Hello,

we discovered Banished as a new and probably very important game in our family  :home  :thumbsup .
In the meantime I have installed all important mods, most of the known technical and gameplay mods, some graphics mods like Old Town or Colonial Houses.

On thing quite difficult to setup is the aging, but I think with the existing mods this will be fine. But with the aging mods appears already a bit my question. There are 1:1 and 5:1 mods. But: when I search for game speed in Banished, I then found (really to my surprise) that most players play in acceleration mode. We played Stardew Valley, Caesar, Anno always in real time mode, as we just enjoy looking at the town.

Is the 10x speed mode something you actually / automatically want to play if you are more experienced?
And is this only good with the 5x, 10x speed for the vanilla game, or also for CC or smaller mods (with only some more ressources)?

I wonder a bit as on the one hand most people play at 10x speed, on the other hand many want to play a 1:1 aging mod. Of course you can also play the 1:1 mod at 10x speed, I just don't understand the relation.

If we really always want to play at 1x speed, what should we do so that we will always like it at 1x speed in the future?

Hi. Short answer
I play at 10x when waiting for things to build or crops to grow.
I also like the 1x speed and I have a 1:1 aging mod. It is nice
and slow. Maybe too slow for some...

Each to his own. :)

Hi @littbarski, welcome to site.

The game speed and aging speed are 2 different things.  Regarding aging, vanilla aging is a lot faster, children reach adulthood in less seasons of play. I use a special-made One Year is One Year aging mod because I write stories.  In 10 years a newborn will be 10 years old.  It works well for me but does slow the game as far as getting new workers and new couples and more children.

Regarding the game speed, because of my game style and storytelling, I often have things, especially deco items, placed on the map at the very beginning.  I always start at speed 1x and I pause often. It sometimes takes a while just to get the map started.  ;D  I most often play at speed 1x until the starting families are housed and have workplaces.  Most of the rest of the map is played at speed 2x.  Sometimes back to 1x if developing a certain new area of the map.

Only if I am test a certain something for Kid on a test map, do I ever use 5x speed.  I never use x10.

Play at your own speed.  :)  Have fun  :)

thank you both. Nice to get your experienced opinions.
I had searched a bit and then found the mentioned answers, and especially this poll:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Banished/comments/l0u84i/what_speed_do_you_play_on_most_often/

Then I thought of course, what is wrong with the game when everybody plays it at 10x speed.
I would never have considered faster game speed in Caesar 1-3 for example, I always had a lot to do and was happy that I had the time for it.

I have to admit that I just can test it myself, and this is true. But after that poll I really thought for a second if Banished is perhaps needing the player to play at 5x or 10x speed because from the game structure itself there would be always many "months" of waiting. I saw that many of the players that said they use 10x, then added they would pause the game. Ok, you pause as well Abandoned ;), but for me playing at 10x and then only build or trade or manage at a paused game, this does not sound like a game that Banished is meant to be (=survival in real conditions and real time).

But I am really glad that you two also think that it can be fun at 1x speed.
(indeed the 1:1 va. 5:1 aging is of course just another topic)

I just played a bit in higher speeds and noticed that the rivers are not flowing faster, but the snow and rain do. And of course the people are running like crazy at 10x. I am just somebody who enjoys also the visual impression and feeling of such a game, and for me, if I would do modding (unfortunately I am far away from being able to do it), I would imagine a mod that speeds up relevant building tasks, but not the environment. So the building of a house or the crop field growing would be at 10x but the people and rain and mainly animals and trees would just look normal. So not like a 10x game speed but only 10x building and growing speed, so to speak a differentiation between the game mechanics and the UI and graphics. (sorry, this was written a bit too complicated)

PS: ok when I searched a bit more then I find more, like this:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Banished/comments/aohzie/does_anyone_else_play_vanilla_with_1x_speed/

And as you also seem to not have to play in 10x, I think the 1x could work great.
But many seem to prefer 2x speed, and actually I can imagine that. Only, the persons and animals are just a bit too fast for my relaxed feeling. As others mentioned, an option of 1.5x speed could be the best for me, too. Probably no chance to set the 1x speed to 1.5x in a mod? (by myself...?)

i'm late to this party. srry, i don't check in every day.
you say "we" so i assume you mean a family of a few people. with that you will have different likes and ideas. this will propblably in time mean they prefer different mods or scenarios. with the mod manager that can be done fairly easily nowadays. be sure to check that out.

1 thing i recommend for new players diving into the mod pool is to 1st make a list of what you want in the game. as you and the others play with the original version, you most likely had ideas of things you thought wedre missing  or would like to change. it helps to make a list on paper. otherwise you can be overwhlemed by all the mod options.

the 1:1 age mod has many options. click the chanhe log for a list of those-
https://banishedinfo.com/mods/view/27-one-year-is-one-year-Update-26-17091434#changelog

game speed is affected by the mods and your computers ability. it does vary and what a 3x looks like to 1 player with their system can be different to another. the graphics can make a huge difference, even the graphic differences in the trees from the mods. this also will apply to scrolling over the screen/map. scrolling over a lake is faster.

i used to play at 10x but the game was more of a 3x rate compared to others and looked slow compared to some videos i have seen. since doing some upgrades to my computer, i play at 3x but do pause a lot. i pause in speing and layout building projects for the year, and i pause to reset trade posts stocksdepending on supplies i have.

thank you very much, interesting. Here a screenshots with the mods. Actually we will play on different PCs (three or four).

Any hint about the mods, or suggestions? As you can see, most of them are technical, and perhaps we will disable some if they make the game too easy, but the age of the players is also different :).

I only have two larger mods, the Old Town and the Colonial Houses (the one directly on the main menu). Should we first try without them, with one of them or are both ok?
