After 5 years in early access on steam, Foundation is finally being released on the 31st January 2025,  have owned the game for a couple of years and according to steam have only played it for about 5 hours in total ... not cos I couldn't see the promise in it but my computer couldn't cope with it and there were tons of bugs in it back in the early days.

Have finally replaced the computer and been playing around with the demo version they released at the beginning of the month ... has got a very banished feel to it, have posted a few of the menus available in it over here

https://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/763540-foundation/

One of menu options is right at the beginning of the game when you set up a new village and you can switch off all the building costs, etc ... unfortunately disabled in the demo, also disabled is the day, dusk, night and weather menu.

It's also got a number of mods available in steam, but again disabled in demo.

There are some cool animations if you have a wheat farm and also a windmill to turn the wheat into flour, when enough wheat gets to the windmill then it starts to turn the blades, also really like the fishing setup in any of the lakes there are random schools of fishes jumping out of the water, etc and once you setup a fishing building the little man (or woman) goes out in their little boat to where the fish are to catch them.

Some of the buildings are realy fiddly to set up like the churches as there are about four parts to a church, you start off with the main building and it's best to pause it so you can see the little white circles that show you where to connect the steeples, doors, extensions, etc ... its great when sticking all the bits together work and the building is complete cos the church bells start to peal and all the little villagers head into church.

Seem's I've owned this game forever too! Glad to see the full version coming out finally! This and Ostriv I've really enjoyed. There's only one person working on Ostriv like Banished.

Abandoned

Looks interesting but a bit more complicated than Banished. Thanks for posting.

It doesn't take long to get used to all the menus, etc

Haven't really been sticking to a single village as have just been playing around with the demo, but here's one of my villages .... posted picture to the gallery

Anyway if you can see it the main village is at the beginning of the lake, behind the trees at the back is a farmhouse which is growing wheat for the windmill ... much further back have set up a little industrial area which has logging building, building making planks, another one is creating stones and there is also a forester back there who is planting trees, I made the mistake of telling the forester they could plant trees in one of my villages and before I knew where I was the entire village had disappeared under 100s of trees the only way I knew where the village was just above the treeline I could still see the church steeple  :))

Back again, not sure if this effects other people but in the demo I need to go to the systems menu (top right-hand corner of screen) and switch off something called onboarding to see all the menus.

So playing around with another village, I did start another village before this one as I wanted to build a village on a island in a lake ... all built up ready to expand to the other side of the lake which is when I found the demo has all the bridges disabled very annoying, anyway this is the village am currently building

The greyed out buildings are because I have run out of money and am hoping a trader is going to turn up and buy something from me

Unlike banished if you don't like where you have stuck something you can just hit the edit button and move something or edit the building if you want to add a more things ie a chimney

Tavern in daylight having adding lantern, walls, seat, tree and well

Tavern at night having moved the tree and added a chimney to the building

Finally stopped playing around with all the settings and have started building the village of Ravensford

And have started adding farms, so far sheep, diary cows and wheat ... been adding fences around them and also removed some of the forest in the sheep and cow fields, but left enough for the animals to still have shelter and also adding some wells

catty-cb

Have now added in a watchpost so now have soldiers patrolling the streets, keeping the villagers safe ... the purple circles only show up if you have clicked on the watchpost so you can see where the soldiers are in the village .. still have to build a castle

The village continues to expand

angainor88

Oh wow, so much stuff has been added since I last played! Your village looks so good

It's like playing a whole different game since it's left early access ... but any banished player is going to find it's got a very banished feel to it ... still trying to decide if I'm going to build a castle or a monastery/nunnery next ... if I go for a monastery then I'll be able to add herbs and vegetable fields

Some progress snapshots

Village of Ravensford

Town of Ravensford

City of Ravensford

Have now become a Hermitage - And started building on the other side of the river

And now the odd horse and rider are turning up

Its been a few weeks since I played foundation as they have now added in modding to the game .... and I wanted to give the modders time to start creating mods

Once you add in the mods you want to have, you go to your village map and shift the mods from the left hand (disabled) side of the screen to the right hand (activated) side

Information on the modding side of the game

Seem to have quite a bit a detail in their modding documents on how to create mods

Am still a Hermitage
