the model.
Will see, probably.

maybe also , maybe i will redo the little houses, i feel they arent big enough but it would also mean to put less many :S
The roofs are in thatch, and if they don't look satisfying... i will maybe put huts like in River's hut ^^ (or like in RKEC: Evolution ^^ )
will see that too.

it is just the 1st preview :)

Once my 2 green blocks in the picture is turned into a building (some kind of main hall of the place)... i will be able to see it in game so i can make the finition of ALL pieces :)

Well after seeing it yesterday in game, and spent a lot of time to try to ask bannies to follow a specific path ....

I wasnt satisfied at all with my stone texture. so today, i tried to get better for this project...

I think this one will be ok :) of course, i need to set precisely the texture on each pieces so they imbrick themself each other and also keep the proportions on each side....

What you guys think ?
Unfortunatly, it is not a seamless texture (seamless = smooth and continuous, with no apparent gaps or spaces between one part and the next.) but i can try to still make them fit.

Well !

we have a problem

the original boarding house has 5 families with 5 occuants each...

so...
i did set and did plan for 80 families : crash :(
i tried 40 families : crash :(
i tried 20 families : crash :(
i tried 16 families : crash :(
....

the problem seems an UI problem. i checked the occupants and it seems to have 40 citizen slots, if there is a 41th => crash

even 10 families , if they are 5 each, thats 50 and maybe it can lead to a crash if ALL the families are 5 cause it gives us 50 occupants.

i need to find a way to fix the UI/game limitation lol

i think i fixed it enough for 40 families allowing a max of 220 citizen slots :)
(40 families of 5 = 200 and we never know if some families of 6 gonna go live there)

Machu Picchu v1.0 by Red Ketchup.

Desc.: Machu Picchu:  Often referred to as the "Lost City of the Incas", Machu Picchu is one of the most iconic symbols of the Inca civilization and a major archaeological site in the Americas. Built around 1450, it is believed to have served as an estate for the Inca emperor Pachacuti, though no contemporary written records exist to confirm this. The site was abandoned roughly a century later, likely during the Spanish conquest.

Comment: Machu Picchu, This is my 9th Wonder made for Banished. My model is a miniature of this legendary city, adapted for Banished. I gave this wonder the purpose to be a boarding house, allowing up to 40 families of 5 each.

Role: Boarding House.
Dimensions: 17x 18 tiles.
Building cost: 600 work units, 52 logs, 245 stones.
Feature: Happiness Goods.
Radius: 50 tiles.
Residence: 40 families of 5 (a max of 200 citizens if the all have 3 children).
heat: 80 heat per resource.

Can be place against a mountain or not, model is enough good to not be hugging a mountain :)

Also on Steam Workshop.
